[Alright, so technically he was warned that this might not be entirely wise, but whatever, nothing ventured, nothing gained. And the warning came from someone who hails from a world with evil inventor supervillains, and this place is totally different. It's fine. This will be just fine.

The comm clicks on to reveal a corner of the Paisley's engineering room, where a couple of boxes of spare parts and tools have been stacked and labeled nearby. Kirito plops himself on the floor in front of it, offering an awkward wave.]

Hey, this is a general shout-out to the engineers of the fleet- not just the ones with engineering augments, but specifically people who like to experiment with tech, invent stuff, that sort of thing. Don't know about you, but I've been working mostly on my ship, and it's getting a little crowded, so I'm putting together a more official lab on the Iskaulit. It'll really barebones, but that's the point of this.

Anyone interested in contributing? We could get some tables and set up a decent workshop for more people. It might be cool to have a general area where some of us can work together, swap ideas, maybe get some experience with fields other than whatever we specialize in. I know I've got a lot to learn, and I'd like to see more of what's out there.

While I'm at it, does anyone have experience with building furniture? Or even making cushions? We're gonna need a lot for another project I'm working on.

[He pulls the communicator out of his jacket pocket and offers it out to her. It doesn't look that different, but there's a little wire with a plug at the end jerry-rigged through the back and held in place with a layer or two of electrical tape.]

[She takes it, flipping it over carefully in her hands to examine the additions, and then switches it on, face lighting up as she sees the read-only version of the network come up.]

This is great! I mean it'd have been perfect to get the whole dimensional travelling thing going again, but I'm guessing if you can't connect to the original network that's impossible. [It was the most outside of outside chances tbh. She's not exactly crushed.]

Okay, you have to give me more details about the dimensional-travel thing, because I couldn't find anything in the tech itself.

[You tease, that sounds amazing.]

You probably wouldn't. I think that was a mix of magic between the Animus spirits in Adstring and an angelic ritual. We got to go home, but if we used the network we were meant to be able to return to Adstring and then take a portal to any world from there if we wanted. Any world that people went back to, anyway.

[She sighs down at the device.] I never really got the chance to use it because, you know, here I am. But Sam did. He came sailing with us for a week before he went home. You could ask him for more details.

[Whoa, that's trippy.]

That's amazing... the place you were at before now sounds like it was really cool. There's so much potential for a power like that!

There is! It sure widened my concept of "holiday destination", that's for sure. It'd have been nice if I could access it here somehow, because then I could get some of us home.

Hah, that's probably why you can't use it. Did it force you to go back to that other place, or could you stay home as long as you wanted?

Yeah, you'd be right, I'll bet.

And you got to stay home. It's only if you wanted to travel to someone else's world that you had to go back there. It's... kind of like a home station.

That's so cool. If it was that easy, I wonder if people would come back to a place like this. I wouldn't mind visiting once in a while, but I'd probably be gone as soon as I got hungry.

I think people might come back temporarily just so they can revisit the friends they made here. Or if they weirdly have an attraction for space. [She grins.] I prefer places with a little more atmosphere.

[That was terrible and she should feel ashamed. But since she won't, Kirito just sighs and slow-claps. He's probably just salty that he didn't say it first.]

Clay would totally come back all the time. Plenty others too, I'm sure.

[She grins.] Well, yeah. Clay definitely sprang to mind. I've never met anyone so eager about all that's out there.

[She'd probably come back to say hi to Clay and keep learning how to do her charts tbh. She hates not knowing how to chart something.]

Well, it kind of makes sense. If it'd been my lifelong dream to go into space and I suddenly woke up there, I'd be pretty happy. After the shock, that is.

[Then again, his dreams had come true in the worst way when he'd gotten trapped in SAO, soooo. Not always a good thing.]

No, I don't blame him. But if we could wedge a door open so he could go home to his friends or family any time, that'd be even better.

Probably. If it's an ongoing screening they have to pay attention to who their audience likes, after all.

Ugh, probably. I wonder if there's a way to get around that sort of thing. Send a coded message. I dunno. Wear t-shirts that all say "abduction victims" for a week straight to make them really work for the content.
