[The video pops up with Adalwolfe's face centered in the camera, but with the background moving behind him, clearly showing the familiar corridors of the Iskaulit. He's making his way to his new job at Málum as bartender.]

So I noticed on the list of scheduled lectures posted a bit ago that there are several on magic, not to mention several people I've spoken with having positive or relaxed reactions to its use. It's incredibly strange to me that everyone is so open and accepting of this, considering the doctrine regarding magic in my home of Thedas, so it begs the following question and I hope at least someone from outside of Thedas will indulge me:

What is magic like on your world? Is it regulated? Does everyone have the ability to use it, or only a small number of people? Are there prejudices that go along with that.

Ah, well, I suppose that's more than one question. Still, if you're willing to talk about it, please feel free to respond to this post and I'll get back to you when I'm finished with work. Thank you!

It's only a short walk from the hanger to the bar, but Adalwolfe takes his time since he can't watch where he's going very well as he's recording on his device. Which could lead to all kinds of problems. He seems to be avoiding walls okay, but if a person, say, came out of a corridor nearby or happened to step in front of him at just the right time before he put down the little screen, he might just bowl right into them, or walk right past without noticing a mischievous foot out for him to trip over. Honestly, he's an open target. Or at least seems like it...

[Dezel likes to be nosy, and the bug ship is pretty good for that. He's been working on a home for the rats. But when he's not taping together cardboard tubes, he likes to see just who hangs out here... and that includes silver fox mages.

He doesn't approach him openly, but he does lean on the wall nearby. If Hawke has no sensitivity to seraphim-- up to you-- then at the very least, he will feel watched.]

[Adalwolfe pockets his device and raises his hands to adjust the collar of his shirt as he strides right by Dezel, seemingly not noticing him at all and humming tunelessly under his breath as he heads for Málum.

He stops mid-note half a step later, going very still with his hands still at his shirt. He barely even breathes, instead listening hard for whatever it is that's making the hairs on the back of his neck stand straight up, but all he perceives so far is the movement of recycled air through the ship's life support systems.

But there is something here. He knows it.]

[ Bowling right into someone seems about right, because even if Jihwan's mildly paying attention to where he's going, the last thing he expects it so be hit by the wall of muscle that is Hawke. He jsut just enough time to look up before he's knocked clean off his feet and winds up sprawled on his back with a sound of surprise. ]

[Adalwolfe, for all his aforementioned wall of muscle, gets pushed sideways from the impact instead of knocked over, but he's quick to shove his device in his pocket and whip to look at who he might have hurt.]

[He leans down to offer a hand up.]

Are you hurt? I should have been paying more attention.

[Riona is making the same mistake as Hawke: not looking where she's going while she's on the communicator. In her case, she's simply checking messages and taking a look at some of the files others in the fleet have uploaded during their time. She smiles a little when she comes across something she likes, and it drags her attention away from her surroundings-

-and that's how she runs smack dab into Hawke.

What she lets loose is a bit of an undignified yelp as she stumbles back and into the wall. But she quickly laughs and starts to apologize.]

Maker, I am so sorry! This thing had-

[She cuts off when she sees just who it is she ran into. And immediately the laughter - and her smile - fade. Of all the fucking luck, she bumps into the one person she really didn't want to see.

Sigh. And she promised Leliana she would avoid him...]

[He yelps just as she does, shifting to the side in a sort of lithe dance move that someone of his size probably shouldn't rightly be able to pull off. He keeps his feet and immediately starts to apologize at the same time she does.]

Andraste's knickers I'm sorry, I-

[And realizes who he's talking to at the same time she does.

Maker's balls, and he'd done such a good job of avoiding her so far.]

...are you alright? I should have been watching where I was going.

[He finally ventures, glad she didn't fall over and he'd need to risk offering her a hand up that she might otherwise snap off. Even for all his wariness, he does look earnest about her well being.]

I can do alchemy- I think of it as a science, but from what I've gathered it's closer to what other people call "magic" and can perform some of the same functions. It's the deconstruction and reconstruction of matter into new forms.

That sounds similar to a new discipline where I'm from. Those who practice it are called Arcanists, though I think there's just one so far. I met her briefly and the things she can do with just a hammer and a bit of lyrium are phenomenal. Still, it's not magic in the way that I know magic. Dwarves can't use it.

But you say you can change the inherent properties of an object?

[That sounds like magic.]

Are there laws governing this where you're from?

Magic in my world is regulated, but it's used freely. There are laws in place to stop people hurting each other or abusing their power, and we do our best to make sure people without magic have no idea that it's real at all.

[ Hesitating, she huffs a little noise. ]

It was different in the world I was in before this one. Anyone could use magic as long as they knew the right runes, and it wasn't a secret, even if certain types of magic were frowned upon.

So mages in your world were separated entirely? How does that work? Doesn't your religion have anything to say about it?

[He rubs his chin in thought.]

And a world where everyone can use magic, that's even more confounding, thought runes aren't strictly magic, just enchantments.

Anyone might use magic, if they do their best to learn and acquire the proper teacher.

[ She tilts her head up, expression stoney and serious. ]

There are ideas on what types of magic are right and wrong. Some are taboo, others are not.

I don't think that's true, at least not in Thedas.

[If it was wouldn't the Chantry just lose their minds? It's an entertaining thought...]

But yes, we do have that. Most of it is common sense, like leaving demons well enough alone.

[She's... a bit intense there, in the video, but his curiosity outweighs his sense of foreboding.]

[It was... strange how they left their first meeting. Friendly but awkward, not knowing exactly where to step but knowing where not to. Because of that, Adalwolfe isn't certain where this is going to go but he does know that 'we need to talk' isn't usually followed by rainbows and puppies.

He encrypts the text channel and ducks into a supply closet at the back of the bar, the few minutes it took to fuss with the settings giving him ample time to get to work and then proceed to tuck himself away instead of actually, y'know, start work.]

My world doesn't actually have any magic! I mean, unless you count magic tricks, but that's mostly just smoke and mirrors and slight of hand. There's a friend of a friend who's really good at it, but it's still just tricking the audience into thinking you did it.

No, I was referring to real magic, controlling the primal forces of nature, that sort of thing. Sleight of hand is more reserved for rogues who cheat at cards where I'm from.

[He misses Varric. A lot.]

Funny that you'd have an audience for that, though. How did that come about? I've seen jugglers and the like but never card tricks presented as theatre.

Magic is viewed as the work of women in the realm of Asgard. There is no regulation upon it other than punishment from the king if one annoys him.

I imagine it must be a shock to suddenly see someone with abilities you haven't conceived of before.

[He sounds unsure though. It's difficult to imagine a world with magic so on the down low that most people aren't even aware of it.]

[It takes all of Crowley's willpower not to stick his foot out and trip Wolfe up. The temptation is REALLY there. But the guy works for him, and he's sure Tyrion would have some sort of fit if he got rid of a new employee so early on, so instead, he leans on the doorframe, watching Wolfe wander past, before giving a whistle. ]

[Hawke looks up at Crowley's voice, sporting a lovely split lip from his... "discussion" with Riona nearer the hanger not much earlier. Hey, at least it's not a black eye? Heck, it's not even bleeding anymore.]

Oh! Sorry. A bit distracted.

[He pockets the communicator, giving a bit of a sheepish grin but nonetheless a friendly one.]

This ship is like a maze sometimes, I swear.

It's in the bar Anders finds Hawke. It was no accident, either. He knew Hawke had taken up work in the other bar, he'd yet to set foot in the establishment. Today, he was doing it with every intention of meeting the man behind the counter.

He'd chosen something 'dressier' than the jumpsuit he'd been issued. The blue and silver striped robes of the wardens stood out for sure, but without the metal bits and bobbles meant to protect the wearer from things more sharp than spells, it was no different than a strangely patterned piece of clothing. Well, no stranger than mage's robes even looked in the fleet. It wasn't just his clothes that were nicer, his entire demeanor was drastically different than the worn-down healer who'd last talked to Hawke, he'd cleaned up nicely and by design.

As he'd told Vash, how could you expect anyone to take you seriously if you didn't constantly look your best?

He settled into one of the stools at the bar and fixed a charming smile to his face. "Oh, bartender? I believe I require some service."

That voice isn't one what Hawke was expecting to hear and he nearly fumbles a glass as he whips his head up to spot Anders at the bar, practically resplendent in his Grey Warden robes - robes Hawke had never seen him in before, much less looking so well-kempt. His hair is neatly back, his beard trimmed to attractive stubble, and he even has an earring. When had Anders ever worn an earring?

He likes it.

Maker's balls but even if Anders doesn't remember him, his sight to Adalwolfe's sore eyes is an incredibly welcome one after the relatively violent start his night has had.

Realizing he's staring, Adalwolfe adopts a charming smile despite how it tugs at his slowly healing split lip, racking his brain to come up with an actual response that isn't drooling.

"Right away, Serah. How can I service you this evening." It's a bloody miracle he doesn't waggle his eyebrows.
