Don’t care if he’s guilty, don’t care if he’s not
Who: Adalwolfe Hawke and you
Broadcast: Yes
Action: Yes (Three Twins med bay)
When: Now
[Video]
[Some may know and some may not, but even with the little communications crisis going on right now, Adalwolfe is not on the ship he's assigned to. Currently, he's been haunting the medical bay of the Three Twins instead, which is what's vaguely in the background of the video as it winks into broadcast.]
Hey everyone, Hawke here. The male one, obviously.
[He takes an awkward breath, looking a little dark and strained around the eyes, mostly from lack of sleep.]
I know there are other things going on, and these comas are perhaps old hat to some of you especially with how frequently they've been going around right now, but is it... is it normal to age so quickly in one of these mysterious comas?
[He rolls his chair out of the way of the device he has sitting on the counter, giving a side view of Anders laying prone in one of the hospital style cots, eyes closed and Ser Pounce-a-lot the orange tabby curled on his chest with no intention of moving. Anders has grown far more gaunt than when he was up and around last week, and has more than his carefully groomed five-o-clock shadow in stubble about the chin. The beard would be worse if Adalwolfe hadn't taken the time to carefully shave his fellow mage, but he's not about to announce that on the network.]
I hope it is. Otherwise I'm worried he'll waste away like this.
[Adalwolfe rolls back into view, blocking all but the swishing of Ser Pounce's tail.]
Also, to the First Breath crew, I'm sorry I'm not there to take care of the device. I'll be back--
[A glance back at Anders and Hawke shakes his head.]
I'll be back when I'm back. Until then, help yourselves to the bread and things I have stored in the galley from the last planet as an apology. There should be enough to last weeks. Just leave enough of the frozen meat to last Ser Drools until the next planet.
[With an uncharacteristically grim expression, Hawke pauses, then decides he's said his piece until someone answers, and shuts off the feed rather abruptly.]
[Action]
After shutting off the feed, Hawke leans back in his chair, flopping his forearm over his eyes for a moment as if that will somehow block out his worry. He's not sure what he's more anxious over - the thought that Anders won't wake up by himself and he'll have to try and desperately wake him in a panic before he turns to nothing but a husk, or the thought that Anders will wake up with memories of his future, memories of Kirkwall, and Adalwolfe won't be in them. It's a distinct possibility, either way. They both remember Riona, which bodes well, but so does Leliana and yet Leliana doesn't know him at all, which puts him back to square one on what to expect.
Ser Drools whines from under the console at Hawke's feet, responding to his master's turmoil. Or responding to his own turmoil at not being able to get close to Anders' bed for the cat keeping stalwart vigil on Blondie's chest.
Hawke lowers his arm and leans down to pet his dog instead, trying to stop moping and fretting for Ser Drools' sake as much as his own. He's just resolving to do that when the door opens and Adalwolfe's attention spins to that, hand poised over his puppy to see who's come in and for what.
"If you need medical attention, I'm afraid the doctor is out just now."

video - private forever
Yeah, I remember. I wish I had better news or more to even tell you, but at least I'm very sure that whatever is happening he will recover from. Just not sure when.

[He's grasping at straws a bit. It's what everyone has been telling him, and with most others he takes it with a strained smile and a thank you, but there's no pretense with Kirk.]
I know everyone else on record has woken up, right as rain. That's what I've been told, and I know you've likely seen it happen, even, so I know you're likely right. I just wish I could be sure.

Because Atroma needs us - well, conscious and doing things to ultimately conduct this experiment. We can be out for a bit, but that doesn't really help it. So I don't think Atroma would let anything terrible happen. It's not my favorite reason, but I think it's one of the most logical.
[ He just tells him the honest truth. Sugar coating it won't help, and he never felt that actually did anything for anyone. Not really. ]
I understand. The waiting - it's always the hardest part.

[Adalwolfe blinks, looking more surprised than worried for the moment.]
That actually makes a lot of sense.
[It's comforting, in its way, and he appreciates Kirk's honesty instead of gentle platitudes. Those help too, a little, but truth is highly appreciated from someone as close to him as Kirk.
Adalwolfe smiles a little. It tugs at his eyes.]
You have a way with people. You know that, don't you?

[ Well, he was glad that logic was helping someone. Maybe he was just better at delivering it than Spock, since he knew if the situation was reversed he would probably have smacked the Vulcan. Well, not really, but at least been irritated. But it looked like logic did have its uses at the right moments. ]
Oh, I don't know about that. I just try and do the best I can for my friends.

[Adalwolfe leans on his elbows, one arm down across the counter and the other curved up behind his neck, fingers against the base of his skull. He should probably tell Kirk now, just in case it is his Anders lying there behind him (Maker please let it be his Anders...) but... if he's not. If Adalwolfe truly is alone in the Fleet, he doesn't want to abandon his best source of comfort either. Moreover, he doesn't want to burn a bridge with Kirk regardless. He likes Kirk as a friend, appreciates him as such, and that won't stop even if the sex does.
He's pretty sure he's doing this friends with benefits thing wrong, though, if he's so worried about Kirk's reactions to leaving off the benefits. Maker help him maybe he's not cut out for this, but he's certainly not going to stop now. Well, any more than he's full stop on literally everything until Anders wakes up...]
Why does life have to be so bloody complicated?

He gave him a sympathetic smile through the camera. ]
I wish I had a good answer for you, other than the best laid plans never survive engagement, and that's just how people are.
no subject
[He sighs and leans back, then gives a soft and grateful smile to Kirk.]
Thank you, this helps quite a lot, though I'm sure it must be somewhat awkward.
no subject
Awkward? How so?
[ He raised his brows, confused by that sentiment. ]

[He looks flustered, running his hand through his hair twice.]
We're friends with benefits, as you called it, but he's my-
[Lover sounds strange to say there, somehow. Flippant almost. Kirk's his lover, in a sense. There's affection there, and he doesn't want to hurt Kirk's feelings. He likes Kirk, it's just not love in the sense that it is with Anders, all encompassing and feverish.
Adalwolfe puts his face in his palm in embarrassment.]
I'm not doing this right, am I.
[Not really a question.]

[ Understanding dawns and Kirk gives the other a gentle smile, accompanied by a soft laugh. ]
He's more than a friend. I get it.
And no, it's not awkward, Hawke. I'm not upset - it makes sense, and we both agreed what we had was no strings and I meant it. If you don't want to continue that part of things, it's fine. Really. We can still be friends - I would want us to be regardless of that aspect of our friendship.
If you still want us to be, that is.

[He lets out a breath.]
I'm sure those benefits won't go unclaimed for long.
[He's trying to be funny, but really that sounds terrible and he grimaces again.]
Nevermind. Just bury me somewhere in a shallow grave.
no subject
[ Another laugh, amusement clear in every line of his face. ]
I don't think Anders would appreciate it if I did that.
But good - I'm glad we're still friends. And I do hope that he - that he wakes and he's whom you remember.
wrap?
[Adalwolfe relaxes a bit with a chuckle, or at least relaxes as much as he can given the circumstances. He looks over his shoulder at Anders, still completely out of it.]
I hope so too.
