[He pulls the lure out of the water, and holds onto the fishing lure is visible]
Alright, so this is a fishing rod! The part you hold onto is the rod, the string is a lure, and this - [indicates the hook that has some kind of bug hooked onto it] Is the bait and hook! When you fish, you wanna attach something to the hook that the fish will wanna eat- like bugs or small fish.

Okay. So the lure is like a fake food? And when they try to eat it, you hook 'em.
[The terminology is an awful lot like many of the tactical maneuvers he's learned, and it occurs to Finn belatedly that this might actually be what they were named after back when combat was all ground-focused and people actually had bodies of water nearby instead of being in space all the time.]

Anyway, you take the rod and you cast it, like this. [He imitates the motion of casting the lure out to the water, before pulling the lure back] Then, while the bait is in the water, you wait for a bite.
[Then, he holds the rod out to Finn]
Here, go ahead and try it.

Okay! What do I do if it bites? And how do I tell?
no subject
[Okay so it wasn't a perfect cast, but pretty good for the first try!]
Well you hold onto the rod. And first you might feel a few small tugs as a fish nibbles at the bait- and then a big tug when it tries to eat the whole thing.
Then when that happens, you reel the cast back in to you! That tends to be a bit of a fight, depending on how strong the fish is.

The first time he reels it in, it's too early and there's nothing on the line. The second time, he snags it in some seaweed. The third time, though, he feels the difference - there's something tugging on the line!]
I think I got it this time!
no subject
[But when his rod starts to tug and Finn says that? He can't help but get excited]
Yeah, looks like! Way to go! Try to reel it in now!
no subject
[He is not a natural at this, but he figured out how to reel against the tension quickly enough. If the fish were bigger it'd probably snap his line, but as he reels it in, it's a tiny little thing. Finn looks proud as he pulls it out of the water.]</small I got one! Look at it!
no subject
Aha, great job, Finn! I knew you could do it!
no subject
Probably not big enough to keep though, right? Do we throw it back?
