If anyone - for whatever reason - wants some novelty fridge magnets, there is a sponsor crate of them on the Heron. You can take as many as you want, though there isn't that much variety.

I will note at the outset that no, there are no alphabet pieces.

[Along with this rather brief message is attached a photo of the crate's contents. Half the magnets seem to be little cartoon planets. The other half are... well... magnets.]

[Anyone inclined to visit the Heron to take up this exciting offer - or just to visit - will find Erik leaning against the crate in the cargo hold. He has a number of the magnets suspended in the air above one hand, and every few minutes he flicks his fingers, sending one flying into the hull wall.

The crate itself is emblazoned with the message "To the most ATTRACTIVE guy on the Fleet! - Magnecessities". Maybe that's part of why he looks faintly irritated.

Yes. I take it you're not from our reality.

As far as we've been able to suss out, I'm either definitely not from your reality. Or, at the very least, from a couple of decades later on. 2016, for me.

No one else seems to be from our point in time, so it does make it hard to tell.

You've discussed this with Hank?

At length. We're on the Blameless together.

There seems to be a range of related realities where the same people appear, but the circumstances change.

Alternate universes. It happens. Even back home, it happens.

I'm familiar, having been in a place like this before. I never encountered anyone from a different version of my own universe then, however.

Kinda freaky, isn't it? Just be glad you haven't had to meet an alternate version of yourself, yet. I hear that's extra unnerving.

I've already met enough multiples of people to know I wouldn't enjoy it. [And he suspects no one else would, either.]

I've been lucky, so far. Looks like everyone's other universes don't have versions of me. Maybe I'm unique.

Yes. But in our encounters with other worlds, we seem to be unique in being from the 1970s, and every other related reality is further along by at least two decades.

But what makes you so certain it's a different reality, and not just an earlier point in the same?

[ -- kate isn't convinced of her own argument. in fact, it's most likely a different reality. she knows that from talking with hank. but she just wants to play devil's advocate and gather a few more pieces of information as she does.

Certain details mentioned about our lives in other realities that do not align with our own.

Like one of those 'find the seven differences' puzzles in the backs of lame magazines.

I'm not familiar with those. But yes.

Some differences are significant enough to make it relatively certain.

What? They don't have lame magazines in the 70s?
