[Her ear twitches as she sniffs the air.]

What is it you're doing?

[ Unfortunately? Strange choice of words. ]

Oh, I'm testing to see how strong these metals are. I need them for a project.

[This is one fox who would really rather be elsewhere, sadly.]

What kind of project? [She tilts her head, looking mildly interested. Humans doing science always is.]

Nothing special. I'm going to try and forge a ring. Though I'm not very good with my hands and metalwork.

You can't be that bad. At least you have thumbs.

[She waggles a paw at him. The one downside to being in this body most of the time is the lack of proper hands.]

What is the ring for? Or are you bored?

[ Charles can understand that. His otter form had always made it difficult to grasp things. ]

It's for my partner. He helped build this new chair for me - [ And he pats the arm rest. The chair itself was sleek metal which hovers above the ground and a joystick near his right hand. ] - so I wanted to do something in return.

[Blinking, she hops off her chair and wanders closer to get a better look at the chair and wow, okay, that thing is hovering. She leans down so that she can see the empty space between the bottom of the chair and the floor, then jumps back suddenly, her ears perked up.]

It's floating! How is it floating? Magic? Or science?

[ He chuckles softly at the enthusiasm. ]

Science, I believe. Though I do not know the logistics of it.

[She wants to try and crawl underneath it but she'll hold off on that, in case doing so breaks the chair somehow. Still! Her tail is wagging.]

This is impressive. A regular wheelchair must have been difficult to deal with in here.

It can be taxing. But I've gotten used to it.

[ It's a part of life now. Annoying at times, but not worth giving too much thought. ]

Humans can be so creative when it comes to adapting. [A crippled animal would be left for dead and Fairy Tales just heal up, so... yey humans!

She steps away from the chair, opting to jump up onto the table this time. Totally not caring if that's unsanitary.]

You never cease to amaze me.

Are there a lot of humans where you're from?

[ Each world is different after all. ]

Billions. Six or seven billion, I think. They're the dominant species.

[Yep, perfectly normal world that just happens to have a talking fox.]

[ He nods. ]

It must be difficult, sometimes, to have that many people around. I am human in a way, but I'm also a mutant and we're quite rare.

[She can't raise an eyebrow, so she tilts her head.]

What exactly do you mean by mutant? We don't have those back home.

People with special abilities that they gain at puberty. Or at birth, it depends.

What sorts of abilities?

Well, I can read minds. My sister can change shape. These abilities can be almost anything.

[Mind reading.

That's telepathy, which is similar-but-not-the-same-as-though-sometimes-it-is mind control. She doesn't come across other people who have mind powers very often so it's always... well, not exciting. Nerve wracking?

She is entirely casual on the outside, appearing to be little more than curious at this whole mutant business.]

What can she change into? And can you read any mind?

[She does not actually give two shits about his sister.]

[ Ah. He's used to this train of thought, though he remains polite about it. ]

So far. I can't read the minds of non-biological creatures - like robots or machines, for example. Animals are trickier, though I've never fully tried.

[ It'd be too much to read both humans and animals. Humans alone were enough. ]

Raven can turn into any person she likes.

It sounds like there's a logic behind it.

[Which is nice, she supposes. Fairy Tales don't always abide by logic.]

Can you do more than read them, or is that your limit?

[ He raises an eyebrow. ]

I can. Though I don't do that without permission or unless I need to defend myself.

Goodness. You're very upfront about it.

[Seriously. Hearing someone straight up say they can control minds like that has her both incredibly wary and impressed. She tries to keep her ability a complete secret.]

You'd think being that honest would cause a lot of trouble.

It does and it always will. So I might as well be honest about it.

[ Keeping it a secret would backfire on him anyway. ]

I suppose that's one way of looking at it.

[The worst way, in her opinion.]
