So, like a psychic plane?

[ To him it sounds like some sort of other dimension vastly different from their own, and for some reason the "walls" between said dimensions were weak where Anders was from. Calling them spirits and demons would be a logical sort of thing to go towards, especially in a more primitive society. ]

That must make it rough on anyone sensitive to it in your world. I suppose there's only so much you can do to block it out?

I suppose.

[A little simplistic, but it worked when Kirk hardly had a frame of refrence and Anders couldn't explain it.

What Kirk says gets a humorless chuckle out of Anders, his happy veneer slipping a little.]

Don't sleep? No, there's nothing to protect against it, it's not something we can control.

If something goes wrong, a mage gets possessed and then they get killed. Or, if they think you might get possessed, they 'save' you by severing your tie to the Fade, causing you to lose your ability to feel or dream or have aspirations of any kind. You're a husk of a person.

But there, that's the solution.

[It came out far more bitter than he'd intended and he dropped his gaze for it.]

It doesn't matter now, I suppose, there doesn't seem to be a Fade here or, at least, it's too far away to connect with. Whenever I dream these days, everything's simply...white. Empty. [He shrugs. Totally not a bother.]

[ Kirk listened quietly to him, frowning softly - not really at Anders, but at the words, at the idea that people were being saved by essentially destroying them. It was like in Earth's history, when people had viewed lobotomizing as a legitimate way to cure people. Even if it succeed, and that was rare enough, it turned people into little more than drooling husks. It didn't sit well with him, but he couldn't offer Anders much besides an ear to growl in and as much understanding as he was capable of.

Though something did catch him at the end, eyes flickering towards him. ]

You're a mage, aren't you?

Ha...am I that transparent? Yes, I suppose I am. I am a mage, have been since I turned twelve and set the family barn on fire by accident.

[And then his father had turned on him and he could still remember the look of pain and grief on his mother's face as he was forcibly dragged out of her arms by templars.]

Mages aren't treated very nicely back home. At least, not where I was. I hear it's better in one or two of the circles. [He shook his head.] But it's fine! After running away seven times, I managed to make the last one stick.

This is hardly a cheery conversation, would you like to change it to something else? We should be getting closer.
