Captain's Log 03 - Landing Party

Tests have been run, data has been gathered, packaged, looked over, highlighted with all sorts of colored sharpies. There is only so much the data can prove. What's needed now is an actual investigation, getting the final clue to a puzzle that, Kirk thought, they were running very short of time on.

Which was how he ended up down on the surface of the toxic moon, in front of the nearest terraformer.

Time to go find some answers.

<sub>[ ooc: Since I didn't want to flood the comm, it can be assumed that Kirk announced he would be going to explore the terraformers and asked if anyone wanted to come and form an expedition party. So, if you want to come, feel free to jump in.

I suggest on our next planetfall you do come in your other form. [Tyrion stated firmly.] If I had a different form I would try it every single day. Unfortunately I'm stuck in my Tyrion one. [He smirked faintly.] Luckily he's a charming fellow.

The Tyrion one isn't bad at all. [he grins back, and, after a moment of consideration:] If you want to see it, we were supposed to grab drinks together. And I spend most of the night like that anyway.

Well thank you for that fine compliment, and one day I shall have to return it. [He tipped his head, before he looked at Hank.] Well, I should be delighted to step out with either Hank. When we are finished here?

[beathach]

[he shakes his head with a wry look] There's no need. I'm bad at receiving compliments, you should save it for someone who will accept it with some sort of grace. [what an understatement, the man doesn't even use his proper titles] Mm, if you'd like. Maybe it'll end up being a celebration of some kind.

[tallasaking]

What is it about everyone in your universe being horrible at receiving compliments? Is it part of the mutant gene? [He really wanted to know. Kitty was equally bad..] Well, I never say no to a celebration.

[beathach]

I wouldn't say everyone, but it could be a mutant trait. [or it could be because they just don't get compliments all that often] No, you don't seem the type.

[tallasaking]

Well, you are just all going to have to learn to take them. We shall put it back into your make-up, so to speak. [Tyrion smirked then.] You know me so well already. We shall be great friends.

[beathach]

Good luck with that. Stubborn is another trait we all share. [that was definitely a mutant trait, he was certain of it, even without the science to back it up] I think we will be, too.

[tallasaking]

I really think if you can control your appearances and how you move through doorways - you can control whether or not you are stubborn. [Tyrion states dryly.] The first round of wine is on me, regardless.

I can't speak for the others, but I'm not the worst, at least. [he sounds a bit too amused. He had to wonder just how familiar Tyrion was with mutants, or how much Kitty had told him] As long as you let me pay for the second round, if there is one.

[tallasaking]

[He knows everything that Kitty has told him ... and anything he's been able to get his hands on.] Gracious, two rounds should be more than enough.

[beathach]

I doubt it'll get that far, but - [a shrug] Either that or the next time, it's my treat.

I thank you for your future generosity - and shall be sure to order a very good glass of wine then. [He smirked faintly, as he continued to look up at the framing around them.] Does any of this seem ... familiar to you?

[beathach]

By all means. [Hank looks up as well and lets out a sigh, a mix of exasperated and annoyed] Not one bit. Terraforming is just a concept in my time, and not even a popular one. It's just a bunch of scientists throwing theories at the wall to see if one sticks, but as far as I know nothing's stuck just yet. They keep disproving what they come up with.

[a little wryly] I believe the saying is "this is above my pay grade".

[tallasaking]

[He sighed heavily, as he too looked around.] It looms familiar - but only to the augmented part of my mind. To the rest of it -- it looks like a complete shambles of a castle. Odd that.

[beathach]

It does resemble a castle in some ways. [it's an apt enough description. He can't help but reach up to touch the ceiling - it's been getting a bit more narrower as they walked, and he feels as though he'll soon have to hunch over to keep up. Curse being tall] Functionality rather than practicality. I guess they didn't account for overly tall individuals wandering around in here.

I was with Allen earlier ... the corridors keep getting smaller and smaller, until even I cannot fit. I thought that passingly odd - as if this place exists in it's own space.

[beathach]

It's incredibly odd. How did they expect to do maintenance if the terraformers did work like they were supposed to? Unless it's able to be accessed remotely, or they have special - I don't know, robots who can come in and do it for them.

[tallasaking]

I have not seen robots -- but I have been having my suspicions about whether or not this can be fixed remotely. [He murmured, looking around.]

[beathach]

What are your suspicions?

[tallasaking]

I suspect that the Atroma had something to do with the failure of this machine. I think it is altogether too convenient that I seem to remember something like this - and have never seen such a creature in my life.

[beathach]

. . . that's a hell of a suspicion. [and, honestly, he wouldn't be surprised if it was even close to truth] Did the Atroma exist when this moon was inhabited?

[tallasaking]

I tend to go for the most paranoid answer first. [It has kept him alive.] I am not sure - because we are not allowed information about Atroma, if you recall.

[beathach]

I recall, it doesn't mean I can't hope some hasn't slipped through anyway. [oh, how he was used to the "people in charge" having information that was unattainable. He just sighs] But honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if you were right. [a bit dryly] My paranoia agrees with yours.

We are going to hope so, if nothing else ...we can at least take advantage of fragments. [Not that he would say that outloud, because if he did, things would go quite badly.]]
