It's been a few days since Katie and Max recovered her from the avalanche she unwittingly started. It has taken that time for her to feel like she's back in the land of the living and not teetering on some cold abyssal edge; she's still sore, her movements careful and ginger, but she's got her wits about her and she's never been so happy to be warm again. While the ship isn't anywhere near the scorching temperatures she experienced back home, in relation to the burning cold she just dealt with she's grateful for a secure, safe environment.

She's also grateful for the outpouring of help and friendship, evidenced in the aftermath with Max and Tyrion's posts to the network. She wouldn't normally go out of her way to make such a public statement, but she recognizes the effort that went in to finding her, even outside of the one who was finally successful.

The video feed opens to a view of her in her bunk. She's still recovering, continuing to let Tyrion have control of the ship until she's sure she'll be able to handle it (and, perhaps, get a replacement arm for the one she lost in her foolishness). Her face is worn, and craggy from her bout with the elements, but she looks happy, hopeful.]

It's tough, but it's possible. Getting to know your fellows, I find sparring helps. There's plenty of work to be done on the Iskaulit, people building different rooms there.

Knowing people seems like a waste of time when they will eventually leave.

Mm, I don't agree. People die. It's not any different. Doesn't stop us from getting to know them.

I might have agreed with you once, but knowing someone closely had helped save my life. [In more ways than one, between Max and Angharad alone.]

[There's a moment of silence as she thinks on that, not expecting to be asked outright. Somehow, it didn't really feel right talking about over the network; not something this personal.]

Bring me some coffee, we'll talk about it.

[ But the captain has spoken and Cara knows authority. So she does show up at Furiosa's door. With coffee (badly made, as promised) ]

[As if Furiosa would know the difference. She takes the coffee and takes a drink, wincing but not complaining; it wasn't any worse than the first few batches she made when she had arrived.]

Take a seat. [It's a little bit of a stalling tactic. Furiosa doesn't much talk about her world, especially to someone who she just met, but the year here has softened her edges and had allowed her to see the importance of friends. still, she's going to take her time with this; allow herself the hesitation she needs to dig into the past, with the hopes that this woman will allow herself the benefit of surrounding herself with worthwhile people.]

[ Cara sits, wary and cat-like, always prepared for any eventuality. She's a warrior, trained young and it shows from her posture to her eyes. ]

My world was dead. Water existed in limited oasis, held by tyrants and strictly policed. Half-life warboys dreamed of dying in flames on the Fury Road. There was very little reason to get to know anyone, anymore than what you needed to survive.

Except, that's no way to live. I knew of a place, a Green Place, that the tyranny hadn't touched. It had been my home. I was going to escape, I'd tried before and hadn't exceeded, but I never gave up the thought. Then, I met the Wives. I met Angharad. I didn't think for one moment they would be able to survive outside of the Citadel, but she had a way about her ... she wouldn't be deterred.

[She takes a moment to shift, coughing into her hand for a moment. So much talking while she's still recovering is starting to wear on her, but she wasn't about to give in to it.]

She believed so fully in a place she hadn't seen, in a life she hadn't known. She was a strength and an inspiration to the others. To me. She saved me. She didn't just shield me from the tyrant, she taught me it was okay to love, to feel, to let people in.

[She loses herself in thought for a moment. It had taken her long enough to really let that lesson sink in, but she had.]

[ Kahlan. Richard had accepted her, but Kahlan had taught her. And Cara would always appreciate that, especially considering the start Cara had with her. After all, Confessors and Mord'Sith are enemies and Cara had killed Kahlan's younger sister. It had taken them a long time to understand each other. ]

[Furiosa nods, good, maybe it'll help her understand.]

Angharad died. She hasn't ever really left me, though. Not the impression she made. Not the things she taught me.

So. can you see why it's still important to get to know people? Even if they leave?

Because we are here. For better or for worse, we are the people we have to fall back on. I want to know who's got my back, who's back I'm getting.
