(Marsiva's hospitality cannot erase what Maedhros has endured. He is dressed cleanly and his hair is braided neatly and away from his face. Even his burns have been healed with minimal scarring. But there is something untamed in his eyes.

Something that burns like a hungry, desperate fire.)

...why? (His low voice resonates clearly, cutting through the air with ease. He needn't ever shout.) Surely these quarters are not located within the Halls of Mandos?

(He feels life flowing within him and it is wrong. Lifting his only fist, he hits the nearest wall, clenching his teeth.)

Do not trap my fëa. Arda is safer with me dead.

Not soon enough. (He feels their bond awakening. Somehow, Maglor has kept it alive and it is a bond in agony.) I will board one and come to you.

(He is the eldest and he must take charge.)

Yes. As real as you and our cousin. As real as Lady Syeira.

Even across the distance, Maglor is reaching clumsily for his brother, the same instinct he has had since childhood.

"I can come." He murmurs, eyes devouring his brother's features.

"Syeira is kind - Finrod too. There are good people here."

(He cannot help but reach back. His fëa hungers to see Maglor in person; to know he is whole and safe.)

Only if it is safe. (Maedhros won't stand for unnecessary risks.)

They are...kind. But you are who I worry for most.

Of all his kin, Maglor's skill with mind and spirit is the weakest - but the only bond he has older than Maedhros is with his parents, and he has had Maedhros for longer, the severing leaving a wound that never healed.

"The jumpers are eady enough to pilot - the Augments teach us how. But you wilk have to let me in, or vice versa."

He smiles shyly. "I am alright, now that you are here."

Tell me when you can...pilot a jumper...and I will be ready to receive you. (There is no question. Maedhros will see to it that Maglor has a safe journey.

He rises from the bed he has been sitting on, stretching his legs.) I know of...weapons. Is that too part of the Augment?

(The shy smile earns a softer expression.)

You are kind.

He shakes his head. "We are each given different things, according to the whims of out kidnappers, they tell me." He cannot quite suppress the confused emotions stirred by knowing his brother's skill was linked to weapons.

"I can come as soon as you leave the Marsiva."

I will depart as soon as I am allowed. (He wonders how he is supposed to fire a gun - and maintain a gun - properly with one hand.) Take care of yourself until then, Kano. Please?

"I will! I promise, Nelyo. But you have to be careful too. People here are kind but some are very powerful, with strange gifts and abilities."

Automatically he falls back to old habits, fulfilling his role as his brother's eyes and ears.

"If you need anything... Ask....ask for Doctor Beverley, or James Kirk. They have been kind to me. You can trust Apollo and young master Alphonse, too. My shipmates are all good people. Lady Syeira and Lady Misty ate both very kind. Be gentle with Syeira, she carries much pain."

I think these circumstances strange enough. My head aches imagining - (No, it's better not to touch on his healing or his transport from the flames.)

Of those you name, I have only spoken at length with Lady Syeira. She insists on being a friend. I do not know what to do.

"I was watching the White Ship Sail when they brought me here." Maglor says softly, and his aching wistfulness and subdued pleasure in knowing the last of his family was going home he does not hide.

"Be kind to her." He repeats. "She carries such pain, Nelyo. But her heart remains so kind. She is so young!" And Maglor aches for her.

The last...? (So many years. His lifespan almost doubled, perhaps.) You are the older brother now.

(Except he will not let that stand for long.)

Precisely. She does not need my darkness.

"The last that bears any of our immediate kin." Maglor confirms. "There will be other ships, but less and less. Very few Eldar remain, and even the Sindar and Silvan now begin to look West. Our time is over."

But Maglor will remain.

"I suppose by time?" He blinks shyly. "But you will always be my older brother."

He shakes his head. "She needs Nelyo, not Maedhros." He says quietly. "The brother I remember who tried so hard to keep us safe. She hurts so much, Nelyo - and you are kinder than you think yourself. You said that about Elrond and Elros, too."

You have watched over them. (He does not ask; there is no need. After their eventful lives, it is a position he would have accepted too if madness and despair had not consumed his sanity.)

What will become of you, brother? Where will you find a warm hearth? (Where will Maglor accept such comfort? He closes his eyes, bowing his head.)

You can help me find Nelyo. I fear I lost sight of him in the fire.

"Elrond does very well. And Elros has good reason to be pleased with his legacy." Maglor confirms.

He shrugs a little. "I make do."

"Nelyo has never been lost." He says quietly but firmly. "He came to find me here, and tried to save me at home."

(The names warm him from head to toe. Little Elven faces surface in his memory and he closes his eyes, remembering soft voices and sweet embraces.)

I miss them. (But Maglor does too.) I want more for you than "making do".

(His strict tone can't last, however.)

I did not come on purpose, toron. If I had known you were here, I would have.

Another quiet shrug.

"I will be alright." He murmurs softly.

"I know - but you came. You almost always do." Excepting that one time.

Alright is all we have managed. (It's not good enough.)

I want to come to you. You were never the problem.

"As long as you are here, I will be well." He promises.

"Alright - I am on the Huntress, or we can meet on the Iskaliut. I...wanted to open a music shop."

His shoulders sag in relief to know it wasn't his fault.

I will...try to be my best. (For Maglor's sake.)

You should. (He smiles, proud.) Have you considered giving concerts too?

"All I need is you." Maglor assures him. "Just having you again is a blessing unlooked for."

He ducks a little, pleased. "A young man named Winn wanted me to participate in his exchange of cultures. Janes Kirk also wished to hear me play, as did Obi-Wan, one of my shipmates."

( "Even now? Even after I abandoned you?" He wants to ask, but his throat aches, closing around the words.)

Do not be too kind to me, Kano. I do not deserve it.

(The past is pushed back - far back - when he sees Maglor's happiness.)

Then do not keep them waiting! I would like to listen too.

"You deserve the world." He says fiercly. "I would do anything for you."

He flushes, pleased.

"I already agreed. I will let you know when we set a time. But I can play for you any time, Nelyo"

(He blushes darkly and it is impossible for him to hide his delight over his brother's response. Maedhros will just have to ensure Maglor never goes too far.)

Then be happy for me. Do what makes you smile. I do not like missing even one of Kano's concerts.

Would you play for me?

"Of course!" He beams at him, willing to put everything else aside for the moment.

"What do you want to hear?"

I admit I have missed it all. (The finished creations and the unfinished. He has even missed Maglor practicing his scales!)
