[ Video/Intro ] Second Lease on Life

[ Itachi's been tinkering with the video feed. He kind of gets it. But he accidently turns it on while just trying to use the camera function to pick confetti out of his long, black hair. A red eye stares back. ]

...Who knew the afterlife would throw me a welcoming party. [ Because really, where else would he have gone to? He's buried in the sky, among stars. His fingers bat at his hair more, getting the rest of the glitter out. He'll probably be sparkly for a couple of days. However, his eyes catch sight that he is recording... and his expression softens, before going flat. He's got an incredibly similar face to someone else on board. ]

Ah. I've been caught. [ He doesn't say anything more--but the camera shows it moving away from his face before shutting off completely. ]

[Huh, a stranger on the bridge. Stefan was about to write him off as a friend (because visitors aren't uncommon), but the confetti makes him hard to mistake for anyone else. Carefully, Stefan approaches with a slight wave. No handshakes just yet; he's learned to let the other person initiate those.]

Hey. Welcome to the crew.

[ He's shaking what he hopes is the last of the confetti out of his hair. He looked to the approaching man with red eyes, looking over him with attentive flickers of the eyes. ]

[ When Stefan gives him the greeting, Itachi offers a small bow in return. ]

...Thank you. [ Another member of the Paisley, he assumes. ] Your hospitality is welcomed.

[He gives a quick, hasty bow - but when Stefan takes another look at Itachi, he furrows his brow. This guy looks familiar, even though they've never met. Huh.]

No problem. I'm Stefan Salvatore, and the medic aboard this ship. If you need healing, just let me know.

[Also the first mate, but details.]

A medic... [ His eyes light up a bit with interest. Medics had always impressed him back home. He always wished he could do something more along those lines... but instead, he just ended up a trump card for battle. ] I'll be sure to keep that in mind.

I've been given an augment as personnel support, as a counselor. So...

I'm not sure of how much help I will be... but I suppose if you need anything... I will do my best.

[ Oh--his name, of course. ] My name is Uchiha Itachi.

Hey, it's okay. You'll figure out your role here soon enough, and personnel doesn't always mean "counselor."

[As he's learned the hard way; whether that means photographer, off-beat advice, or even teacher, it's still the most flexible augment around.]

Wait, Uchiha? Like... related to Sasuke Uchiha?

[ How many people knew his brother? Either he'd left one hell o an impression (whether good or bed), or had become quite the social butterfly. Then again, people also tended to be drawn to Sasuke for one reason or another. Could be anything, really. ]

...That's correct. [ He folds his arms over his stomach. ] Sasuke is... my younger brother.

If he's done anything to wrong you... I will take full responsibility in his stead. [ The usual disclaimer. ]

[Wait, what?

Stefan turns his head so Itachi can't see his smile - but Y'Allah, apologies? What does that guy get up to?]

No, no, you don't - [deep breath] Sasuke's done nothing.

I mean, I get why you'd think so, but seriously, he's fine. We're fine.

[ You can actually see the relief on his face. He nods his head. ] So he hasn't caused you trouble... I'm glad to hear it.

But yes. We're related. [ A beat. ] ...Are you two... friends?

[ He may or may not look a little bit skeptical. ]

I don't think he'd use that word, but yeah.

[Stefan is nothing but honest, even if he's amused at that mental image. He can also get the relief - seriously, he knows Sasuke. He also remembers Blendergate.]

We're more... book club acquaintances? I'll bring books over and once we're both done reading them, we'll talk about it. Nothing special.

...Book club... [ No. No. NO. That's too cute. Two people sharing books and talking about them... his Sasuke discussing literature and... ]

[ He doesn't know what kind of face he's making. His thoughts are all jumbled with images of the two talking casually and easily with one another, with smiles on their faces. There are probably no smiles. But it's nice to think of. ] I see. Ah...

That's good. [ Damn this slight brother complex. Slight. ] I'm glad. You're practically a saint for dealing with him.

[A shiver runs through Stefan's spine. He must've said something wrong, but as he mentally replays that conversation, he can't think of anything.

He does, however, make a slight face at the 'saint' mention. Reminds him too much of his own older brother.]

Thanks, but he's not that bad once you stop and listen.

Perhaps as an older brother... it's more difficult to see what others see.

...But what kind of older brother would I be, if I didn't make fun of him from time-to-time? [ Older bro code. ]

More than ever, Stefan's starting to miss his own big bro. Damon must've teased him mercilessly for the same reasons.]

Touche. [He laughs.] I was the same with my sister back home, and even if he grumps about it? I'm sure it'll mean a lot to him.

I suppose we'll see. [ He nodded his head towards him. ] Do you... have any suggestions, for a new arrival?

I don't know about suggestions, but I can tell you what I wished I'd known. How long were you on the Marsiva?
