[There's a strangely familiar cold that has settled in her bones, a dreadful chill that disorients her in the first few moments that she's awake. Her first thought is that something went wrong - very wrong - as they passed through the temporal distortion, but then... as she sits up and takes in her surroundings, the memories all come back in a flood. Atroma has brought Beverly back, a little older, a little blonder, and with a new Starfleet uniform.

Or maybe I never left, she thinks. This is not the Marsiva, these are her quarters aboard the Blue Fish, and none of her things look as if they've been moved. Though admittedly, her memories of Drift Fleet seem distant. By her reckoning, it's been three years since she's seen this room.

Not that "time" really means much, considering what's happened in the past few days.

The communicator rests where she left it on the bedside table. When she picks it up, she finds it's full of unread messages, crewmates and friends wondering where she is, each message sounding more alarmed than the last. With a sinking feeling in her stomach, she checks today's date: September first.]

Damn!

[Immediately, she sends a message to the network, via video:]

This is Dr. Crusher of the... SS Blue Fish. It seems our gracious captors sent me home for a while. I'm back now, and I'm safe, and I'm sorry to everyone who was trying to contact me this month. I'll be on the Blue Fish if you need me.

[There's a pause, as if she's about to say something else, but then she simply gives them a small smile, one that doesn't quite reach her eyes.]

Thank you.

[The feed cuts off and after a moment, she decides to head for the kitchen. Not that she's particularly hungry but - there's a good chance that's where she'll find at least a few of her crewmates.]

[Beverly smiles gently and takes Jennifer by the hand.]

Come on, why don't you come sit with me for a while?

Okay. And... sorry for freaking out, there.

No, no. Don't apologize.

[She squeezes her hand.]

You did nothing wrong.

Okay. [And she gave a nervous laugh.]

Thankfully you didn't miss much of importance, except I was in the care of Korra's polar bear dog for a few weeks while she was in hypersleep. It was pretty funny, in retrospect.

Polar bear...dog?

Yeah... she's got the body of a polar bear, but the head and temprament of a dog. Her name's Naga, and she's Korra's companion back home. I'd never so much as had a pet rock before, so the crew and I all banded together to take care of her.

Interesting. Sounds like a sehlat - it's a bear-like species on Vulcan that they keep as pets, despite the fangs.

Naga seems to be a puppy for now, so we've got that going for us. We're going to be in big trouble if she grows to the size of a polar bear, though.

Since none of us age, maybe she won't either.

God, I hope so. I'd hate to think about being confined with something the size of a full-grown polar bear, even considering that the Wonderduck is pretty well off in terms of upgrades.

If that happens maybe it'd be best to build her a habitat on the Iskaulit.

Yeah... thank goodness we have that. We'd be a lot worse off.

[She huffs.]

And yet I argued against taking it. Funny how things work sometimes.

[Jennifer grinned.]

Honestly, it skeeved me out a little bit at first, too... but it's proven to be so useful. In unexpected ways, even.

I'd like to think her original crew would approve, from what we have learned from the Nunnalis.

[She nodded.]

That's the point I stopped caring so much. ... just another example of the unexpected turns out lives here can take, huh.

[Beverly leans a little into Jennifer and sighs.]

That's for sure.

... I'm glad you're back. It just wasn't the same without you. Do... do you remember anything that happened during this past month?

[Drawing her feet up to her seat, Beverly settles into Jennifer's hug gratefully.]

Here, or at home?

Here. ... DID you go home? In your mind, I mean?

[She nods.]

For three years.

Wow... [That bit is quiet as Jennifer thinks about it, but then she remarks in a normal voice:] I hope some of the memories were good, at least.

They were. It's just... the past few days have been really difficult. Have I ever told you about the Borg?

[She frowns, trying to remember, but it feels like so long since she saw Jennifer last...]
