He wants to be outside, because he knows the minute he has to go back, it's back to hiding. It's a selfish want to experience it fully before the unknown. Part of him feels a little guilty for over-indulging, but he's earned the right, hasn't he?
The breeze is warm and refreshing. Winter's attention flits back to Steve, and he offers a tilt of his head. ]
It's nice out.

[ he nods; the breeze is good and the air is clean, it smells like the candies sold at the little stalls and the salt of the seawater. If asked, Steve would have said Winter has earned this and much more, so much more than this world can offer, more than perhaps Steve can try and give.
He can still try.
he passes him the little drawing pad so he can look at the sketch more properly. ]
it's been a while.

Winter takes the drawing pad carefully, committing Steve's current drawing to memory. The soft lines of clouds and the sharper silhouettes of cresting waves as they come closer. There's a bird flying, and it's idyllic. He can imagine it would look much better in color.
He hands it back carefully. ]
Looks like you handled it just fine.

[ said with a small smile. both are equally relaxing, too, a chance to work away the burdens. the punching bag is for another kind of worrying, the gnawing memories and sadness of the war mixed with the current worries. for days likes these, when Steve only wants to clear his head for an hour or two, sketching and swimming are more than enough ]
Think we'll stay here long?

[ They were at the sickly moon for far longer than any of the previous planets they'd been to, but it could have been a fluke, or the Atroma had a reason for it.
They can't possibly know how thought out every goddamn event that happens in the Fleet is. ]

[ he has been here for such a little while, compared to the rest of them. it leaves him second-guessing, at times, about everything that came before. There is so much that happened after all, just knowing of the other Steve is disturbing enough. There is so much that happened here that he can't and probably will never understand ]
Was it longer in-between each stop?

[ He's just paranoid, nothing more. ]

[ he shifts on the sand. from all that he's been through, he learned never to let those things slide without at least mentioning them and taking them into account. winter's instincts are not very different than steve's when it comes to these changes ]
we should stock up the ships; the fruit won't last us more than two weeks but we can try to get meat. maybe some fish.

[ It's a good habit to get into in case they run into planets like the sickly moon again. Easy enough to barter or trade items for a decent amount of currency if there's a surplus.
Really, it pays to be prepared for anything. ]

[ said with a smile that he doesn't bite back. his crew is lucky, Steve will never think otherwise. Winter knows survival better than most people, certainly better than Steve. Whenever he visits the Heron, he is mostly there to see him, he is not overly familiar with his crew but he does hope they are smart enough to appreciate him.
he may have changed but the core is still the same, he will never be anything but good in Steve's eyes, the young man who would finish his fights for him at times, who kept him safe more often than not. ]
You know, we could try fishing by ourselves. We have the time.

He's not acquainted with some of his crew as well as he should be, but he's not going to push them into it, either. It's not escaped Winter that Shinji avoids him like the plague. That's his business.
Winter looks up at Steve quizzically. ]
I guess it's worth a shot. Not sure how useful I'll be.

Haven't really tried either, but between us two we might catch a few.
[ how many super soldiers does one need to catch a fish. ]

[ He will never be convinced that these friendships are something that he's earned already. ]

[ and it is such an ordinary things to do, between friends, go fishing like this. they could use ordinary in their lives, Steve things, even forced ordinary routines as they have so few days of peace. ]
no subject
[ Hopefully it's not too expensive or too much of a hassle to get one. ]

[ and there is a smile here because this is going to happen and it's been quite a while since either of them had something to look forward to. ]
I have a good feeling about this.
[ hey maybe they'll catch their dinner. right? right. ]

There should be someone in the market willing to rent a boat and equipment.
[ He's glad that Steve wants to do this together, but at the same time, he's not to the point of being over the moon. Spending time with Steve is good, and it's proven that just being around the guy helps him remember. ]
