"I didn't realize cooking was part of Jedi training. So all those times I told you you could make something yourself when you complained about the food you actually could have." He decided to help himself to another dried vegetable without asking. He didn't consider the food here that bad, honestly.

Sometimes, he actually did, but in his own quarters, not in the main galley kitchens where all the troops could see. Officers (and Ren counted, even though he existed outside the command structure) had a few nicer amenities - a private bath, more spacious quarters, a very basic kitchenette, just to name a few.
"Didn't you ever learn the basics in your military academy?"

He shook his head as he took a seat once more, crossing his legs as he looked at Ren without amusement. "Imperial and First Order officers aren't trained to perform functions a domestic droid could carry out, despite what you may believe."

Clearly, if they had, Ren's messy quarters on the Finalizer may have looked hospitable to someone besides Ren.
"It's not as hard as you might think."

He had worked too hard and too long to prove himself more than his background, fighting for every bit of power he had once held.
"Besides we have you here to do the cooking now, don't we?" No, he was never going to miss a single chance to remind Ren of his new role.

"So you're admitting I'm superior to you, General?"
For once, there was no malice under the statement. It was almost like... a joke!

"If you can't use the Force, perhaps you could give the Resistance pilot food poisoning at the very least though."

"I will get my powers back, Hux." he insisted, very sternly. "... And pretty much all the food provided on this ship is manufactured in a way to prevent disease. It would be far easier to just poison him."

"Well, there is one option at least." He wasn't going to clarify whether he was serious about that or not. "Now, I have other things to attend to so I'll let you get back to what you need to do," he said as he stood, gathering up his coat.
