[ this is it. months of work, of research, of banging his head against the wall - finally lead them all here, to a little hidden corner of a toxic moon, in full radiation suits, ready to make their first real trial on project plato.

he feels like he should be making a speech of some sort. why does he never learn to make an actual script?

he looks from kara to kitty; the mask hides his smile, but it's obvious in his energy. he actually bounces a little bit with excitement. ]

OK. Before we embark on Project Plato Alpha test - can I just say - this is awesome. And let's not die. [ the last part is a joke. mostly. they ran their calculations very carefully! and kara is mostly invulnerable and kitty can phase. ok, so he's the one who needs to focus on not dying.

there's a reason he usually leaves the speeches to kara and james. ]

[ Winn will get a huff and an eye roll in response but she'll drop it for right now. Not in front of Kitty. ]

Well, you know, huge chunks of my world were irradiated and when we had to go somewhere we had to go somewhere. [She's fine for the moment. Long-term? Well, she never expected a long term. Here's hoping?] I want to hear more about this Jim controversy.

[ is it weird that the huff and eye roll make him feel warm and fuzzy and home? it's probably weird. but he doesn't have time to think about that, because kitty is saying heartbreaking things again and he really wants to hug her right now but this is probably not the time which is why she changed the subject back. so he settles on squeezing her hand. ]

Ok, yeah, he's a little stressed and that's coming from me - but he never once told me not to help you, and he's given good advice on the how - well, I mean, hopefully good - we're not there yet -

Really? Because he treats me like some junior Girl Scout who's going to lose control and kill everyone one day. He acts like I'm going to totally lose it and just laser-eye willy nilly. Like I don't understand how space works.

[ okay she's maybe a little more frustrated with the conversations they've had than she realized ]

I'm both an adult and an actual superhero. No one's perfect, but I'm not a ditz.

[She squeezes his hand back and would love to mouth that she's fine, but gas masks make that hard and she doesn't want to derail things.]

He can be a little too in love with how right he thinks he is about something. [She had friction with him once.] Maybe fly him up into the air and try the conversation again and see how confident he is.

I'm -- a thousand percent sure it's nothing personal. He's always talking to me like I'm gonna blow the ship up in a mad-science moment. [ ... ] And he's kind of a bully with his treadmill.

[ no look he likes jim, but he made kara upset, that means it's totally time to trash him a little bit. priorities. ]

But look, Kara - he's never seen Supergirl in action - he doesn't know how amazing you are. Some people are just slow on the uptake. You know I'm - just as nervous about things going wrong on the ship [ just as? are you sure it's not a little more? ] but I know you, I've seen you in action, and I'm not even a little worried about you being the cause of it. I believe in you.

I'm kind of coming off of a tough time from what I remember, so I get that it's probably irrational, but I don't actually know how to prove to him I'm competent.

Though I like Kitty's idea...

I have good ideas. Winn's are probably a little less on the villain side of the spectrum. [Speaking of spectrum she's going to set the machine up for doing an integrated test of all the types. It may be the combination that gets it done.]

I don't think people with powers are a big thing where Kirk is from. [She really just likes calling him by his last name, okay?] People tend to be uneasy about what they don't understand. It's a step up from fear and hate at least.

[ winn is trying very hard to stir clear of the villainous ideas, extra hard, since his conversation with charles. ]

Just be you, Kara, that's all the proof anyone needs. As huge a pain in the ass as he gets though -- I really don't think he's against you getting your powers back. He wouldn't have helped if he were. He could've really easily destroyed our supplies and gotten rid of my sciencing and your powers in one fell swoop, for probably a long time cuz it would've set up way back.

[ ... ]

Not taking his side here, though, just to be clear, he's kind of a jerk sometimes. [ he made kara sad, that's unacceptable. ]

Well, at least it's not just to me.

He could have. He wouldn't have liked the results if he did though. [Kitty would not have taken kindly to it.]

I think he's just used to being the boss of people.

[ this is so awkward for winn - he doesn't want to take an opposing stand to kitty and kara, but he really doesn't think jim is being fairly represented either. yes, he's a pain in the ass sometimes, but he's a well meaning pain in the ass, and from winn's perspective - a misunderstood one. it's a position he relates to, he's often felt misunderstood. ]

It's definitely not just you. He's been in space a long time, and he's been part of a Star Fleet which sounds kinda militaryish to me? He probably had safety drilled into his head every day. I really don't think it's that he doesn't trust you -- or that he just wants to be in charge -- I think he's just trying to look out for us, do what he knows from his experiences to be right.

[ when winn first arrived, kara told him he and jim would gang up on her. and in a way he absolutely doesn't intend, it may be fulfilled a little bit right now. ]

I get it, okay? And I meant it when I said we could talk about something else. But if it comes up, Winn, maybe just let him know I'm not a fan of being treated like a kid.

Being treated like a kid is the worst. [Says the youngest of their group. But it is even more frustrating when you never got to have a childhood.] Ready to get back at it? Just a few more tests.

[ sure is, thinks the guy most often treated like one. ]

I'll talk to him I promise. Come on, let's forgot about Jim - we're making space history here! And if all else fails, you can take him on that flight.
