[ some of you may have noticed that winn has been uncharacteristically quiet for the past...16 days. he's not really sure how to address the elephant in the room - he knows these two weeks and change have been hard on the people he loves but for him it's like no time has passed and the dissonance is hard to bridge.

it's a good thing he has a not at all unhealthy coping mechanism set in place. ]

You know, if we're entertainment on a reality show, the least they can do is give us like a recap - you know your basic [ in a tv announcer impression ] here's what you missed on the Fleet - or - last week, on the young and the Drifting - [ he rubs the back of his head before shaking it ] Well, maybe talking about the 'least they can do' isn't such a great plan...first order of business - what'd I miss? Right. Anyways, I'm totally going to top your alien prison story, I just have to decide one to tell you.

[ he scoots over to the edge of his seat and gestures for her to proceed. ]

Go ahead, try.

[robitussin]

Once I met a talking plant who wouldn't stop using puns. He turned out to be able to spit acid but totally failed me in my time of boss battle need anyways. I named him Audrey II because of course I did.

[winn]

for a moment he just looks at her, trying to figure out if she's making this up just to see how much he'd believe. the answer, of course, is a lot.

if his pop-culture knowledge hadn't been messed with, he would be so proud of that name, so very proud. ]

How far could he spit? What kinda acid? What does a plant talk about? Is he like, raging against vegetarians?

He was a daffodil. I don't remember everything he talked about, but his sass knew no bounds. He was kind of an asshole. He called me rude even though I named him out of the kindness of my own heart.

Anyways, as for the acid, we kind of got attacked by a mad scientist werewolf thing that was made because we wouldn't give it coffee? So I tried to use Audrey II to save us, but it turns out plant power is useless. It had paralytic spores it could shoot from it's mouth, but that didn't work even though I shot them over with my grappling hook..

[a pause.]

For the record, I literally could not make this shit up, so.

[winn]

[ he blinks. ]

Okay you win - I'm sorry, did you just mention a werewolf that runs on caffeine instead of the lunar cycle?

[robitussin]

Yeah, in the end we won because someone ran off during the fight to fix the coffee machine and when they came back with espresso he chilled out and just kind of wandered off. Anticlimactic, honestly.

[winn]

Now that -- sounds like a comic strip. Did you ever see him again?

[robitussin]

Nah. It was part of a game, so after the boss battle I guess that was it.

[winn]

What was the rest of the game? Did you ever figure out the point of any of it?

[robitussin]

It was, like... We had no memories and we had to find a way out of this weird research facility thing? And then we remembered everything again.

As for the point of it, that's going to take a while to explain.

[winn]

Time I got plenty of.

[robitussin]

It's also kind of a bummer. Your call.

What isn't? [ he nods for her to proceed. ]

[robitussin]

Wow. Didn't peg you as a cynic.

[she pauses for a second]

Man, there's no way to start this that isn't awkward. My world kind of got destroyed? So we had to play games to rebuild it.

[winn]

I have my moments.

[ like, after the atroma knocked him out for 16 days.

yeah...a bummer doesn't begin to explain it. god, he hopes he's right and that all of this is nothing more than a virtual reality of some sort - it would make sense, wouldn't it? destroying a planet is doable. rebuilding it? ]

I'm so sorry -- what -- happens now that you're here? Is there someone else from your world back there? [ does that mean she supposedly succeeded, that the game hit pause, that...what? what kind of twisted game is this, leaving people to live with these things hanging over their heads? ]

[robitussin]

Yeah, there is someone else from home, just like... a different version of it. Alternate realities, I guess? He knew me, but I didn't know him. Anyways, I'm sure he can fix whatever version he came from. It's cool.

[winn]

It doesn't mean it's done.

[ he reaches across the space on the couch to lightly pat her hand. see, he's really an optimist. ]

That had to be freaky, did you talk to him much? Ask about alternate you?

[robitussin]

[she pauses in surprise for a moment, not expecting the gesture, but she doesn't flinch or pull away.]

As for asking him about me... Not really. That was the thing... Everyone came with only one memory, and we won them back by playing games. It was supposed to act like a blueprint for our world once we had every memory back? But anyways, he hadn't remembered much by the time I came here.

I talked to him pretty often, I guess, but it was just awkward.

Awkward does seem to be the name of the game. [ a pause ] In which case, I now totally get why I'm here.

[robitussin]

[laughs]

Yeah, awkward seems like a pretty common trait among people brought here.

[winn]

I'd say the most common traits I've seen around here are awkwardness, intelligence, and heroism.

[robitussin]

Gotta say the intelligence is pretty surprising. I mean, the other two make sense, but you would think that when selecting people for a reality TV show one of their first thoughts would be who could do a bunch of dumb shit that would make viewers feel better about themselves.
