Winter & Vision's (not so) Excellent Adventure

Who: Winter, Vision, & You
Broadcast: n/a
Action: Forest, planetside
When: July 9th

[ This thread is going to serve both as a canon update to post Captain America: Civil War for Winter and Vision, but also be used as a monthly catch-all with prompts. ]

[ It's been a few weeks since they've landed, so Winter's finally gotten over most of his initial uneasiness. Enough to finally venture into the forest for a hike and get the lay of the land. He's familiar with the beach and the markets, and he's heard things about the forest and a certain tree, so he needs to see for himself if the rumors are true.

It's relatively peaceful, and he hasn't come across anyone else yet. He's making his way around a fallen tree when an animal jumps out of a nearby bush and startles him. Winter stumbles back, and his immediate reaction is to reach out with his left hand to steady himself. Unfortunately it's still broken, so it doesn't cooperate like it's meant to. Which means that he trips and falls. Down a steep hill. Only having one functioning arm means he raises his right to shield his head until he can manage to slow down or run into something. Which is exactly what he does before his head smacks solidly against a hard surface. ]

[Meanwhile, the Vision is similarly engaged in heading toward the tree to investigate it. He’s heard you need someone’s hand to hold in order for the magic to work, but his curiosity has the better of him and he’d like to observe it in action first. A scuffle down below his flight path catches his attention, and he swoops into the forest to see what’s going on just in time to see Winter, of all people, taking a tumble down a steep hillside. He rushes over to try and intercept the man before he seriously hurts himself, and in his rush he miscalculates his own density and slams down hard enough that Winter smacks his head against the Vision instead of catching himself safely.

Oops.

The impact is enough to snap the Vision’s head back and hit it against the tree he’d been trying to prevent Winter from hitting. So now there are two enhanced individuals knocked out on the forest floor. How very impressive.]

I've had more experience with medical things here than I have done most of my life. [He tends to avoid medical equipment at all costs.]

Memories that aren't yours? [The phrasing strikes him as odd. Surely Vision would say "I remember it" otherwise. He's had too much experience with talking about memories to not latch onto it.]

Not fully mine, no. One of the AI I was created from was present for it all, and I retain fragments--all that's left of him, really.

[JARVIS was the one of his "fathers" he'd never met, yet also the one he identifies most strongly with.]
grandstanding: (Sounds like a volvo with a gunrack)

It sounds ... complicated. [Among many other things. Creating beings of artificial intelligence, retaining memories that aren't your own... the Vision's whole existence, really.]
unbearablynaive: (inquiry)

[He's not wrong.]

The upside is a great deal of information about various technological research processes, even if much of the original data is lost. I imagine that's why I was made an Engineer.

[Erik nods, filing that away.]

The assignments do seem to skew towards natural or learned talent, from what I've seen.
unbearablynaive: (geared up)

For the most part. There are some exceptions. [It's very useful to have Tony in communications, for example, but not perhaps what he would have chosen.] Do you find yours to match your previous skillset?
grandstanding: (I can't stand this indecision)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-08-02 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
As far as the other roles go? Yes, I would. I wouldn't call myself an engineer by trade-- [Because his only trades are Nazi-hunting and mutant revolutionist.] --but I've certainly used my powers along such lines before.

[He smiles very lightly.]

I suppose it would be unbalanced if they gave all of us the Security augment, wouldn't it?
grandstanding: (I read your thesis and it sucked)

Perhaps if this was intended to be an interstellar army draft. [He says it flippantly, but perish the thought. He still has his suspicions about why the augments are divided up into distinct groups.]

Though I understand attacking forces have been rare.
unbearablynaive: (alight)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2016-08-04 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[He catches the tone and nods in agreement; if it were with the purpose of forming an army, he imagines things would be very differently organized.]

I've only had the one experience where we were attacked, and that was ship-to-ship combat rather than hand-to-hand. There weren't any casualties, either, except for the side effects of being driven into a nebula. The war games of the toxic moon were the most action I've seen outside of that incident.
grandstanding: (So glad we've almost made it)

[He gives a short nod at Vision's description of the inter-ship combat.]

As far as conflict goes, the Fleet seems very light.

It is, yes. Even the recent trouble with the Winter Soldier lasted only a few hours.
grandstanding: (Yes everyone here seems competent)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-08-07 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
A few hours was enough, I think. [Considering the damage done.]

He seems improved.

Oh, I won't argue with that. [Either of the points.] I don't know if he's approached Charles about removing his triggers, but that would go a long way toward healing him.

[Erik tilts his head briefly, surprised to hear Vision bring it up in such a matter-of-fact way. People tend to hesitate around this far more.]

He has. Charles tells me that it's done.
unbearablynaive: (come on now)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2016-08-09 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Recent events have highlighted its importance, if nothing else. That and he's more in tune with what can be done to the mind than many others are.]

That's excellent to hear, and I hope it remains that way. I cannot predict the interference an augment might provide, but any progress is good progress.
