Hello, Captain! I suppose I have - tis nice to be able to fall back on the old ways to earn some coin. Do you well?

_{[ Kirk takes it happily, settling himself with the soft groan of pleasure of those who have been on their feet all day - and he had been, helping to build some of the structures the locals needed help with. It earned him a bit of their local currency, but he had mostly done it to keep himself occupied. ]}

Was that what you did professionally back home? Be a bard... or a minstrel?

I thought you just did family concerts.

I have done both - although there is little between them, at the end of the day! A minstrel is a wanderer, however, and that is what I have been most recently, travelling about and playing for my supper.

[ A wry smile ] In my youth I did. But that was a long time ago, and in happier times.

You mean counting since we got here, or back in your own world?

_{[ It was an important distinction, in his mind. His brows crinkled in concern at that last comment though. ]}

Things not going so well in your home world?

In my own world, yes. [ Maglor nods, adding wryly ]

Here I hardly know what to do with myself, in truth. So this is a welcome change in routine.

On the contrary - we have peace now, for the first time in a long time. And it will hopefully last a good many years.

I hope so too.

Haha, you and me have the same problem them. There's not nearly enough to keep me busy on the ships when we're between worlds. Beverly suggests a hobby, and so far all I've managed is sparring, working out, and tricking people into learning to play tri-dimensional chess with me.

Tri-dimensional chess? [ Maglor crooks a curious eyebrow ]

I have my music, of course - it has always been enough for me. But with my brother, and now my father here... I cannot afford to lose myself to the Song.

I get the feeling there's a capital "S" on the word "Song".

When I speak of the Song that way, I speak of the First Song, the Song of the world itself, what birthed it, and what forms it. The Great Music, if you like.

Hmmm, I'm not quite following. The First Song is the source of all music in your world?

Yes - but more importantly, it is the source of the world, itself.

Mm, you could call it... its underpinning? [ Maglor gropes for words to express concepts that he feels, more than speaks ] Its building blocks, perhaps?

It is why the greatest works of my people have always been done with and through Song, for so we touch the heart of creation. Everything has it's own melody, the song it wants to sing, it's part in the Great Music that both is the world and holds it together. And if you can hear it, you can influence it.
