Hey! Soooooo since we're all stuck here, and going outside on this planet kinda sucks bigtime right now, I've been making it a project of mine to try and learn as much as I can about the different cultures of the other worlds people here are from! Particularly Earth, because there's so many of you! Someone told me the collective noun is "Earthlings"? Anyway.

I've been trawling through the media library, but to be honest, I'm not very good at sitting and reading for long periods of time. So I figured, why not just ask you guys instead?

Tell me one (or more!) thing about your home world that you think is culturally significant. It can be traditional, religious, social, or pop culture is fair game too! After all, it's no fun when people are making pop culture references that fly over my head.

The only rule is that you can't say the same thing as someone else. You ready? Go!

Sure! Is there any rock music here from your time in the media library? There's so much in there, I haven't even listened to two percent of it. I don't even know where to start. Aaaand some of it's pretty weird.

If The Beatles aren't in there, I'd be very, very surprised. They were something of a phenomena when they began getting popular in America. I don't listen to a lot of music, but - they're pretty good. Uh - The Who is another band I know of. The Rolling Stones.

[he is pushing the limits of his pop culture knowledge, here] It isn't rock music, but anything out of Motown is also really good. Motown is - the record label, but picking a group or a singer from there is difficult because they're all extremely talented.

Ohhhh. Hang on. I'll see what I can pull up.

[Ahsoka accesses the media library through her data pad, flips through the music for a moment. When she gets to the Beatles discography, she puts the playlist on shuffle and starts it up. ... Then, irritatingly, she starts flicking through tracks after a few bars of each.]

Huh. They're kinda down-beat for a rock band, aren't they? [#kidsthesedays]

Down-beat? Really? [okay, he's laughing a little]

[Ahsoka flicks to The Rolling Stones, hits on (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.]

Now this beat is a little more like it! Though the lyrics are a little...

They are a little - ah, strange.

[Ahsoka lets that one play through, then clicks on "Related Suggestions," pulls up Another One Bites the Dust. A little bit after Hank's time, but she's not to know that...]

Oh! I like this! Do you know this one? This actually sounds kinda like something I might hear back home...

[he tilts his head, frowning as he listens to the song]

No - they don't sound familiar. What year is that from?

Hmmm. Datapad says... 1980? Whatever that means.

I could totally take out a battalion of tinnies to this. [She makes small sweeping motions with her arms in time to the music, like she's swinging her lightsabers.] Another one bites the dust.

Seven years after me. But it is pretty catchy.

Droids. The favoured weapon of the Separatists back home. "Tinnies" as in, "tin cans."

Turns out, once you give robots their own AI, they're totally capable of engaging in trash-talk.

Droids - androids? Robots?

[okay no he's familiar with robots. Death robots. One tried to kill him] Who thought it was a good idea to give them AI?

Oh, droids have had AI in them for several thousand years. It was only recently they started being mass-produced for war.

Not all droids are bad-- I had an R7 unit that helped me with my fighter. If I got knocked out by an enemy pilot, it can exercise it's own judgement to take over pilot controls and look for the nearest safe landing without my needing to be conscious to tell it to.

Ah - okay, that's a good use of - robots and AIs. Sorry, I have bad experiences with robots.

Bad experiences? How so?

Er. A giant robot tried to kill me?

[resnipstance]

Oh, is that all? [Look, Ahsoka faces battalions of robots trying to kill her every day. They've kind of lost their effect.]

I mean-- I guess that must be pretty scary for a civilian, but they're really not that hard to kill. You just have to know where to aim.

[he can't help but huff a little, but he's smiling] "That's all?" she says . . .

Robots aren't - common where I'm from. Especially ones like those.

I guess it's harder if you don't have a lightsaber, too.

I'm - going to say yes. What's a lightsaber?

[resnipstance]

Hmmm. [Ahsoka considers him for a moment. She isn't really certain about the different levels of technology on Earth-- when certain things were invented, and so forth. She wants to make comparisons to help explain it, but she doesn't want to be too condescending either.]

Do you have lasers yet?

[She's talked to some people from Earth who don't. It's a viable question.]
