So, I'm not totally sure I'm clear about how you know Jim from home? Just different ships?

Ah... not quite.

[Ironically, the ship is one of the few things that is the same.]

I don't know him personally - he's a figure from history class, for me. He was born about a hundred years before I was. And to make things more complicated, the Kirk here is also from a universe parallel to mine.

Sounds complicated, but normal for here. I have parallel universe friends here, too. Their friend actually crossed the dimensional barrier at home and I hung out with him for a day before he had to go back. Then his friends showed up here.

Mmm... It's not the first time I've encountered parallel universes either. It just makes it difficult to know what I can tell him sometimes.

Yeah, that's a hard space to navigate. Stuff you may not even think about could be a big deal.

Exactly. Fortunately we are bound by the same rules as Starfleet officers [However bad they both are at following those rules sometimes] so there is that understanding between us that if we refuse to share something, it's not personal.

Yeah. Obviously I don't know the Starfleet code, but having people around who you don't have to explain things to is really nice.

It certainly is - even if our histories are different, the basic principles we adhere to are the same.

So you're from parallel Jim's future? I hope things are going good.

[dancingmd]

Relatively.

[A vague answer she knows, but she'd prefer not to get into the upcoming war with the Dominion right now.]

I'll take that. I've heard some horror stories about what people's worlds are like.

[dancingmd]

[She nods.]

Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. We'll be fine, the Federation always finds a way through.

It's working out pretty well. We had some conflict but I think we worked through it. He can be a little Disappointed Dad sometimes.
