[ they’re not kidding when they say these broadcaster things will start up the moment you start waking up. because the figure on the screen barely even shifts before it comes on, breathes for just a second or two before his eyes fly open and he’s sitting up.

because that cold chill? this bed? everything he’s seeing around him? is not right.

he surveys the room for a moment, trying to place not only himself but where that someone is watching me feeling on the back of his neck is coming from, before he turns and looks directly into the camera.

Probably not a mistake. Atroma seems to make the decisions based on what I can only assume is its own sick sense of humor or completely random die rolls.

That being said - why don't you like your assignment? Someone you know on the ship?

I like him fine. I'm just not sure how I feel about him being the captain of a ship.

Fair enough. If you're really bothered you can put in for a transfer to another ship. Plenty of people do it and I haven't seen Atroma deny anyone so far. Though, to be frank I think that's just for paperwork. I don't know of anything stopping people from just... Taking up residence on another ship besides the current crew. That or you incite a mutiny.

At this point? I don't know if I'd leave the rest of the crew alone.

Good man. But to be honest I don't think the title captain really means what we all think it should mean here. Atroma controls where and when the ships go, and it's not like anyone HAS to follow our orders. We're not a full fledged Star Fleet or anything, and no one actually signed up for this.

But even if captains don't get to pick our flight course, having someone head up the ship is necessary. If only for the figurehead.

Yeah, sure did. I'm Captain of the United Federation Starship Enterprise, of Star Fleet, back in my world. And I won't argue there. But I hesitate to call it a true captaincy either. I mean - if it makes you feel better, at least this person cant order you into a sun for kicks.
