[Apollo looks... a little flustered? Slightly bewildered? Like he might have accidentally exploded cooking supplies?]

I'm trying this cooking thing. I'm pretty sure it's not dangerous to eat, but does anyone want to come and be a guinea pig? These gel things are making roasts a lot fucking harder than they should be...

Action

[On the Bishop, Apollo has taken over the kitchen for now. He manages to look surprisingly domestic, bumming around in ship standard provided clothing and hair pulled up into a ponytail that bobs along to whatever music he's imagining as he 'cooks'.

Cooking occasionally involves eye lasers. Which doesn't work on the gels half as well as he hoped it would.]

_{[ The smell of buttermilk begins to fill the room, Kirk turning his
head to watch the batter. He can tell the other is merely humoring him, and
he can take guesses as to why if what Apollo had told him at the party was
true. Even so... ]}

This might be forward, considering we haven't known each other long - but I trust you.

_{[ The spatula scraped along the pan as he flipped the cake, smiling at
the golden brown color. ]}

You have any juice or milk to go with these?

... thank you. But I'm not sure I trust myself.

[He's never been close to a human, only post humans.]

I have milk, hang on.

[He heads to the fridge to dig into it.]

Well, you just hugged me without crushing me. So I'd say you're off to a good start.

_{[ He grinned at him, flipping the first pancake off the pan and onto a
nearby waiting plate, pouring the next while Apollo got out the milk.
]}

To bad we don't have any sausage or bacon to go with this.

There's a big difference between a comforting hug and losing your head in the heat of the moment.

Ah. Yeah, that I can't help with. Meat supplies seem to be in pretty short supply.

Unfortunately. But that's fine. Pancakes can stand on their own. Sausage and bacon are just decoration - like those flowers on cakes.

Just a few more minutes and we can eat.

Sugar flowers? Jenny wanted an entire plate of those for her birthday cake when she was five.

It smells good, anyway.

I will forgive her because she was five.

_{[ He grins at the compliment. ]}

_{[ He held up a plate to Apollo, chest puffed slightly with pride.

[Apollo takes the plate with a grin, using a fork to break some off and trying it.]

Mm. That's pretty darn good, yeah.

_{[ He watches him, like a cook awaiting a verdict from the critic...
which... was what he was, actually. ]}

Well, I've only been making them since I was twelve - but thank you. It's always nice to have my cooking appreciated.

Yeah, but you're what? Thirty, maybe?

[He forks off more and eats it. Really is tasty.]

Hah, close. I'm twenty-seven.

_{[ He turns back to make himself a few, but is clearly pleased as he
sneaks peeks of Apollo eating his pancakes. ]}

Make me feel like I'm robbing the cradle, why don't'cha?

[Apollo has no idea how old is actually is but, optimistically, he's twelve years older than Jim. Realistically, it's probably closer to twenty. No matter that he's forever going to look like he's in his late twenties/early thirties.]

I wouldn't feel to bad. I like older men as it turns out.

_{[ Which was the truth. He liked just about anyone, really, but he did
like it when he was with more 'experienced' men so to speak. ]}

Besides, you can't be that much older than me, can you? I know you have silver hair and all, but I don't think that's a real indication of your age, am I right?

Hard to say. If I was forty when I was turned into Apollo, that'd make me fifty two now.

[He shoved another mouthful of food down, chewing it thoughtfully.]

Could be as young as... thirty seven, I guess. In theory. But it's pretty unlikely. And yeah, the hair is no indication. I was just made with it. Catches my halo nicely.

_{[ He laughed at that, laying a fresh pancake onto his plate just
because. ]}

Well, if it's 'in theory' then you can be as old as you want to be, couldn't you?

I suppose so. I have twelve years of memories.

[Apollo finishes the one he has, grins and starts on the fresh, hot one.]

Age is just a number, right?

_{[ He chuckled, pouring the last of the batter as he munched on a naked
pancake. Even without syrup they were delicious! ]}

A measurement of the passing of time by Earth's rotation of the sun. Which is sort of 'just a number'.

[Apollo turned up a small jug of berry-ish gel and dunked a pancake in it, humming softly.]

Not bad with this, either.

_{[ He almost declared that blasphemy, but why ruin the moment? ]}

Well they were already perfect before, anything else added just increases the perfection.

_{[ He turned off the pan and set the mixing bowl in the sink before
grabbing his own and going to sit at the table. ]}

Clearly so.

[Apollo breaks off a piece with the sweet gel and offers it out on his fork to Jim.]

_{[ Kirk looks at it and smiles, biting his lip briefly before leaning
over and taking the bite straight off the fork. ]}

Hmm, not bad. What's that stuff again?

[That is exactly what Apollo intended, yes.]

It's labelled 'gel food substitute, flavor: mixed berry'.

_{[ He laughed softly and wiped the corner of his mouth with his thumb
before licking the digit. ]}

Next time, just tell me a sweet lie and say it's jam.

It's jam.

[Said completely deadpanned.]

_{[ He rolled his eyes, but laughed around a soft smile, cutting into a
piece of his own pancakes with melted butter and a bit of syrup, holding it
up to Apollo this time. ]}

I think it's actual butter, even.
