[Vash has spent much of his time since the planet came in range investigating the equipment that had malfunctioned in the terra-forming process. Finding much of it different from what the Plants used in their terraforming, but some of it also being the same.

It was a little eerie. How close his own planet could be to destruction if the Plants give out.

How close it was. To happening if his brother had his way.

Find Vash out wandering the woods checking out how nature is adapting (or not). Or find him tinkering carefully with the broken equipment.

At some point he takes out his communicator when he tires of hitting dead ends in his tinkering.]

I'm just curious. What does the fleet feel about what has happened to this planet? It's awful what happened to the equipment and the air, but was it something that should have been tried in the first place? The terra-forming I mean. Should the planet have been left in piece or was it okay to try to change it in order for people to live?

Mm... I haven't learned why they tried to terraform this moon in the first place. I think my answer would depend on that. So... do you know?

To be honest? I'm not entirely sure. It may have been a need to expand. They had to leave. Or maybe even just looking to make a different kind of living. I can't say for sure.

But, out of curiosity, what would you say would not be a reason to terraform?

Yeah... I was wondering myself if they had to leave, for some reason.

[ She takes about half a second to pause, to put her thoughts into actual words. He can probably hear her tapping the end of a pencil against a table in the meanwhile~ ]

Not a reason? Invasion. Greed. Doubly especially if someone or something is already living there, what right do other people have to come in and take over, and reshape that world into something for them instead?

That sounds pretty fair. So if it was survival you could understand why the terraforming happened even if it went wrong?

I think so. No one counts on a malfunction unless they're just a terrible person, right~?

Terraforming is only fiction where I'm from. People have the idea for it, but it hasn't actually happened. So... do you feel different? I'm curious! If you don't mind my asking, of course.

Well, I suppose it wouldn't be very fair of me to ask and not share my own experience.

I think the will to survive is a remarkable thing and if it can keep someone alive so long as it's not killing anything else on the planet it's a good thing. I mean, it's important to try to fix what is happening in your home first, but if it's beyond repair then to do what you must to survive? I really can't find a fault with that.

Yeah, I can't either. I agree. [ Beat. ] Well, I have no evidence against the people here, so I want to keep believing it was just a malfunction that did this. And that nothing was here to be disturbed by their terraforming. And I definitely want to help, if we figure out a way that we possibly could. You know?

[ She really hopes she's not wrong... ]

I don't see why anyone would want to make a whole moon or planet this poisonous. Their technology is different from what I've seen in my world, but hopefully maybe someone else among us or after us can change things. After all they do say where there is life there is hope.

I'm not sure I know enough about it to pass judgment, really. Terraforming isn't usually considered a bad thing, though, as long as the planet or moon was uninhabited previously.

Does that go for planets that have plants and animals on the planet too in your world? [He is very curious about the thoughts from those where terraforming was a common thing.]

It probably depends on what sort of life it is - how advanced.

See that gets tricky too if you think too hard on it. I mean, some of the stuff on my planet seemed pretty advance to me. Of course, that was before I ran into teleporting reality television space shows.

[In the background there's a soft tapping sound as Vash thinks about this topic. Wrestling with idea with specific examples of home in his mind.]

It is tricky - ethically. Where I come from, the galactic government doesn't have much in the way of ethics, so they run roughshod over, well - just about everything.

That doesn't sound too good. I don't have any proof one way or another, but I hope that wasn't the case here.

There's no Empire here that I know of, so hopefully it was just good intentions gone awry.

I hope so too and I'm going to go on the assumption that they are until I get proof otherwise. [As he is ever the optimist.]

What's terra-forming? Do you mean how they made the moon all sick?

Yeah, what happened is the people here were trying to change the planet. Usually either because they can't live on the planet the way it currently is or to try to make it into something they see as better.

Only here something went wrong so the planet's air and water became polluted and sick instead.

Well that's kinda weird. If they couldn't live on the planet in the first place, how'd they get there?

[That second clause sticks with her, though, especially since directly influencing the world is something her race does pretty regular, but it's maintenance and balance, not "improvement."]

So... what were they trying to change so badly?

Well, for some people, [Like the humans in his world.] their home planets are over crowded or dying. So if they don't move somewhere new their race may die out. So finding a new home is their only choice.

As for improvement, I'm not really sure if that is what they were doing on this planet or not, but for some it could be to try to make the land have more nutrients in it to grow better food. Or maybe a way for the world to have better water or more of it. There are a lot of different ways and probably some who would use it to make more money. A way to make more of something that other people want to buy.

That's... wow, that's... Back home, ponies are in charge of making sure nature works the way it's supposed to... Earth ponies like me take care of the earth and the plants and the animals, the pegasi weather team make the weather and moves the clouds here and there, the unicorns moved the sun and the moon before the princesses took over, and we ALL work together to change the seasons... It's a LOT of pony's jobs and special talents to do that...
