[Kitty was not expecting a surprise birthday party because while it is the date of her birth, her last birthday was about seven months ago because abductions that can happen from any time make things weird. And then there's also the part where Winn got attacked by Sascha and she and Winn had their first significant fight and things have been on the rough side. Of course, with people like Winn and Pinkie Pie in her life she really should have known better.

So, here we are on The Tourist with dancing in the cargo hold. Winn's phone is playing mustic amplified by Cisco's speakers. There are snacks, beverages, and cake in the kitchen. With Pinkie Pie helping out and some of the stores of food they built up from the time on the hand holding planet you can expect better-than-spacefood quality. And if you need more privacy, Winn opened his room up, but he did include a sign that says no making out complete with a disappointed frowny face, so you would never! Probably.

Enjoy the party! Kitty is turning 20 years and 7 months today? Yeah, there may be another birthday party for her coming up. She's probably doomed to have two per year. Of course you have to get gifts for both!]

So, people have been bringing me presents. [Which is weird.] And I got one I'm not sure I should accept. [Don't worry it isn't a bad thing. Well, kind of, but lightly bad. More like naughty? Nothing that should cause a lot of angst. At least she'd be surprised if it did.]

[ he frowns curiously at that and tilts his head. ]

[ something she's not sure she should accept - did tyrion give her something inappropriate? because he may be too stressed out to care. ]

Um...pot? [She laughs.] As in to smoke, not as in to cook in.

...seriously?

[ he's never even seen pot. there's a little itch there, to try it - but with his luck all he'll get is just more paranoid. ]

Where'd anyone even get that from - [ is there a secret pot farm on one of the ships? because that...that would be kind of impressive, in a horrifying sort of way. ]

She said she grew it. [Probably in her room on the Tourist. So closer than you think.] I accepted it for now. She said to just give it back if I didn't like it. [But she wouldn't try it alone either.]

She also gave me cigarettes. [Which she gave up out of necessity here. Remy implied there weren't any. It was longer before she figured out that there were, but they were space cigarettes and by then she was through the worst of it. But she's always relied on them at her most stressed and they sound kind of heavenly right now, but she's not sure how Winn will feel about it since he hasn't really known her as a smoker.]

Who's...she?

[ yeah he's not liking these gifts. smoking or smoking wouldn't be deal breakers for him, but he isn't going to be a fan either. cigarettes smell, and they're unhealthy, he's not a fan and his expression says as much. ]

Know to attribute uncharacteristic paranoia to weed instead of a malfunction?

[ they don't exactly have laws here, and he doesn't have any authority over anyone else's actions. sure, he'll meddle if she tries to give margaery any, but otherwise the people of the fleet are adults capable of making their own decisions. as long as she's not cultivating anything more hardcore, that is - the last thing they need is a drug addiction sweeping the fleet. ]

I don't think she'd smoke it if it made her paranoid. [But he has a good point. She's heard it makes some people paranoid and that is not something Winn needs more of in his life.] Okay, but if I tell you then you're not allowed to tell Jim. Deal?

[ he takes an intuitive leap. jim would only care if it's a member of his own crew, and he knows for a fact it's not kara. ]

[ he shrugs with a little smile ]

[ he pushes a strand of her hair back, waiting for her to decide where to take this conversation to now. ]

So, I guess if you might want to try it with me sometime then I'll hold on to it and if you don't I'll give it back?

I'm...naturally paranoid. I don't think it's a good idea for me.

[ as tempting as an escape sounds like, he'll stick to finding his in a familiar bottle. he's had too many things go wrong lately, it doesn't feel like the time to be experimenting and besides - he's never really felt an attraction to that kind of escapism. his mind is his asset, he wants to protect it. ]

[ he actively tries to avoid it. you can tell by his wardrobe.

he smiles into the kiss. ]

Too much. I'm starting to think people like me. It will go straight to my head. Mmm, a cook book, a personalized song from a pony, a bucket which makes more sense of you know the story, a little wooden cat, and I think I saw more people with more boxes so we'll see.

[ shaking his head fondly. good. this is the feeling he wanted her to get out of today. ] I think I need to hear the bucket story. And that song, if it's recorded -

When I met Wanda I was reaching through a store window on the moon to phase through a metal bucket they were selling so I could test the density of the metal. See if it was worth making into claws. And she saw me and then she picked it up with her mental abilities. So there was power bonding.
