Winter & Vision's (not so) Excellent Adventure

[ This thread is going to serve both as a canon update to post Captain America: Civil War for Winter and Vision, but also be used as a monthly catch-all with prompts. ]

[ It's been a few weeks since they've landed, so Winter's finally gotten over most of his initial uneasiness. Enough to finally venture into the forest for a hike and get the lay of the land. He's familiar with the beach and the markets, and he's heard things about the forest and a certain tree, so he needs to see for himself if the rumors are true.

It's relatively peaceful, and he hasn't come across anyone else yet. He's making his way around a fallen tree when an animal jumps out of a nearby bush and startles him. Winter stumbles back, and his immediate reaction is to reach out with his left hand to steady himself. Unfortunately it's still broken, so it doesn't cooperate like it's meant to. Which means that he trips and falls. Down a steep hill. Only having one functioning arm means he raises his right to shield his head until he can manage to slow down or run into something. Which is exactly what he does before his head smacks solidly against a hard surface. ]

[Meanwhile, the Vision is similarly engaged in heading toward the tree to investigate it. He’s heard you need someone’s hand to hold in order for the magic to work, but his curiosity has the better of him and he’d like to observe it in action first. A scuffle down below his flight path catches his attention, and he swoops into the forest to see what’s going on just in time to see Winter, of all people, taking a tumble down a steep hillside. He rushes over to try and intercept the man before he seriously hurts himself, and in his rush he miscalculates his own density and slams down hard enough that Winter smacks his head against the Vision instead of catching himself safely.

Oops.

The impact is enough to snap the Vision’s head back and hit it against the tree he’d been trying to prevent Winter from hitting. So now there are two enhanced individuals knocked out on the forest floor. How very impressive.]

It's really nothing.

[ Besides, dames shouldn't have to pay for their meal if they were invited. ]

What's your favorite food?

[reconstitution]

Meatloaf, maybe? I don't know. I can remember liking it as a kid, anyway.

[ He shrugs. ]

It's been such a long time, I'm not sure.

I'm a huge fan of Chocolate Pecan Pie. Best dessert in the galaxy. Well, the galaxy I'm from. I don't know about this one. What if there's something better? But then again, what could be better?

[reconstitution]

I don't think I've had that. I like trying new things, though..

[takingkarabusiness]

Okay, well, first chance we get, you're trying a slice.

And then I'm probably eating the rest of it, hashtag sorry-not-sorry.

[reconstitution]

Sounds good to me.

[ Wait, hold that thought.. ] What's a hashtag?

[takingkarabusiness]

...Do you know what the internet is?

[reconstitution]

I know what the internet is. I've used it a few times to get information when I needed it.

[takingkarabusiness]

I have to check. People are from all over, here.

A hashtag is like—it started out as a way to index things? So you make a post on the internet with "hashtag opinions" and then you can click on it, and it'll show all the posts that other people have made that also have "hashtag opinions".

But it's kind of grown into its own thing, which is a really cool part of human languages. It's hard to explain. But when it's typed out it's the little pound sign.

[reconstitution]

Ah. So that's what that nonsense was about. I suppose it's impressive in its own right.

Feel free to ask for clarification about the stuff I say. I know what it's like to feel out of your element, but I'm not always really good at keeping track of what I say.

[ coming up on the restaurant probably. it's... rustic, in keeping with the theme of the planet, but it seems likely to have a hot meal ]

I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

[ The air smells pretty damn good the closer they get to the restaurant, and once they're in, he finds a corner table with a good vantage point of the door. Winter takes the seat with the wall at his back. ]

That's a dangerous offer, Winter. I'll behave myself, though. "How to eat a normal amount in public" was something I had to learn.

Big appetite or do you expend a lot of energy?

[takingkarabusiness]

Both. I was back to a pretty normal amount when my powers were suppressed, but here I'm hungry literally all of the time.

[reconstitution]

I know what you mean. The food on the ships doesn't really sate the hunger very well.

[takingkarabusiness]

Yeah. Protein cubes, but not a lot else. It's soooo annoying. Do you eat a lot?

[reconstitution]

I try to. I have a fast metabolism.

[takingkarabusiness]

Me too, but I'm an alien.

[reconstitution]

Supersoldier. Or, whatever HYDRA's version of that is.

[takingkarabusiness]

[ she doesn't know anything about his world's politics, but she matches what she thinks his tone is—somber, respectful ]

Is that how you got the arm?

[reconstitution]

It is. I lost mine along the way. They thought they were doing me a favor.

[takingkarabusiness]

Well... It can't be all bad?
