The First Order is a military government that wants one thing: control. They want to control everything and everyone, because in their minds you can only have peace under an iron fist. They take over entire planets and destroy anyone who opposes them. They won't stop at killing innocent people to get what they want--in fact, they don't even start with anything else.

... Okay, I think your bad guys win.

[She's not making any motions to cut him off or anything. Carry on, dude.]

[He clenches one hand into a fist.]

Some people decided this was a terrible idea and wanted to oppose the First Order. Other people wanted to pretend that nothing was wrong - maybe they didn't have all the facts, maybe they just didn't want to attract their attention. It comes down to the same thing. Only a small force called the Resistance had the courage to fight them.

[And maybe Poe's told her he's part of the Resistance.]

The bigger group, the one that didn't think anything was wrong, they're called the Republic. A lot of planets are part of the Republic, and they all get along because they send their Senators to the government to work out trade agreements and settle disputes with each other.

The First Order wanted to strike at the Resistance, but their base was hidden So instead, General Hux decided the best way to make them come out of hiding was to destroy the entire planetary system where the Republic had its headquarters.

... The whole WHAT?!

The whole system. Half a dozen planets and moons, gone. Just like that.

[Just gonna... slump on the table now.]

[Finn bites his lip. There are a number of reasons, but...he's still not comfortable having the I'm a Stormtrooper chat with people.]

[If she knew about the chat with Ahsoka, Pinkie would be soooo miffed right now.]
