[ It's another glorious day in the mortal realm, or as close to it as one can get when they're adrift in space. And you know what? Eris isn't even bothered that she's been summoned there despite the impossibility of it all. The fleet is just teeming with all sort of calamitous potential. So many people at odds with themselves, riddled with guilt or greed or doubt.

Pawns ripe for her to manipulate and lead to their untimely destruction.

Now that she's no longer confined to the Marsiva Eris can move about freely as she pleases, drifting from ship to ship with a mere thought. The Huntress, Tourist, Red Fish, Blue Fish...any ship is fair game to her and so is anyone. So the big question is...what exactly is your character doing? ]

[ ooc; if you haven't seen or filled it out, here is her permissions! Eris will be creeping and/or flirting on your character like hella if you tag in, be warned. ]

[ There's something there. Charles can't pinpoint it. The power slides off something like water, unable to keep a hold. He frowns, setting his book down on the table in his room. After talking to Erik about that voice, most of his fears had subsided but he can't shake the irrevocable feeling that something has changed in the Fleet.

And Charles is well-versed in unworldly powers. ]

Is someone there?

[ Oh good, that will make this all the more interesting. Because while toying with someone from afar is always great fun, sometimes a more...personal touch was required. And she does so love to play with her toys.

Eris is everywhere and anywhere as she boards the Heron: she's the movement in the corner of one's eye, the shadow crawling up behind one's back. And in Charles' case Eris is the wisp of consciousness he can't quite grasp, the presence that slips through his fingers and remains ever-elusive.

And then the lights in the hall sudden short-circuit and shut off. ]

[ Charles grips the armrests of his chair. There's no way he could navigate in the dark, not like this.

No holding back now, he tells himself as he removes the boundaries of his telepathy, letting it spread across the ship. If someone was there, perhaps he can ask for their help. Or request a flashlight. ]

[ Or maybe, just maybe instead? There will be the sound of something being knocked over far down the hall.

It could be nothing...or there could be someone else there.

But with his lift in restraint comes a much more sinister presence, once that fills the entire each, permeating every nook and cranny until it's settled like thick blanket. ]

[ Charles puts a little more force in it than necessary. He's never liked these kinds of games. ]

I know you're there.

[ And the best part about it? Is that Eris isn't going to bother toying around with his mind like that. No, she's just let her smoky arms slip forward over his shoulders and down his chest, taking form as her hair fans out and spreads. ]

[ Charles twitches. He had really been hoping his guess was wrong. Schooling his expression into something impassive, Charles speaks neutrally. ]

I assume you're the same person I spoke to before. I never got your name.

[ He's lucky that she never lingers in one place for too long even as a low chuckle escapes her, nothing but pure amusement as her head leans back and she dissolves into threads that shoot out and vanish, only to reappear in front of him--just as the emergency red-lighting flickers on, giving her appearance a darker image. ]

[ And all the wonderfully horrid things that entails. ]

[ His eyebrows go up. The actual Greek goddess? ]

The one with the Golden Apple?

That's right. [ She's only a little impressed that he knows; it was common enough knowledge the last time she interfered with the mortal world. ]

What would a Goddess be doing so far away from . . . home?

[ Talk naturally. Don't show fear. ]

[ He doesn't need to show it for Eris to see it, and that's just the beauty of it. Mortals rarely think beyond their own scope; she's yet to meet one who can truly imagine the grand scale she operates and exists upon. "Seeing" someone is nothing so simple as using her eyes. When she gazes upon Charles she's granted access to so much more that whatever meagre attempts he makes at being composed are nothing more than something to amuse her.

She knows what's inside that husk of a man. ]

Oh, you know... Just looking for some fun. [ But her idea of "fun" is obviously anything but benevolent. ] And what a prize to find. A man, lame and downtrodden by the world with the most amusing of gifts. What an interesting little planet you come from.

The world didn't do anything to me.

[ It wasn't the world that hurt him, though sometimes it may seem like the world is against them. Against all of them. ]

It's only a product of my own hubris.

So humble. [ What a cute little pet. ]

You're trying to play mind games with a telepath. I'm not sure if I should be insulted or not.

[ In the blink of an eye Eris is gone from before him, instead reappearing as she leans against the back of his wheelchair without actually putting any weight on it. Her hands brace against the handles, and she lets out a coy laugh. ]

Charles. I'm a Goddess. Game are what I do. You don't really think a brain as cute as yours can keep me out do you? [ She lifts one pointed finger and draws it down along his temple, over his jaw to tilt it back up towards her. ]

[ Charles grips the arm-rests again, white knuckled. He can't move. He can't leave. Essentially, he's quite trapped and he knows it, trapped with the kind of creatures he had feared and despised for months on end. ]

Nothing gets inside my head.

No? [ Oh, please. She'd love to see this. ]

It'd be too easy for you.

[ He knows this pattern. ] It wouldn't be a game if you just overwhelmed me with your power.

So you do have a brain inside that cute little head. [ And he's figured her right. It would be entirely too easy to force herself in, and not any fun at all. What she enjoys more--much more--is the fact that he's caught onto her. She likes the clever ones. ]

[ He shrugs, self-depreciative. He doesn't like the idea of Kyriakos and the library being useful, but he'll take it, if only to survive encounters like these. ]

So the real question here is. What kind of game are you playing and where do I factor in it?

[ Again she laughs, letting her hand slide from his chin and back up to her--into a wisp of air, which forms into her full visage before him.

On his lap. ]

Hmhm...♥ That'd be telling.

Then I suppose I'd have a hard time playing.

Also, get off my lap.

Don't worry. You're doing wonderfully already. [ Eris's game started the moment she first contact him and the first move has already been made. This too is another one of her gentle "pushes" to set him down the course she desires, expression unfaltering even as he makes his demand.

She'll even reach out to tap his nose with one long, slender finger. ]

I have high hopes for you, Charles. Let's hope you can keep that noble act of yours up a little longer, hmm?

[ She doesn't move in proximity, but her form does lift; floating in midair as her lower half swirls and drifts into rivets of smoke. ]

[ I HATE OMNIPOTENT CREATURES.

It takes him a couple of minutes to breathe normally - she was so close and he couldn't move - before he ruthlessly suppresses the feelings.

And go back to reading his book. ]
