[ some of you may have noticed that winn has been uncharacteristically quiet for the past...16 days. he's not really sure how to address the elephant in the room - he knows these two weeks and change have been hard on the people he loves but for him it's like no time has passed and the dissonance is hard to bridge.

it's a good thing he has a not at all unhealthy coping mechanism set in place. ]

You know, if we're entertainment on a reality show, the least they can do is give us like a recap - you know your basic [ in a tv announcer impression ] here's what you missed on the Fleet - or - last week, on the young and the Drifting - [ he rubs the back of his head before shaking it ] Well, maybe talking about the 'least they can do' isn't such a great plan...first order of business - what'd I miss? [ he shakes his head ]

Did you do anything but work?

[ yeah that's concern she's hearing and no he doesn't care it's hypocritical but thanks for asking. ]

True. Maybe the next stop will be even better for food.

[She runs her fingers through his hair.] No. I spent a few days with you. [Is that less or more concerning?]

[ he's not sure. ]

Did I mention I'm sorry yet?

[ he really is. it's not going to keep him from possibly putting it through this again if his theory is correct and his continued poking evokes more anger - but he is sorry. ]

I know. I also know it's not your fault. [She kisses him softly.]

You know if...something happens...I want you to be happy.

[ it breaks his heart having to say it, he hates having to say it, and the way he holds her a little tighter, the way everything about him tightens betrays it. he doesn't want to think of them failing - but it's a possibility, a very real possibility. and if it happens, he knows she's strong - she'll survive it - but if he can make it a little bit easier on her by braving this talk, he should. ]

[ he kisses the top of her head. he can't imagine moving on from kitty, doesn't want to imagine it. ]

So am I. [She burrows against him.] You know what I mean. [If she's gone. The same way he meant it. She knows she's bad at being alone. That she would move on eventually if he was gone, but she doesn't want to think about that.]

[ he knows. but he's not her - he can't imagine anyone else ever loving him like kitty does. it took him almost 30 years to find one person who saw past his faults to virtues even he can't see, to expect it to happen twice feels idiotic.

I'll find you is what he wants to say - but he can't. not only is that an impossible promise to guarantee - but it will negate the very purpose of this conversation, put a burden of guilt on her if he's the one to go that he doesn't want for her (well - selfishly he does, he wants her to fight for him, to go find him). so instead, he just keeps stroking her arm. ]

[ pushing the hair out of her face with a smile. ]

[ being a brat for the sake of levity! ]

[She laughs.] Right. [For a moment she thought he was telling her he heard things while he was asleep.]

[ if only, he'd have liked that - it's a notch under attending your own funeral. ]

So who'd you think talked?

[ because he thinks she thought he heard it from someone else. ]

[She does, at least, figure out what he's thinking.] I didn't mean it that way, but I know Tyrion came in to read to you. Wouldn't be too surprising if he did.

He did?

[ that's...sweet. and strange. he can never really figure out what his relationship with tyrion is. tyrion reads him like a book, and seems genuinely interested in his well being - but he can never really tell if it's because he likes him, or because he's kitty's man and he's trying to make sure she's taken care of. ]

[ it can be, but it's just...weird. he's not used to people taking such an interest in him, especially such an immediate interest. ]
