[ they’re not kidding when they say these broadcaster things will start up the moment you start waking up. because the figure on the screen barely even shifts before it comes on, breathes for just a second or two before his eyes fly open and he’s sitting up.

because that cold chill? this bed? everything he’s seeing around him? is not right.

he surveys the room for a moment, trying to place not only himself but where that someone is watching me feeling on the back of his neck is coming from, before he turns and looks directly into the camera.

[ the text comes up a couple of hours later, not because he totally didn’t know what he was doing or anything. nope.

stupid not-stark tech. ]

I need to know who we talk to around here about positions and ranking officers.

Because I’m pretty sure there’s a mistake in my assignment.

[She nods, giving Sam a sympathetic smile.]

At the very least, you will not be the only one with that feeling.

There's a comfort in numbers, then.

[ he looks around a bit himself, before sighing and shaking his head. ]

But at least we'll adapt. We always do, right?

[She gives a bit of a weak smile and nod. She tries to look reassuring, but all the while she's wondering "Do they always adapt? Was that true?" It was just a little odd suddenly feeling like she was the one from the past needing to play catch-up.]

I suppose. We have managed to this far at least.

[ there's a trick to all of this, sam has found. it's a lot of 'don't ask too many questions' and 'know where your loyalties lie'.

this thought process might (spoiler: does) lead him into some questionable places, but he it hasn't stopped him yet. ]

[That gets a soft snort and a giggle from Wanda. A warmer grin finding its way onto her face.]

[She never could resist an opportunity to get in a bit of teasing.]

[Even if Wanda does seem to be as familiar with Sam as seems to be with her, she can't help but smile back. His positive attitude was kind of infectious. A lot like Steve's could be.]

Indeed. Seems you have all the tools you need to be a top cast member.

Seems? C'mon Wanda, you know I already am. Cap just likes to think he's special but we know who the real American Hero is.

[ it's total bs, but that is probably half the reason his grin holds. ]
