[ A pause, before he sketches. His drawing skills are not actually awful, due to the fact that diagrams were a heavy part of his studies. ]

A girl named Wrath. She brought rainbows wherever she went. And then . . .

[Awww, cute! She grins and bumps Charles's shoulder lightly with her own once he's done sketching.]

They decided to take a walk on the moon! [She adds a moon-like landscape.]

You realize now I'm thinking of the logistics of breathing on the moon.

[ He adds some helmets. ]

You're very practical, Charles. I think there should be jet packs, too.

[Adding those in.]

Why jet packs?

The question you really need to ask yourself is "why not jetpacks?"

I can't say I have a great fondness for them.

What did jetpacks do to you?

Erik likes to fly. I'm not a fan.

[Wrath regards their little picture, then backs it up to remove the jetpacks.]

So they had... hoverboards.

[Like skateboards, but floaty. She adds those. They don't go that high. And are still fun. Pleased with herself, she also adds a little cartoon of Erik in his #1 Baker hat flying around with a jetpack in the distance.]

Hm? No. I don't know what that is. Erik can use his powers to fly. Quite dramatically, I might add.

Hoverboards are like. Um... boards? That you stand on. And they hover just a little off the ground, so you're not really flying. And then you like... zoom around on them. And you can do tricks if you want to, but you don't have to. [Charles, you really need to address this kind of old man stick in the mud streak of yours. Such a Responsible Adult.]

[Dreamy sigh.] That's so cool, though. I wish I could fly.

Sort of like my chair.

[ He nods. ]

It's impressive, but not something I'd like to do regularly.

Yeah! Just like it.

[Wrath grins.] Well, next time he wants to fly you around, tell him to take me instead. [It's the only practical solution.

Insert mental image here of Erik dropping Wrath on a group of miscreants like some sort of small, pink, grinning bomb.]

[ He snorts lightly. ]

The chances of me convincing him to do that are very low.

[She hands Charles back the stylus for the frame.

Sigh.] Some day Erik will think I'm cool. Or okay. [Probably not. But you know. Gotta have goals.]

[ He blinks. ]

Give it time. He's not very good with enthusiasm.

[ Or being liked, but that's not for Charles to say. ]

I've been friends with way bigger assholes than Erik. Maine thought I was crazy, but then he turned out to be my best friend. But then again, he also decided I must be a badass because I survived getting thrown out of Bifrons Tower. So I guess Maine is more easygoing, even if he's a bigger asshole.

[She misses Maine. She misses him staring at her like she's speaking in tongues, that little lip twitch that says he's trying really hard not to smile. She tends to gravitate toward people that she can crash into like walls, because she needs that point of stability. Though what she can offer them in return is really an open question to her mind.]

As I said. Give it time. Erik is a lot kinder than he appears.

[Shrug.] It's really not a big deal, Charles. I just try to be friends with everyone. And Erik's important to you, so that makes him important to me, that's all.

[She knows not everyone is going to get along. That's how interpersonal dynamics work. So she'll just do her best and be herself and it'll be what it'll be.]

[ It's still hard to put what he has with Erik into words. The fights, the anger, the betrayals, the losses. Erik and Charles have never tried to fully explain it because there was no way to make people understand it. ]

Erik is his own person, even though he's important to me. Don't push yourself for my sake.

Nah. He just... he reminds me a lot of my old partner Octavian. So I keep saying really stupid shit to him, even though it's not fair to expect him to understand it. So it's my fault whenever things get weird because I don't think enough about stuff.

[And remembering Octavian is like remembering a ghost. It comes in snatches, impressions manifesting at unexpected times, because of a word, a gesture, a smell, who knows.]

[She nudges Charles.] It's your turn.

I'm sure he doesn't see it that way.

[ He glances back at the picture. ] Where were we?

[She snorts.] He thought I was expecting ass pats when I felt bad about a really dumb thing. So I called him a dick. Then we went shopping, so it was fine.

We were on hoverboards! On the moon. On hoverboards.

Ah, yes.

And then there were aliens.

[ They're green. ]
