It is bound to do much more than that, but that is its main purpose. It can't be too dire a situation.

That... cannot be right. I must be misunderstanding something.

What do you think you are misunderstanding?

The function of the engine. Other than moving us forward, what are its other purposes?

Engines turn one force into another type of energy. There is probably more to it than I know. But it is probably responsible for the heating, and maybe the electricity. Space is very cold.

But... Why is there so much to facilitate the trip through space, when that journey is itself unnecessary?

Probably to make us feel essential, even if we really aren't. From what I understand, we can't really go anywhere by choice.

It seems to invite unnecessary risk, even from our captors' point of view... The ship can be damaged or destroyed, when they are able to simply take us across worlds at their whim in an instant regardless.

It is probably for these 'viewers' that there supposedly are.

[personal profile] foxpas 2016-08-08 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
... These 'viewers' are watching us as though we are a stage play, are they not?

That's what I've been told. We get paid depending on how they like us.

... There is one drama I watched frequently when I was younger. It was a tale of a masked knight, wandering the continent and bringing justice in each new town he visited. But... There was never any time showing his travels themselves, because they are rather dull compared to what happens to the places he visits.

Is our travel so much more interesting?

That, I can't answer. If it weren't, what reason would they have had for kidnapping us in the first place? There is a reason they are not seeking volunteers or even their own kind.

I know not their true purpose. But I doubt it is benign to us.

I doubt it, too. But until something happens, we keep our eyes and ears open.
