[ kate's surroundings are, quite evidently, a lush little corner of málum. the neon-y blue tinge of the bar's decor casts its colour over her features. there's a tall, impressively concocted cocktail at her elbow. ] I mean, I know I do. So here's how it goes: you tell me anywhere you'd rather be but here, with the caveat that it can't just be a home. I think it's safe to say that home is a very understandable answer, but it's also a little too achingly realistic for my purposes. So pick somewhere else. Pick Ibiza. Pick Iceland, if you want.

Well, unless Iceland is your home. Then please refer to rule numero uno. It also happens to be the game's only rule. [ short and sweet, that's our katerade.

Very...French. [ helpful, right? ] It's considered romantic. A hub for the arts, and for food, and for all things romantic.

Sounds like what Orlais or Antiva try to be in Thedas. Antivans are always going on about how they're the masters of love and Orlais is entirely style over substance in the richer areas. You know, I met an Orlesian duke once who kept a Wyvern for a pet. Can you imagine! A bloodthirsty beast as a pet.

They do make very nice furniture though.

Sooo, what's a wyvern though?

Oh, it's a, um. Well they're related to dragons, but smaller and I don't think they can fly. Maybe glide, but that's about it. They still breathe fire or lightning or whathaveyou though.

Sounds like the high fantasy equivalent of a reclusive old rich dude owning a pet tiger, I guess.

[He laughs.]

I assure you it's very much reality, but you're entirely correct. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd had a tiger either, though they're much more exotic. Probably harder to get even if you are Orlesian nobility.

[Adalwolfe shrugs.]

I never really saw the wisdom in owning any animal bigger than a dog. A dragon would be too difficult to take care of, unfortunately.

[Boy if they weren't though...]

Horses are bigger than dogs.

[ logic. ]

Very true, and dragons even bigger than that.

[He really likes dragons, can you tell?]

I guess so. I can't say I, uh, run into many of them. Dragons, that is.

Probably for the best considering they can be pretty deadly. I've killed one before but it took a lot.

[Don't try and hide how impressed you are Kate.]

As in, without three friends for backup I'm certain I would have been eaten.

[He says that far too cheerfully.]

Huh. Good thing you have friends, then.

Friends make life worth living.

[There isn't a trace of irony in the statement, or even that he's aware it sounds sappy as heck.]

[That makes him pause.]

...Sort of. One is from a different time and one is from a different reality altogether. It does make things a little difficult.

What about you?

Tell me about it. The most familiar face I know is definitely a little...out-of-step. So to speak.

It sucks.

[If she's having the same problem it's not complaining, it's commiserating.]

You think of all these things you want to tell them and then remember they wouldn't get the joke because they haven't done that yet or that they might be disconcerted that you know that about them when they can't even remember ever meeting you. It's terrible.

Something like that.

[ her case is a little...different. every time she sees clint, she has to ask herself -- is it fair to hold him accountable for mistakes he hasn't yet made? mistakes she knows he will make. ]

[Not all that different, if he were willing to share. Anders and all he'd done... Hawke had years to come to terms with it but Anders is still out the earlier end, not even the sort of man who would commit such an act and knowing that has made it come roaring back, wondering if he could change it or if perhaps it's already changed for Anders being here and not there. He doesn't know and there's no one to ask.

And unfortunately it's not the sort of thing you talk about to someone you've just met. But perhaps someday.]

Well it's not exactly the same, I grant you. Everyone is different.

Makes you wonder what's kinder. Telling them, or...not.

I don't know. He sort of figured it out, when we talked. That I knew him at least. I don't know what else I should tell him considering what he's done. Does. Will do, in his future.

It's complicated.

I suppose the question you have to ask yourself is...who does telling him help? Does it just alleviate your awkwardness? 'Cause then maybe telling is just too selfish. It's not like he can do anything about it from here.
