[Oh Maitimo Finwe adores you so. He may have to lean up just slightly but Maedhros gets a kiss on the cheek as well.]

I am well! And you, grandson? I am pleased I can be with you all.

(He is happy over this shift and it shows. This ship will perhaps feel far more like a home.)

We will visit you often and you must return the favor. (His hair is neatly braided thanks to Fingon and his overall appearance seems...neater.)

You will see me every day, Maitimo! [Finwe wouldn't have it any other way. He would try to give his grandsons space but he wanted to make sure they knew they were loved.]

Did Finno braid your hair? I recognize those braids anywhere.

That suits me! (He does not need space, truly. He has had more than enough space for hundreds of years.)

Ah...yes. (His hand is raised to touch the braids.) He visits me in the mornings to help.

Every morning? [Finwe smiled affectionately, reaching out to stroke his grandson's hair affectionately.]

Maitimo, so long as you are happy I am happy.

Y-Yes. I never asked him until he - He came on his own. (Maedhros doesn't want anyone to think he pressured Fingon into helping him.)

I feel the same about you, Grandfather.

I have no doubt as to that. He cares for you very much, it was almost impossible to separate you two when you were younger. [Finwe smiled affectionately, kissing his grandson's cheek.]

(He leans down for the kiss, quickly growing fond of this affection.)

[Finwe can't help but tease, smiling fondly.]

I do have a confession. The reason I guarded Grandmother Indis on that day was because she kept giving me treats.

(He grins helplessly.) I was not entirely selfless! (Just...almost.)

Ah! I knew there had to be another reason! [Finwe teased, grinning. He had been happy that his grandchildren had embraced Indis even when Feanor treated her horribly. His second wife had adored and loved all the grandchildren equally.]

I did not want you to think less of me and she promised she would not tell. (Thus earning the tiny fiery-haired Elfling's eternal love and loyalty. They had even locked pinky fingers over the deal.)

No, I couldn't think less of you for that. You still love your grandmother and she loves you so much. [Finwe assured him with an affectionate smile. Nothing made him happier to see Indis surrounded by all the children, she had always cared for Maedhros and his brothers as if they were her own without hesitation or question.]

I couldn't do that either. I couldn't do that you or any of your brothers or cousins.

I would love her with or without treats. (Grandmother Indis has a quality that Maedhros cannot put into words. Her heart is in her smile and her hands and her eyes. He always felt he was meant to be her grandson even if technically they are not bonded by blood.

But what does blood matter?)

I know, I never doubted that for a moment. [Finwe had never doubted marrying and loving Indis even though a part of his heart would always be with his first wife. Indis seemed to have been meant to join their family.]

(He clings to Finwë's sleeve suddenly.) No, you are the precious jewel, Grandfather.

[Finwe leaned close to his grandson, letting him know that he was there still.] Let us treasure each other then.

I do love her. (It hurts that he will never see her again, but he will not let that darken the time he spends with Finwë.)

Yes. (He agrees with the plan, nestling their heads together. The ear that Morgoth so butchered is closest to Finwë and he might notice that Maedhros turns his head when they speak, using his other ear to catch everything Finwë says.)

She loves you as well.

[Finwe knew that without a doubt. He kissed his grandson's cheek affectionately.] And I love you as well, Maitimo.

Still? (He's afraid to ask. The kiss makes him sigh. Finwë isn't repulsed by his scars or...him.)

Most likely, yes. I'm sure we both did. [And it weighs heavily on his heart. He disappointed the two women he loved the most and made them grieve.]

It doesn't mean she would ever stop loving you though. I know both your grandmothers love you so very much, no matter what.

(The truth is a knife in his heart and he cannot help imagining both of his grandmothers mourning.)

I wish I could see them. I would do anything to set their hearts and minds at ease.

I know. I am sure they miss you as well. [He wished either Miriel or Indis were here but that was selfish, wanting them here for just him and his grandsons.]

Should they come, I will make amends to them. (It is a promise to his grandfather and himself. He will not break it willfully.)

[Finwe held Maitimo, his precious first grandson, close. He wished that he could give him more comfort and soothe away all his hurts.]
