Who: Tohru Adachi and YOU!
Broadcast: Video (to all)
Action: The Marsiva
When: Right now!
[The first thing that could be heard as the network feed clicked on was someone yawning rather audibly. This was followed quickly by the sight of a suited individual sitting up and stretching out his arms.]
Man, I haven't slept for that long in a while. Usually the guard-
[Adachi quickly cut himself off as he realized that he clearly was not where he had been when he fell asleep. Instead of the four plaster walls that he'd grown accustomed to, he now seemed to be in a large, spacious room filled with all sorts of amenities. He couldn't help but draw the comparison to Junes. But then... how the hell could he be back in Inaba?]
[His detective instincts started to kick in, despite their lack of recent use. First thing: assess yourself.]
[Adachi looked down and was surprised to see his old detective duds. The dark gray suit, white button shirt, and red tie all looked as good as new. Odd, considering how often he had worn this particular outfit.]
[Second, assess the environment.]
[Well, this was already partly done. He clearly was in a completely new environment. Could it be... the other world? That didn't seem plausible. He certainly didn't remember going near any TV, nor did he remember anyone coming along who could have possibly thrown him into one. Noticing a nearby monitor, Adachi got up out of the bunk and approached it. He placed his hand on the peculiarly cool screen and felt resistance. He clearly wasn't going inside this one. And that's when he turned and saw the large viewing bay window.]
What the heck?! It can't be!
[He appeared to be in outer space. Yet, somehow... this realization didn't unsettle him as much as he thought it would. In fact, once the initial shock had worn off, he almost seemed comfortable with this fact. But how? He returned to his initial bunk and went back to step one: assess yourself.]
Okay, it doesn't feel like I've been drugged. Though, if I'm really in the real world, then I shouldn't be able to...
[Sure enough, as Adachi concentrated and tried to summon him, he realized he couldn't.]
So I'm clearly in reality right now.
[He rubbed the back of his neck as he came to terms with just how surreal this was all seeming. And that's when he felt the soft bump, located behind his left ear.]
Eh? What is-
[Yet again, however, he seemed to already know what this bump meant. It was as if he'd always had this information stowed away, but he was only now rediscovering it.]
An "augment," huh?
[That's when he noticed the communicator located next to him. Picking it up, he inspected the device front to back. Just like before, he already seemed to know what it was and how to use it.]
Well then...
[Step three: Assess the situation. Adachi directed his attention to the screen in front of him.]
Um... hello? Anyone receiving on this thing?

But, um, probably not much chance of an easy drop-off, yeah.
no subject
[Like before, Adachi suddenly understands what's going on. This augmentation technology is really quite impressive.]
Oh, wait... I think I get it. It has to do with these "augment" things, am I right?
Ah heh, so I guess that means I'm pretty much stuck here doesn't it?
no subject
[...but before she can get so distracted with her rambling, she gives him an apologetic smile.]
Yep... That's what everyone's saying! I mean, there's a rumor that you can get out with hard work and good ratings, but we all know how that is going to go.
no subject
Hard work and good ratings, huh? So like a performance review? Are we going to be put to work or something?
[Certainly sounds like a prison. Well, more like work camp. Yet, none of these people seem to be "prisoners," least not in the typical sense. Nor do they seem like prison guards.]
no subject
[despite her previous analysis of the fleet and her conclusion that talking openly about magic would not end in anyone's heads exploding, she's still... a little nervous, when he asks like that.]
And it's less like a performance review, and more like a... reality TV show. I don't think you actually have to do anything, you just won't gain anything if you don't.
no subject
[Adachi's fishing to see just what exactly this girl means by magic. Back home, his powers could have been likened to "magic." He needs to find out just how similar this new reality and his old one were.]
A reality TV show? [Adachi started to get suspicious. First, "magic" and now a "reality TV show" this was starting to sound all too familiar. Yet, when he arrived he couldn't summon him, so there's no way they could be in the TV world, right?]
no subject
Yeah, so, I highly suggest going backwards in the network and reading what other people have said... But it sounds like, uh, we've all been brought here to be part of this program that plays across the galaxy. I'm not sure what we're supposed to be doing, but if we're entertaining enough we get good ratings, which will supposedly eventually get us out of here.
no subject
[Maybe there was some kind of trend to this? Some pattern? Some way to determine why Adachi was brought here all of the sudden.]
Oh, I see. So I can go back in this thing... [Adachi trails off as he presses a few buttons, investigating the communicator's features further. After a brief pause, Adachi speaks back up.]
So everyone else here was brought here in a similar fashion, and it looks like someone or something called Atroma is behind it all. Do you have any idea whose been here the longest? Or if anyone has ever actually earned enough "ratings" to leave?
[Investigator mode engaged. Good to see those years in the academy didn't go to complete waste. Need to establish some semblance of a motive, or reason for why someone would want to bring all these people together.]
no subject
[she looks like she's about to say something else, but she changes her mind. moving right along--]
There are some people that were here when the thing started... They woke up on their ships at the same time, unlike people like you and me... Who were just, uh, brought right to Marsiva over there. I don't know if anyone's ever actually left because of ratings, though...
no subject
[Again, maybe there was some kind of pattern to this coming and going. If this girl has experienced it multiple times, then she was likely his best clue in terms of figuring out if such a pattern exists.]
I see. So that means there are people who have been here longer than you? But everyone who is a part of this space-fleet-reality-show-thing is from somewhere else? No one is originally from "here." Wherever "here" is...
no subject
Yeah... I worry about that all the time. But there's not really anything I can do about it, so. [a shrug.] I'll just have to take it as it comes.
We've never met anyone native... That we know of. There are a couple of announcers who sound in-the-know, but who knows if they're even people.
no subject
Well, hey, no point in worrying about something like that right now. Best to enjoy life in this moment, right? But hey, if you ever feel like talking about it, I'm willing to listen.
[Now let's see if she takes the bait...]
Hmm... [It doesn't seem like Adachi will be able to make contact with whoever or whatever is in charge easily. Still, best to start digging now and see what comes up.] So these "announcers," what exactly do they announce?
no subject
[HA HA she will not. she bottles up her feelings on a good day. she'll talk schematics, but she's already wary of telling too much to quirky strangers...]
The announcers used to talk every Friday, but I think it's changed to Saturday... They say that people are being moved around, and usually a little bit about where we're going or what's going to be in the area. Kind of like... wacky, intergalactic tour guides.
no subject
[Clever girl. At any rate, Adachi won't push it any further at the moment. At the very least, he feels like he might have got his foot in the door. Maybe he can get her to open up with time.]
Tour guides huh? Are we able to... you know, communicate with them at all?
no subject
Um... Sure, Adachi. Nice to meet you.
[let's move on. let's talk about something she can deal with.]
No communications have been successful so far, even though they've... left the channels open for us to talk back. I don't know if it's going into a black hole, or if someone is actually listening somewhere...
no subject
Interesting. So they don't even have some sort of liaison for us to communicate with? How odd... [Damn. There's got to be some way to get a hold of whoever is in charge. Guess he'll just have to do some more digging on his own; though it may be hard to not arouse suspicion. Then, Adachi gets an idea.] Hey Krista, do you happen to know who has been here the longest?
no subject
[a good question. she looks like she's thinking back... who was on that first batch...?]
...Tekhetsio has been here the whole time. He's a friend of mine. He usually just goes by "Tek". A guy named Crowley has also been here since the start. I can't think of anyone else off the top of my head, but I bet they could list the other people who showed up first.
no subject
A guy named Tekhetsio... [Was he saying that right?] And another guy named Crowley... Okay, well maybe one of them can help me get a better idea of what's going on. You have been a huge help though Krista-chan. Thank you!
[Ack! He'd added the honorific again. Well, force of habit. Hopefully she won't freak out again. Why was this girl so sensitive about names anyways?]
no subject
Uh, hey, no problem! Good luck getting oriented, man.
no subject
I think it's going to take me a little bit, but I guess I'll have to grow accustomed to it all sooner or later. Guess I'll see you around then? [He did end that last part as sort of a question. I mean, how likely was he to bump into her again? He couldn't be sure at the moment, but it might be smart to keep in contact with her.]
no subject
[she'll turn off the video feed. phew. social interaction complete.]
