[When Al begins the broadcast, he's at a set of wooden furniture he made himself at the previous planet he's set up in the Vanquish, making himself a mini workshop of sorts. He smiles shyly before speaking.]

Well, it seems like people in this star system take their factions very seriously... so I thought I'd offer to make clothing for people from my alchemy, in case you decide to ally yourself with one of them. I can make it for any color scheme you want, as long as you can provide me with the raw materials! I'd hate for someone to get in trouble if they don't blend in. ... or be overcharged, like I was when I went to dinner earlier.

Awesome! I'll give you directions to the room with the materials on the Iskaulit, then. I'm not really picky about what they look like, but if you need a specific design, I can ask someone for help with that.

Sounds good! I tend to make things look simple and straightforward- not much in the way of gaudy embellishments. That's more Brother's style.

Well, let's see... he once fixed a baby carriage and gave it a black, winged cover and a spike protruding from the front. When we were showing Teacher how much our skills had grown once, he made a gigantic statue of a winged horse with fangs.

....Whoa. You weren't kidding when you said gaudy.

[He's all for artistic freedom, but that's... too much.]

Yup. That's Brother, though- he likes to show off, even when he's making something practical. He tones it down when we're in the middle of battle, but when he wants to be flashy... watch out.

I should be glad it's you making the furniture then...

Probably. I'd be able to fix anything Brother did, but he might not like it if I did.

Well, if he ever shows up and he's looking for something to do, I could probably think up some projects for him, too.

Well- Brother can't do alchemy any more, but I know he'd appreciate being kept busy.

Sort of. Long story shot, he voluntarily gave up his ability to do alchemy.

That's a thing you can lose?

Yeah. Well, one of the central aspects of alchemy is that you need to give up something in order to obtain. When Brother and I were younger there was... an accident, and my flesh and blood body disappeared. Only my soul remained, locked into a living suit of armor, and I actually existed as such in the Fleet for a few months. Brother sacrificed his ability to do alchemy in order to bring my real body back and reunite my soul with it.

It's commonplace to me, but explaining it to someone else... yeah, it is extraordinary.

Thank you. When I was armor, I couldn't feel or sleep or even cry. It could get lonely sometimes.

Geez, it sounds like it would be. I guess where you're from people don't have regular all-nighters?

[Something like that would be less lonely if one had an internet connection or something- there's always someone awake somewhere. But he remembers the tech being less advanced in Al's world, so that's likely a bust.]

Not so much, no- though when we were in big cities, I'd often find some of my military friends awake on night patrol and the like. I could always read if I had nothing else to do. And, well, the enemy didn't always attack during the daytime. So I got by.
