[as the feed turns on, it focuses not on a person, but on a weapon instead - one of the laser swords that can be found on the planet. a voice can be heard, however.]

The goods being sold on this planet are incredible. If you haven't looked as of yet because you wish to remain unaffiliated, I would reconsider that decision.

[the view of the video swivels until adelina is in the frame, and she smiles. laser sword!! so cool!! it cost an obscene amount but she's satisfied.]

I am curious, though, as to what faction everyone has chosen and the reason for that decision. I can see the merit in each group, to be perfectly honest, so I would like to hear other perspectives.

That's quite the upgrade. [He knew that Adelina was missing her usual sword. It's something to see her so enamored with a laser contraption.] Though you're right - this system has better wares when it comes to weapons.

It is, isn't it? It's very strange to me, and I imagine it will take some getting used to... All the same, I can't imagine how it could have been crafted. It's fascinating.

[a brief pause]

Have you found something you've taken a liking to as well?

It looks to be some kind of laser. [He shrugs idly, giving it as close a look as the video image allows.] Though laser technology is still fairly new in my world, and my understanding is that the laser beams aren't visible. What you have there is more akin to science fiction.

A regular knife. I don't need much in the way of weapons.

I'd never seen anything like it in my home. [a pause] Science fiction... I think I've had that explained to me before. Novels about scenarios like this, correct? With spaceships and different planets.

I suppose the important thing is that it works well for you.

We don't have them either. [Star Wars is still four years away.]

I think so. It's the first place I've found that stocks them for a decent price.

How is it different from a regular sword?

[she scoffs] Absolutely not. I will play them for as long as I can, but I refuse to join one properly.

It's much lighter... Very convenient, I must say.

Why not, if I may ask?

[ oh no laser swords. barriss is never keen about the weight of full bladed weapons, but that looks almost properly balanced for someone missing her lightsaber. ]

That's quite the weapon you've found, Adelina. As for factions, I suppose it might be silly to say that Spirit's libraries reminded me of home and won me over when I meant to be impartial.

[she moves the camera slightly so barriss can see it again, speaking with a grin in her voice.]

I must admit I've become enamored with the libraries as well. [cheating on both spirit and moxie with each other to moon over books and cool weaponry: the life.] Would that I could take many of the volumes with me when we move to the next planet.

I'm going to see how many books I can get in digital form or whatever passes for a data crystal around here. There's just so much. [ ah yes, golden nerd squad in full swing here. ] If there's any sort of book you're most interested in, I can try to do the same for you.

Digital form? Is there a way to do so? [technology is hard.] You're correct, though - it's difficult to decide what to research first.

[and as such, she has to think about it for a moment.]

If there were a way to do so, I think I would like a variety of popular legends from different cultures. But you must allow me to do something to repay you.

Oh, we're shipmates, I wouldn't worry about that. [ favours tend to balance out eventually so barriss isn't concerned. ]

I need to do a little more research into the local data transferring methods, to make sure they'll work with something on the ship, but at home, loading something up with a pile of lore or obscure information wasn't hard at all. Physical books were rare and I always liked to have things to read on lengthy travels, or new things to share with a friend.

[she nods as barriss speaks, interested in what she's saying.]

Most books were... digital, then? How interesting. I can't imagine not having real books around.

[ontrial]

[ of course she's certain, so barriss doesn't bother responding to that. she'll do what she can to find knowledge adelina might like. ]

Getting to handle a real book was a rare treat for me. Our civilization has thousands of years of history and a long time ago, we realized we needed forms of storage that would last. Keeping things in technology is the surest way to ensure they'll survive longer than any person or book could.

I wish we had such advanced forms of technology and innovation in my home, honestly. We hadn't managed electricity last I was there.

[so spaceships were quite a shock.]

I imagine the technology in this place must seem rather simplistic to you, though.

[ no electricity. yep, barriss has been to regions of planets like that, but she's never stayed for any length of time. ]

In some ways, yes. But our spaceships don't work exactly the same way and I was a member of a peacekeeping order at home, though, so some of the places I traveled were more like a world you would be familiar with than the sophisticated planet I grew up on.

That is an interesting blade - not one I am familiar with. As for factions, I fear mine has been chosen for me, although I cannot complain. I would rather think remaining unaligned would have also advangtages, however.

Ah... well. I engaged some folk in a lively debate on musical theory, and it seems that they assumed because of my knowledge and tendency to favour blue that I was a member of Spirit... and I ... well. I have yet to correct them, as the libraries are quite impressive.
