[At long last, the fleet has arrived to a new planet. This means it's time for a mingle guys! Get in! ]

[Katie gasps, though not for reasons you'd think-- she rounds on Winter to tell him off for almost saying a dirty word. So rude!

But when she sees who it is, she breaks into a hopeful smile instead.] Mr Barnes! Are you feeling better?

[You're not gonna try to break her neck or anything because she heard that was a thing

Also she's awfully casual for a girl who just dropped out of the sky, and don't mind the dirt smudges on her face.]

[ It's been so long since he's seen Katie, he'd forgotten that she calls him 'Mr. Barnes' and not Winter. ]

A little better. Thank you.

[ Nope, no more trying to kill anybody. Just trying to avoid people overall since he tried to murder them.

He frowns at her, looking up to the tree that she just fell from, then back do her face. ]

You're not hurt, are you?

[flickerflash]

[Sam was very quick to point out it wasn't his fault, and Katie's a pro at accidentally hurting people herself. So his answer just makes her nod happily, lifting a hand to wipe one of the smudges from her cheek.]

Oh, terribly. I think I broke both my legs in that fall. See?

[She sticks out one perfectly fine leg with great solemnity.]

[ Well, somehow he very much doubts that. He gives her a frown, anyway. Children are super breakable, so she should be careful, even if she has nine lives and always lands on her feet!!

He looks at that leg, then back to her face. ]

How terrible. You may have to crawl back up that tree.

[flickerflash]

[Grin]

That's not very nice. You're meant to look after children with broken legs and buy them sweets until they stop crying.

{She's clearly very offended.]

[reconstitution]

Is that so? What kind of sweets are meant to help children stop crying?

[ Even though she's very clearly not crying and seems to be okay. ]

[flickerflash]

Oh. Hmm. [She hadn't thought that far ahead.] Well, I'm not sure. They might have all kinds of interesting things here.

Anything you could recommend?

[reconstitution]

I haven't really gone looking for sweets, but the food is good.

[flickerflash]

Well, if you don't know what sort of sweets there are, we should go looking around.

[reconstitution]

Do you think you can manage with those legs of yours?

[ That are clearly not broken, but he's teasing, anyway. ]

[flickerflash]

[She gives him a delighted look. He has a sense of humour, HOORAY.]

You know, I'm not sure. I shall just have to find out. If I can walk on broken legs, I bet I'd be very useful in terrible disasters, don't you think?

[reconstitution]

[ He's starting to un-bury his humor. It's just been hiding really, really deep down. Winter pushes himself off of the tree, waiting for Katie. ]

Very much. Let's go look at sweets.

[flickerflash]

[She dusts herself a little more, than skips forward to walk by him. She'd probably try holding his hand, but she's already worked out some people might not like that.]

Do you have a favourite kind of sweet?

[reconstitution]

[ Winter appreciates it, Katie, even if he doesn't say so. ]

I like pie an awful lot.

[flickerflash]

Pie! [She brightens.] Do you like apple pie? Or apricot crumble? What kinds of pie?

[reconstitution]

I've tried apple a few times, but not any other flavors.

[ Really, the flavor was mostly nostalgic, so he'd been content with it. ]

[flickerflash]

Then we can try them all! Come on! {She skips ahead a little. You were totally booking your afternoon with pie taste testing before this, right?]

[reconstitution]

You might have to help me finish them.

[ Well, he wasn't doing anything in particular before. He may as well spend his afternoon with Katie. At least he knows she's not afraid of him. ]

[flickerflash]

[It takes a lot to scare Katie. Of course, the bonus is she got the news given to her by Sam, who is eternally compassionate.]

That sounds like a tough job. I'll give it my best try.

[reconstitution]

I believe in you.

[ Really, what kid doesn't have room for sweets? ]

One of the restaurants should have pie, right?

[flickerflash]

I bet they all have pie. Even the ones that pretend they don't! They just want to have it all to themselves. [Really, who can blame them. Pie is delicious.]

Oh, but I found a place that likes to make meringue! I bet that would be a good place to start.

[reconstitution]

Oh. I'm not sure about that. Let's start where we know there's pie. Meringue sounds good.

[ He'll let her lead the way since she seems to know where they're going. ]

[flickerflash]

[She does. The place she's thinking of is what amounts to a tiny street cafe-- a walkway cafe?-- with a cheerful woman selling a cartload of small, handheld pies of all kinds of flavours. A distinct lack of meringue, though.]

Here! I wonder if any of these taste like blueberry.

[reconstitution]

I'm not sure, but we'll get a few different kinds to start. Does that sound okay?

[ He approaches the stand, handing the woman a handful of acorns for whatever pies that will buy the pair of them. ]

[flickerflash]

[Katie just grins in response, bouncing on her toes as the woman offers up a selection of pies.]

I wonder what alien pies taste like. [Spoilers: Pretty much like regular pies.] Do you want to choose first? Maybe we can find a nice place to sit out of the sun.
