[Takeshi's very focused this month; he's been trying to keep things in line and work on being a good captain! Gendry is super annoying and he's got a weird triangle man in his ship apparently (and a blue lady, but what's new), but hey! New people! Gotta make good impressions. He moves to comment on the fleet's feed, partly toward his crew at first, but then to people at large. It's a little funny, because he's got crayons and papers around, kids drawings hung up in the background, which is a bit funny in contrast to his serious expression.]

Hi! I'm Takeshi of the SS Golden! I was just made captain; I'll do my best t'be a good captain, even if I never been one before. I don't wanna let Miss Hera down.

I was gonna ask people on the Golden if they wanna help make the ship nicer; I'm gonna use some of my money - I don't use my money for a lot of stuff... and I can make things a little better, especially the kitchen...! If you can help work on parts of the ship so we can get better and better stuff, let me know! We can make it a kitchen with more things in it, or more shuttles, or more room...

... We don't got any pilots, which is kinda bad. We can't pilot things as good without pilots. But we got a lab and lots of guns!

Make sure you got a gun and you practice with it, make sure you're real good with your aim and you know how to carry it!

[He thinks that's good enough.

To the remainder of the fleet, he has an inquiry!]

I know I still got a lot t'learn! Do you guys got anything to say for someone trying to be a good captain?

Listen to your crew. Hear them out when they bring their troubles or their advice to you, they'll respect you more for that. [If things were different, he'd add that if Takeshi meant to lead, then he'd have to put some distance between himself and his crew, because one day he'd have to sacrifice one of them for the good of the others, but that advice doesn't seem necessary right now.]

And you'd best have a loud voice.

It is rather admirable that you are seeking advice so soon; I think that is the sign of a good captain already.

[ someone who looks like a child but doesn't necessarily act like one could be any number of things, in barriss's experience, but it's the seriousness of this boy paired with the drawings in the background that catch her off guard. but she doesn't want to come off as offensive, so she waits until she's rationalized it to herself before responding. she's apparently not far from the landing piers, sitting on a particularly sandy stretch of beach when she replies.

and he totally has a green lady to go with that blue one now. ]

Hello Captain, I'm one of your new crew. Barriss Offee, at your service. [ a polite nod of her head. ] I think I may be the one responsible for the lab, actually, if I'm understanding these mandatory implants correctly.

[He gives a sharp, focused nod. He's very used to listening, to making sure he's got all the information he knows he's gotta have. When he was in Team Tokyo, it was important to know the mission; if you don't know, it could kill you. And in the Tranquility? You had to pay attention to it. Every jump was a potential for death, and don't even get him started on malfunctions or what happened before the ship crashed...

He tries to be his most careful.]

Yessir! I know m'little, but I listen real good.

[And for whatever it matters, Takeshi's tone is quite strong.

If people do stupid stuff, I'll tell them, too. We gotta all work together to be strong.

Are you good with labs? With all the stuff inside a lab? Your augment should help, but sometimes it's still hard; I know how to take care of the guns and shoot safely, but I still gotta practice my aim and learn other stuff about security...!

It seems as though you have it well in hand. [The boy's smart, at least. He'll grow into his role as captain, Jon's certain, though he's still got his reservations. No doubt the Atroma thought this would make for great ratings, he thinks sourly.]

Not everyone will agree with your decisions all the time, nor will they always appreciate being told they've done "stupid stuff", [aw, look at him getting the hang of this slang thing] and some will be loud about it. [Looking at you, Janos Slynt.] But if you think it's right, stand fast by it. Mayhaps in time they'll understand. [Probably don't start executing people when they don't understand, though.]

That is very true. Those who believe they do know it all often do not make very good leaders, I have found.

[ freckles... it's so sweet and earnest that barriss doesn't have it in her to tell him they're intentional tattoos she's added to her face for life milestones. if he really is just a youngling, a very mature child, she's going to have no problem being as overprotective of him as she needs to be. maybe this is her jedi mission here. and if it is, she doesn't mind. ]

Some of the technology will take some getting used to, but in my home galaxy, I was trained as a Healer and had to serve as a field medic during battle more than once, so I think I'll figure it out.

Are you... comfortable with weapons?

I know. Someone was already a big stupid jerk just 'cus I'm captain.

I don't think he's very smart, though. Maybe 'cus he spends too much time being mean to learn stuff.

How come you know so much about being a captain? Are you one?

That's 'cus they don't listen to anything and they miss the important stuff. People who try to be on their own do it, too... They leave thinking they can do everything by themself, and it means they're not gonna live real long.

[The apartment... Well. A lot of snobby, awful, or otherwise rude people from the apartment would go out on their own thinking they'll be alright -- Takeshi never saw those people again. He figures that their brains probably exploded.

[A pause, as he considers her question in earnest.]

Mmmhmm! I'm comfortable with my gun. I didn't have one before I came here, but I had my powersuit, so I was real used to fighting things already before now.

[it's a little frightening how accurate that is, especially coming from someone so young, but Tempest knows better than to underestimate someone based merely on their age or appearance. And it isn't as though she wasn't young when she learned how cruel the world was, either]

Either that or they find themselves forced into working with others. [she tips her head] On that, I speak from experience.

And I am tactical support. Whatever that may mean, as I have been told it is not necessary?

I'm sorry to hear that you've had to fight things, but relieved that you're not getting thrown into things blind. [ he seems far too young to be in battles, but considering her order and the army they lead, she has exactly zero room to talk. ]

I don't have much experience with guns, myself, but I've trained in sabers since I was a child myself. Is there really going to be much need for guns here?

Well, I think you're doing well enough. [For a baby.

The question catches him off-guard, and it takes him a moment to answer:] I'm not a captain in the fleet. But I was Lord Commander of the Night's Watch before I came here, and that was almost like being a captain, only without a ship. [He's just not going to mention how it ended.]

[She won't lie, it certainly hurt her pride a bit that a child got made captain over her, then again Mystique hadn't made much an effort to really interact with her crew members or putting in a bid for the rank. Though if she was to be stuck on this ship then she was wanting to make it as suitable for her as possible.] You do have back up as you need it, Takeshi.

Who says it's not important? Everyone's jobs are important!

Well that's disturbing. [ horrifying even, but barriss is all about the understatement. ]

If anything like that happens again, I want you to know that you have my aid if you need it, though. Nobody should have to fight alone.

[ especially not a child. she was so much older than he seems when she started fighting, but she still wishes it had been years later. ]
