I have an important request. I need someone who can make cheese. Do cheese makers have an old timey name like cobblers and haberdashers or are those only for clothes? Anyway, calling all of those.

Cheese doesn't seem to be a thing here from what I can tell, but we're just one ingredient away from some really great pizza. I have no idea what cheese requires other than cows or goats or something. I grew up so close to Wisconsin, but I feel like I learned so little.

I would also accept alternative cheese. I know there were vegan kinds made out of hopes and dreams or something I assume. I can pay you or share the finished pizza or do something in trade if I had skills. I could beat someone up for you maybe. [She's not going to do that. Probably.] We'll work it out.

Not bad. Maybe we can take turns at it? We could do that thing where one person stands behind the other and helps swing the other's arm. [Like in the movies. Smiling.]

[ 'one person', 'other', it's sweet, how she tries to preserve his pride. it's a lost cause, he's a grown man who can't throw a ball, there is no pride, only shame. hopefully he won't embarrass himself too badly in front of her but if he will -- at least he's cute? and they'll have a fun memory, which is the whole point of today.

he throws an arm lightly around her shoulder ]

[She cuddles into him, entirely glad for this. For him. For all the time they get together. For her incredibly silly man who doesn't seem to recognize how beautiful, caring, and talented he is.] Yes, other.

[There's a throwing stall not far away.]

You know I was on the baseball team in the prison. Yeah, that was a thing.

Yeah? What position did you play? D'you have a team name?

[ it's refreshing, to hear about something positive about that place, that doesn't have to do with reid. ]

[No Reid anywhere near baseball!] The team was The Flying Knights and I was the shortstop. Are you impressed yet?

[ you mean they have that in common? shocking! ]

Good name! [ he'd be impressed about her position but, you know, that requires actually knowing what it means. baseball is the one where you hit balls with a bat and there's a dude with a glove, and a pitcher, right? ]

I'm betting I could have said "quarterback" and gotten the same reaction. [She laughs lightly.] It was something to do back then anyway.

That's football. [ with certainty. he watches movies!! ] It was something you liked. I bet you can get teams going here, too - at least while we're on the planet. People'd probably love a game.

[ hopefully cisco feels the same way as him and would keep him company on the bleachers but otherwise he'll just watch and cheer for kitty! and...probably most of his friends if he's perfectly honest with himself. they're all athletes. ]

[That earns a laugh.] I don't know about all that. I think that might be more work than it's worth for me. Besides, I'm kind of into all the climbing and laying with heights that I do here when you're not around to be worried about it.

Worrying about you doing it's like worrying about Kara doing it.

[ he shrugs, it's silly. kara can fly, kitty can air walk, they're awesome that way. they'd be just fine no matter how high they go. he worries about them in a lot of ways, but that's not one of them. does that mean he wants to go up with them? absolutely not. ]

What do you like about it?

Mm, there's a rush. [Something she is a little embarrassed and even ashamed to admit she misses from her days of constant fighting.]

And a sense of freedom which is harder to come by these days. [What with being the property of various overlords whether in a literal prison under a dome or in a reality show with a tether.]

That sounds great.

[ he wishes something gave him a sense of freedom. the closest he got was restoring kara's powers but they're done with that now. the next rebellion against the atroma he can think of is getting home and that's going to take a long time because he's not even close to figuring out a prototype. all he has is an ever growing pile of theories he's not even sure he's getting remotely right because much as he does love physics? he's not a physicist. he's a programmer. and he can't even do that because the network resists him at every turn. he feels mentally trapped which, to him, is so much worse than being physically trapped.

he'd give a lot to get a sense of freedom from being high up. all he gets is an overwhelming urge to pee his pants. ]

It is. I'm sorry we can't share it. [She kisses his cheek.] It's really a false sense of freedom if it makes you feel any better. [She kisses his cheek. What he did for Kara was a real taste of freedom at least.] Want to do this throwing game thing?

It doesn't. [ he wants her to have a real sense of freedom. he wants all the best things in the world for her -- even if he'll end up envying her some. he smiles and squeezes her hand in return. what we did, he corrects wordlessly. kitty was integral to the process. sure, he would've gotten there on his own, but who knows how long that would've taken him. kitty helped, jim helped, other people helped without even realizing, just by talking to him and sparking ideas in his head. he wants to take the credit for this - he wants desperately to be of use, to be invaluable, to be necessary - but he can't. this was their accomplishment. and even without him, kara could've found someone to do this for her. after long enough, he's sure kitty would've come up with the idea on her own, if no one else did. ]

Yeah - let's do it.

[She drops some acorns with the guy and is handed a ball which she puts in Winn's hand. There are more chances waiting for them after that one.] You're up. [And loved and appreciated and anything else she can convey with a look and a touch.]

Right - [ he passes the ball around from hand to hand, assessing its weight, absentmindedly going through every physical law that might be of any potential use here.

come on, arms, don't fail him now. he leans in to kiss her. ]

For luck.

[ he takes a breath, stares at his target, stretches his arm -- and throws.

the ball falls short. ]

Need more luck.

[ arm, why. why you do this. has he not been working you out with jim? what do you want from him? oh you wanna practice throwing to get good at throwing? such a diva. ]

Well, I really like the way you found for transferring luck so you're...in luck. [Smiling and pulling him closer for another kiss. There's no disappointment in her feelings as they kiss. Only happiness to be with him. Throwing isn't that important. It's just supposed to be fun.] Me next?

[ he gives her another quick kiss once they part and smiles. ]

Go ahead.

[ he can't help but be disappointed that he didn't even make it all the way, but he doesn't care that much, especially when he doesn't feel any judgment from kitty. he doesn't have to be the best at everything and the best at anything athletic he'll never be. unless typing becomes a sport. ]

[She throws. She scores. She kisses him in celebration if not for luck!] You're up, slugger. [Little nuzzle. How sick are they making the booth runner at this point?]

[ well, he hasn't shoved a prize at them and told them to go yet so winn would say - not nearly sick enough! he takes the ball, and kisses her thoroughly. you know. for more luck! ]

Right -- any tips?

[Luck transference is her favorite. She gives him a satisfied and loving look with her answer.] Be your awesome self and just have fun with it?

Easy enough -- he shoots --

[ he stares down his target -- stretches his arm -- and does about the same as he did last time only more off to the right. ]

He misses! Whoo! [ totally what he meant to do yup! ]

[Kitty claps for him.] You're loosening them up to make it easy on me. [And she means it. The biggest win would be for him to have fun no matter how objectively well he's doing.]

You caught me, always a gentleman.

[ it's not particularly hard for him to have a good time. he doesn't feel judged so he can deal much better with his sucking. ]

You are. [And that she says with complete sincerity.] Two more balls. I should probably get my kiss in before I try again. [The slowest but best game ever. And absolutely no judgment sneaks in with this kiss. She's entirely happy with what's going on. Maybe just a little nervous that he isn't but otherwise she's good.]
