[A hand reaches out to grasp a mechanical limb before grey eyes even blink open to stare suspiciously. Fëanor feels rested, energized even, despite the most recent long hours spent over the forge's fires working on his masterpiece.]

Who dares...?

[Awareness flickers through him and the elf pauses. He sits up from the bed, though doesn't immediately move to get off, nor release the robot's 'arm'. An impatient hand reaches up and shoves a lock of black hair that had gotten free of the loose braid back behind a pointed ear and he studies the robot a bit more closely.]

Do you have a name? Are you a thinking creature? [A pause and he absently hums, head tilting a little in thought.] I think not in the ways of Arda.

['Bot, be glad he has no tools on him.]

[Relieved pleasure touches his eyes and he smiles. Leaning forward, he rests his chin on a loose fist.] Tell me of them.

(Speaking of Elrond and Elros is difficult, but his heart warms at their mere memory.)

We destroyed their city in search of the Silmarils. Kano found them first, hidden away in a palace. Two little Princes - twins. I did not know what to do with them, but we could not leave them.

And we could not kill them.

(Yes, things were that bad.)

So we kept them safe and raised them until we could return them to allies of their parents.

[Sometimes it's the memory that does more good than not.]

You made the best of what was done. The children were unharmed and raised well. [He knows his eldest two too well to believe otherwise.]

Peredhel twins at that. (A sweet rarity.) Both had hair as black as night and grey eyes.

Kano took to them faster than I did. I fought it. (Out of fear and confusion.) In the end, we loved them and they loved us. We did what was best for them.

Staying with us would have put them in danger. (So they let them go. Their precious sons.)

Peredhel? [That possibility's never occurred to him!]

You both deserve families. Children. If those twins were all you could have, I am glad they came to love you as you deserve.

Even if you had to let them good. [To be safe.]

Yes. King Manwë gave their sire a gift for all of his woe. Every Peredhel can now choose which race they will belong to and their life will follow accordingly.

(A sigh.) Elrond chose to be an Elf. Elros chose to be a Man.

(Such brave little twins.)

We were...an odd family, perhaps, but we laughed, we smiled, we gave them baths and put them to bed...

[So much woe.]

That could not be easy for you to learn.

[He understands that much!]

You fathered them. I wish I could know them.

No, but I knew they were destined for...different greatness. I know they ruled their people well.

(His ears pink.)

Should they come here, I will introduce you gladly.

They would have to be, having been raised by my sons.

(That is a complicated question, but as Fëanor is now there is no other answer he can give:)

Would they want to meet their grandfather? What child wouldn't?

Then I hope they are brought here. [Selfish, yes, but he doesn't particularly care.]

I agree. There is a part of them that we will claim for the rest of their lives. (He cannot let go like Maglor. Maedhros has to stop himself from seeking them out even now, amongst the stars.)

If that would bring them happiness...so be it. I know - to some degree - how you must feel about us. Their happiness is my own.

Yes. [Maedhros is meant to have children. To nurture them. To never let go.]

As your successes, joys, and failures are mine. [And there's pride in his voice still.]

(He would be a wonderful father - as would Maglor. Maybe they get that chance in another time and place.)

Ah not my failures. (There are too many to count!) I am fine with you claiming my successes.

[All of his sons would be. Fëanor hopes each of them get the chance, should he succeed.]

Nelyo. I accept all that you are. I love you all the same.

(He bites the inside of his cheek and swallows thickly.)

I couldn't save you. I couldn't save my brothers. I abandoned Kano.

I admit there is naught much for you to love.

[Oh child. Fëanor touches the image of his son again, hating the return of pain and heart ache.]

There is more than you see. I see an elf I am proud to call mine. An elf I am proud to love.

(He can sense his father if he closes his eyes. The fire which has been nothing but ashes for so long is burning merrily.)

I would give...anything...to see our family whole, safe and happy.

[So bright. Fierce and full of love.]

So it will be, if I succeed. [There's a desperate wish in his heart now. That he can hold onto even just the awareness of what his Silmarils do.]

I trust you. (His expression is solemn, set.) We will follow you. Our loyalty never wavered - nor shall it ever.

[See? Proof that he has the best sons. Right there.]

I will be worthy of your loyalty here.

I have never questioned that. (No, he worried far more for Fëanor's mental - and physical - health.) I cannot. We know you outside of the Silmarils. As long as you remain apart, no one can question your worth.
