009 [Video]
Who: Sokka and YOU!
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Deep in Savvy territory - in every sense of the word.
When: Today!
[If there's one thing that can be said about Sokka, is that when he decides to put his all into something, he really goes for it. He'd originally headed to Savvy to try and take his mind off Beverly. That there's still been no sign of her. Not even a whisper.
Turns out Savvy was really good for taking his mind off it. The Savvy people were his people. The weird tendency he has for thinking so far out of the box that he was in a different planet than the box is something that's cherished here. And Sokka really does love being appreciated.
He hasn't forsaken the usual Water Tribe Blue he wears, though he has accented his outfit with a green bandanna and belt. The people seem to forgive his spirit-esque faux-pas with his outfit for his endless offerings of actually-useful inventions and animal traps. He's grinning at the video from where he's sitting in one of the workshops. He's working on something that looks very explosive.
You can tell because it has "warning: explosive" stamped on the side of it.]
Guys, have you checked out the Savvy guys yet? Everyone here is amazing! I mean, aside from the green, and the lack of water, they would absolutely be Water Tribe people.
[He grins and waves a hand at the explodey thing.]
They even let me work in their workshops all the time! These people. [He lets out a fond sniffle] They're my people.
Also the best, so Spirit and and Moxxy can go suck on a penguinotter.

[He takes his out of a pouch, waving it a little bit to illustrate.]
We're using carrier ravens back home. This was definitely new. I wish we had them. Just sending out a text 'oh no there's a Blight get out of Ferelden' would have saved a lot of lives.

[Sokka huff out a laugh, nodding. ]
I hear that. We have messenger hawks back home. Mine actually showed up here after the hand holding tree thing. But even then, it wasn't a big thing in the South Pole. Sending messages to other parts of the world meant actually sending a person off TO them.
no subject
[What? He hasn't even looked into that on the ships yet, instead borrowing the shuttle to get anywhere. Adalwolfe may be a relatively smart guy but he has absolutely no frame of reference for technology. The trash compactor was a revelation.]
The tree gave you your animal buddy too? Nice. Gotta love that tree. That's how I got Drools back, too. But yeah, I can see how birds wouldn't do well in snow and all that. They get lost easier, so people running letters can be more reliable. Except if they run into bandits that could be an issue. Or darkspawn. Tal-Vashoth, rogue blood mages, rogue Templars, red Templars, [He starts counting on his fingers.] Venatori, rogue Wardens, demons, rifts, wayward spirits, shambling corpses, varterral, giant spiders, dragons, coterie, Carta, cultists... oh, and bears.

[Damnit, Wolfe. ]
...I have no idea what most of those things are, but I'm gonna go with 'bad'.
no subject
[And amazing.]
Which.. I can't even do. I never learned to Fade Step, and it can only take you a few feet anyway.
no subject
[There's a pause because huh, actual magical teleporting. Not even Aang can do that. Not really. ]
That's cool, though. The closest we have back home for that is earthbenders, and they're just going into the ground before they pop up somewhere else, so it doesn't really count.
no subject
[He trips a bit over his words there, about going into the Fade. It passes quickly though.]
Either way, the Veil can make time all wonky and Fade stepping uses that so you can travel yards in seconds, and it makes you momentarily incorporeal so you can even move through people and objects. Great for a quick getaway.

So it would be like being able to step into the spirit world, where I'm from. And use it to travel. I mean, it doesn't work like that, Aang always leaves his body behind when he travels in it. But yeah, I think I can understand it. A little.

[He's done it once with the help of a Dalish Keeper but it's not his usual forte as far as magic goes. He's not great with subtle things like that.]
no subject
[Explaining How Aang Worked was never an easy task.]
They reincarnate. It's the Avatar's job to keep balance in the world. They also keep balance between the regular world and the spirit world.
no subject
[He had a hard enough time with one city on the mortal side of things, he can't even imagine being responsible for the entire Veil.]
no subject
[Rn away from it, got stuck in an iceberg for 100 years, you know, usual coping mechanisms. ]
He still does, sometimes. But that's why he has us, to have his back when he needs it.
no subject
[He kicks a rock off to the side, Drools looking up from his sniffing the ground to stare at said rock with rapt attention until it settles a few yards away, then goes right back to sniffing.]
I mean, people have their own lives to live, and sometimes that means separating.
[That was the worst. His surviving friends, all uneasy about him for his decision to let Anders live. Aveline hadn't said anything about it, just telling them to keep safe and asking him if he was sure he knew what he was doing before he disappeared past Sundermount with Merrill and Varric. Carver had been far more verbal, looking at Anders like he was a Blight unto himself and trying to get Hawke to take an extra dagger or five 'just in case'. It would have been sweet if it wasn't in regards to the person he'd chosen to spend his life with. He'd taken one anyway, a small one for his boot; a fugitive can't be too careful.
Varric was uncharacteristically quiet for days. Wolfe thought he would have complained about the road, about the sun, about the dirt, about everything. He was as silent as Anders that first while, but they both loosened up after Hawke had spoken to Anders - finally, after being unable to for days. But it was an awkward sort of banter, any laughter short-lived and hollow. Too much baggage. Varric left them before they got too far north, saying he needed to get back to Kirkwall, needed to publish the finally finished 'Tale of the Champion' and all his contacts were there. If they were still alive, anyway. That was a particularly terrible blow to Hawke, who'd been relying on Varric as a sort of solid bosom companion who didn't push. He could just say whatever he wanted and Varric would nod and help to make the joke.
What was worse was Merrill went with him. She said the Alienage needed someone to look out for them, someone to make sure they wouldn't be taken advantage of as the city rebuilt. Wolfe had wished her well and told her to look after Varric, and he was glad they wouldn't be traveling back alone, but even with Anders still by his side, Wolfe hadn't felt that alone in a very long time.]
It's just not the same in letters.

[He still felt guilty he'd been away from home for as long as he had in the first place. Yeah, as part of Team Avatar, he had a responsibility to the entire world, not just his homeland...but it had been years. Even Toph had managed to reconnect with her father in that time.
It was absolutely time to go home. ]
No, it's not. We heard things were...pretty bad, back in the South Pole from people who'd left there. I don't know how bad, but I know we need to get there, and soon.
no subject
[He can sympathize, even if he's secretly glad to just have a break from Thedas. No one ever gets that chance. Even in becoming a hermit there's still the possibility of someone finding you and dragging you back into the world. They hadn't quite been hermits in that little village in Orlais, but Varric's letter still did the same. All he had to do was mention Corypheus and Hawke knew he was going to have to wade back in.
But here he physically can't and while that's frustrating to his sense of responsibility and his care for his home, it's a welcome relief to just be able to live and not be the Champion of Kirkwall the Seekers of Truth were looking for. He's just Adalwolfe Hawke and it's a nice change.]

[When Aang was here, Sokka was sure he felt the same, a little. It's hard, when the whole world depends on you. Sokka might be well loved and considered a hero, but he's not revered and desired as much as Aang is. He at least has the luxury of being able to take a break. ]

[He's about to say something else, but Drools barks suddenly and takes off like a shot across the open plain on which they find themselves towards a small copse of trees in the distance.]
Looks like he found something. Shall we?
no subject
[He brightens at the prospect of a hunt, starting off in the direction of Dools. ]
iiiii think we shall~
no subject
Wolfe pats Drools' head by way of telling him good job and motions to the birds silently, looking at Sokka to see how he wants to play it.]
no subject
Cut them off at the pass, as it were. ]
no subject
They circle around, Wolfe getting to a good vantage point, then waiting for Sokka's signal, frost starting to form around his fingers. If there's something he's good at when it comes to hunting, its penning in the prey.]
no subject
Any that try to race away from the line he's forcing them in get swiftly cut off by the boomerang. Ain't no denying that Water Tribe hunting sure is efficient when it needs to be. They'r headed your way, Adalwolfe, enjoy. ]
no subject
Now!
[At the command, Drools takes off like a shot to nip at the birds at the back of the pack while Adalwolfe spins his staff in a quick motion that ends with the empty dragon's mouth pointing towards the space in front of the herd. Magic spills from the weapon, coalescing into a swath of ice forming a wall roughly six feet tall and effectively blocking the birds' retreat. There's a sudden commotion as they all try to stop, two near the front going too fast to slow down in time and slamming into a sheer structure with a pair of dull thuds. The birds that still have their wits mill about in a squawking cluster, working out a way out of the trap. Of course, they have a boomerang and a snarling dog to contend with.]
no subject
He flings his boomerang again, trying to push the birds forward, while using his spear to keep them from racing around him ad he closes in tighter. ]
gonna jump ahead a little
We should have brought a cart for all these.
