[Kitty was not expecting a surprise birthday party because while it is the date of her birth, her last birthday was about seven months ago because abductions that can happen from any time make things weird. And then there's also the part where Winn got attacked by Sascha and she and Winn had their first significant fight and things have been on the rough side. Of course, with people like Winn and Pinkie Pie in her life she really should have known better.

So, here we are on The Tourist with dancing in the cargo hold. Winn's phone is playing mustic amplified by Cisco's speakers. There are snacks, beverages, and cake in the kitchen. With Pinkie Pie helping out and some of the stores of food they built up from the time on the hand holding planet you can expect better-than-spacefood quality. And if you need more privacy, Winn opened his room up, but he did include a sign that says no making out complete with a disappointed frowny face, so you would never! Probably.

Enjoy the party! Kitty is turning 20 years and 7 months today? Yeah, there may be another birthday party for her coming up. She's probably doomed to have two per year. Of course you have to get gifts for both!]

Well, to be honest, the first time we met I - [He stopped, before he cleared his throat. Let us not go into why Tyrion had been so frank with Kitty. It was ... a trifle embarrassing now.] - at any rate, I am ... prepared to be as open with her as she is with me.

Right. You weren't subtle about that. [Feeling a little awkward now. Not because he had been hitting on her. Like he said, that was obvious at the time. But also...he'd been hitting on her from basically the moment they first spoke. She didn't think that much about it at the time because he didn't really know her. Not like he does now. She falls quiet. Thoughtful for a moment.]

Are you...worried if you open up to her that she'll...end up with Winn? [Trying to make it lighter. It may fall flat. Did she really hurt him with that?]

I am only subtle in politics, backstabbing, and family affairs. [He said with a com finish ruminating.]

...Honestly I would prefer it if Winn kept himself to one woman, thank you. [Is his dry reply, before he sighs heavily.] I am worried if I open up with her - tell her everything ... that it will put me into the, what is it called? The friend-zone. Where she would consider a relatonship with me far, far too dangerous.

I would prefer that too.

I don't think the friendzone really works that way. I think that's just what people tell themselves to explain away why it didn't work out. I think it's usually just chemistry or timing. [And for her and Tyrion it was timing and it was so close. She basically met them at the same time and it was just as she was opening herself up again. She just didn't think she wanted anything too serious and it felt like she would have wanted serious with Tyrion if they went there. And then she just fell into it with Winn, denying that she was falling until the dance.]

[His mouth twitched.] I have very little idea how it works, honestly. Although I would prefer it to be timing. Chemistry is something ... I believe we already have. [So honestly, there they were. He knew Kitty and he had chemistry - now if he could just bring that over to someone who was ... more available.]

Kitty I have been unlucky in love three times now. I believe stretching it to a fourth should simply be me admitting that I am not meant for this sort of thing.

I'm on my fourth, and I'm younger than you. [Three times? His wife. Sansa maybe? Who is the other? Is he already considering Dany unlucky?]

Fourth? Well ... then I suppose I can try four times then. Just to keep up. [His wife. The evil whore. Kitty and Sansa sort of fell into the same strange category so he would count them as one.]

[She really doesn't think she holds any such place among them. Willful ignorance maybe. It's safer for their friendship that way. But how could she forget the evil whore? She doesn't for long. It clicks into place later almost as if she was skimming brackets. Or just going back through their long talk about their pasts.]

My husband, Reid, and I guess I counted Tyki in there. [She wishes she could dismiss him. She hadn't meant for it to be anything substantial and sometimes she writes it off like it wasn't. But in these simple moments when she counts the men she loved he gets a number. If it wasn't love it was still...something significant. Maybe twisted and perverse. But significant.] Winn makes four. Maybe four and a half. The prison was complicated. [Jack Harkness was complicated.]

[Tyrion pressed his mouth into a faint smile, tipping his head at her with some amusement.] We have the luck, don't we? Bad luck, but still. The kind of luck that puts all sorts of people into our path. Good, bad, and otherwise.

I think most of those people were a little bit of all of the above. Lots of good beginnings with bad endings. Maybe I should date an immortal to reduce the threat of endings. [She laughs softly, realizing what she just said.] Actually, I guess that "half" was an immortal. [She doesn't actually want to date anyone other than Winn, mortal or not.]

Now why would you want to do that to some poor immortal soul, who would be wandering around by themselves forever alone, pining over you? That's just cruel, Kitty. [Tyrion said with a mock 'for-shame' tone.]

Forever alone and pining over me? Come on. [She looks genuinely amused. Good one.]

Oh yes, they will absolutely be pining. Like you would not believe.

You're sweet. I mean, not that leaving someone pining is a good thing, but... The sentiment is sweet.

Wow. You are very results oriented. Sometimes it's just about the journey. [But she does feel for him. She doesn't like being alone and she hasn't been long and the times she has were mostly by choice. Even when Reid left her it was a choice to try and get back with him instead of finding someone new. There were interested parties.]
