Would anybody be interested in joining an Augment Support network? Like, for people who need help getting the hang of their augment and want to ask a veteran, or for someone who learns something new and wants to share it with their peers.

I'm fine with doing the all the administrative work if anybody is interested being a mentor, or would like to be available for a help line. Or if someone would like help connecting with someone who has more expertise.

I think we all have a lot to offer each other.

Kate! Pleasure to meet you. I'm over on the Huntress, I'm the engineer and new First Mate.

Hey, question! What do you guys have by way of food over there? Do you have a lot of those flavor packet things? I was also thinking about maybe trying to work out some resource trading among the ships.

Our ship is the baby of the fleet. Newly commissioned. Because if it, we don't have much in the way of upgrades -- and the kitchen hasn't exactly been prioritized. Everything I have to work with is either bog standard, donated from others, or purchased at way-stations.

That's not good. The food's already not the greatest; not having much to work with doesn't help. I know our ship's captain has been doing a lot of experimentation with making decent food from the standard stock. Would you like me to ask him to give you a call? He might be able to give you a few tips.

His name's Mikleo! [ah but] You might not be able to see him. Or hear him, if you're off the comms. But there's a way around that, so don't worry!

Something like that! He's not dead, but he is a spirit. But you can at least hear him over the comms, and if you need to hear him in person then so long as I hold your hand, you will. [is this a pickup attempt

Yep. Or so long as we're touching somehow? I think as long as there's contact, it's fine.

How does that work?

Ahhh, pacts and magic and ancient traditions...mostly I work as a conduit. If you're around him a lot, you'll eventually develop the sense to see and hear him on your own, though how quickly that happens depends on the person. But in the meantime, I'm kind of like your go-between! Think of me as the middle man.

The translator. Right. [ ... ] That must be kinda awkward. How many people end up accusing you of having an imaginary friend?

Quite a few! I usually try to keep it much more secret than I do here. But since anybody can hear him over the comms, it's a lot easier to prove that he exists.

Or you're just a great ventriloquist.

You know, nobody's ever suggested that before! I should use that as cover. I'm not a great liar though, but I'm always getting scolded for not being more aware of how a situation looks... [he is such a headache to his ghost friends ok]

Not so covert, huh? That's okay. Some people would say that not being a great liar is a good thing.

Maybe. But people who know how to avoid suspicion and can be discreet are just as necessary. Politics and such can get... complicated.

Only if you let people complicate it. [ she shrugs. maybe her position on the matter is particularly advantaged due to her family name and her upbringing, but kate is a fan of telling truth to power. ]

That's what I say! [he gets in trouble for it] I don't understand the political game at all, it's so unnecessarily complicated. And it feels like it's specifically arranged so that the more corrupt you are, the further you get! what's up with that??

It's because the unscrupulous tend not to care about the consequences that don't directly hurt themselves. That's why.

It's just so hard to accept "because they don't care" as an explanation. Even if it's true.

Augh, I'm sorry, this got kinda heavy.
