Adalwolfe may be a mage but he's never let that mean he's allowed to grow complacent physically. For all he could just stand back and fling spells, Hawke makes sure he keeps in excellent shape. Maybe it's vanity, maybe it has to do with years of apostasy, but when the show starts and he's brought into the ring, shirtless and with his hair tied back, it's clear that he's definitely not a sit in a library all day studying and forget to eat sort of mage.

But that doesn't mean he's any good at hand to hand fighting.

True, he's gotten into many a scrap even before he had his magic, and the times after it was always more imperative that he hide his abilities than win the fight, but when he beats his mountain of an opponent - a man who seems to be made of one large muscle. (Adalwolfe's reminded of a hornless, hairless Arishok with this guy's stature and reach and it brings back some nasty memories. Makes the scar on his abdomen twinge.) - it's only by the skin of his teeth and he doesn't escape unscathed by a long shot.

When the ref raises his arm with the triumphant announcement of his victory, Hawke is covered in nasty red and purple bruises and bleeding from more then a few impact wounds, especially on his face. He can't quite make out the crowd for the triple vision he's seeing them in through his one good eye. The other is swollen shut and there's blood across his nose, in his eyes, and in his mouth, but he still won. And with no magic at all.

He hits the surface of the ring with a goofy grin on his face and passes out.

Recovery; Action

When he comes to, he feels like one giant bruise. Before even opening his eyes, Adalwolfe groans and tries to move an arm in order to... he's not sure, but after half a second he decides that's not a good idea thanks to the shooting pain that fireworks into a grinding agony in his shoulder. Best to leave that for Anders to look at. Best to leave everything for Anders to look at, by the feel of it.

At the very least he cracks one eye open to see where he is, surprised that he feels glad to see the inside of the Three Twins lab. He'd spent too much time in here already fretting but it sure beats a jail cell. Guess they really did release him after he won. Awesome.

If anyone comes in within the next few hours, he'll be in the same position; stretched out on one of the beds looking like an abused piece of produce. It's not so bad as he'd appeared at the end of the broadcasted fight though, and in fact lessons as the day goes on; someone's clearly been caring for him. The cut across his nose remains, however, at his insistence. It makes him look cool.

Care to visit the invalid? Admonishments expected, well wishes appreciated.

Aftermath; Network Video

[Later, when Adalwolfe's recovered enough to leave the med bay and can move without anything more than dull aching thanks to the TLC from his favorite healer, he finally locates his communicator and pops on the network. He's still graced with that stupid split across the bridge of his nose burning an angry red, but at least his eye isn't swollen shut anymore and most of the other evidence of his hard-won boxing match has faded.

Wolfe grins a tired grin out at the rest of the fleet, pleased at himself for having gotten out of all that, though there's a little disappointment lurking behind his expression. He was in prison the last few days and then forced to fight for his freedom, so he's been completely out of the loop. And then Anders told him he'd missed facing off against a dragon. That would have been way better than a boxing match against the not!Arishok.]

So... what'd I miss? I hear there's a dragon, is everyone okay?

The tech level at home is pretty close to what we got here. A lot of merchant ships are about the size of the Fleet, lot of military ones can get as big as the Marsiva. Different kind of systems, but nothing here is too much of a surprise to me except the whole pulling people from different timelines and worlds thing.

But I guess for a lot of people, this is pretty different?

Yeah that sounds like a surprise to everyone.

Must have been easier to adjust though, knowing all the technology already. We have nothing like this where I'm from.

[There are some people who don't seem surprised by anything, but at least knowing space is something Finn's got to rely on.]

The hard part, I gotta say, is how these ships are really badly designed by my standards. They could break down any time and we don't have the resources to fix 'em. Dependent on the Marsiva for that.

[Not at all, in fact. He doesn't know the first thing about aerospace engineering. The only way people can get airborne in Thedas is via catapult, let alone leave the atmosphere. To hear someone from a space-faring world doesn't think these ships are good? It makes him nervous.]

With some of the powers people have around here? I bet that's why the augment limits 'em. They don't want people busting a hole in the hull. And if you see someone with a damn projectile gun instead of a reasonable energy weapon, tell 'em to knock it off. There's a reason energy weapons are standard issue.

Energy weapons can't puncture a hull?

[He's pretty sure he could with a well placed bit of force magic, which is why he won't do more than tiny spells while aboard, but energy beams and things like that seem like they would be more effective than a regular projectile, not less.

Granted Thedas doesn't have guns. Closest they come is crossbows.]

Nope. Not the kind Security officers get here, and not the kind I'm used to from home either. [He shrugs.]

Last thing anybody wants is an emergency just because some unauthorized personnel is messing around where they shouldn't be.

Well, yeah, but you'd think people would be smart enough not to actually try and get sucked out into space...

[Finn gives Hawke a Look.]

Have you met some of the people here?

I bet Atroma would stop it if there was a breach, though. Or make sure we had the right resources to fix it.

You think? I mean, apparently they have the ability to bring people back from the dead, so what do they care?

Though I can't imagine that doesn't take considerable resources.

I'll be real with you, that part bothers me. But I think--it's gotta be easier on their resources to protect their investment, right?

Sorry, this is all still not something I tend to think about too much. It's jarring enough being in space when a few months ago space was just what happened at night.

Hey, it's all right. Space or not, up until a few days before I got here any kind of normal life was something that happened to other people.

You get up, have a coffee, check your station. There's routine. It's nice, on some level.

[Finn nods energetically, even if a lack of routine wasn't ever his problem.]

You get a chance to just be you here. I like that.

Yeah, not any of your labels. No one cares that I'm an apostate or the Champion or a fugitive or anything.

[Hawke don't just tell people you're a fugitive.]

[Finn does, in fact, look a bit surprised at "fugitive".]

Uh. Well. Y'know. Sometimes there's stuff you have to do for the greater good that. People don't really... approve of in the moment, you know?

[He waves his hands in front of the video and adds quickly.]

It was for good reason, though! We were trying to help oppressed mages everywhere. There wasn't really any other way with how things shook out.

Do you think it would have happened anyway? Or that you're the only reason it happened in the first place?

[The tensions in his own world had been so high something would have had to give. Whether it would have turned out the same way without Finn's involvement is--well, he thinks it's debatable, but his friends seem to think he was instrumental in the whole thing. Maybe Hawke is the same way.]

Something was going to give. I believe we ended up saving mage lives through our actions, but as for how it went...

[He pauses, looking unreadable for a moment.]

What's done is done. I don't think there's much use in dwelling on how things may have been different.

[He looks at Finn curiously, cocking his head a little bit.]

That was a question most wouldn't have thought to ask. Can I hazard a guess that you come from some complicated circumstances on your world as well?

[Finn makes a face and looks away for a moment.]

There are a lot of people who got hurt because of me. Or--I thought it was me they were after, but it wasn't just that. It was a lot more complicated. And in the end, I know I saved the people who were worth saving.

Things are going to get real messy when I get back home, though. Even more than they already are.
