[Asuka doesn't look remotely like she's about to laugh at him, that same irritable expression glued on her face as before, though she does give him a quizzical look when he nearly drops the hairdryer. And what kind of guy keeps hair that long, anyway? Someone with more vanity than sense.]

What's your augment? [What's your name might be a more friendly response. Asuka pokes one hand out.] I'm Asuka Shikinami Langley.

['More vanity than sense' is a pretty apt description of Kanda, really.]

I think so.

[Maybe. He draws his fingers through his hair just to check, and there's no confetti! He turns it off and hands it back to Asuka like one would handle a gun, hilt first.]

Lab support, whatever that means. Name's Kanda. [He... isn't used to handshakes, so he just puts the blow dryer there.]

[Asuka doesn't elaborate, but accepts the hairdryer in lieu of a handshake, sticking it on the same table the dessert cream is on. He's seemed so suspicious of the hairdryer that she's secretly grateful he hasn't ended up with the pilot augment-- though maybe, given her tendency to hog that duty, that wouldn't be an issue. He might be too wary to try to fly.]

[She raises an eyebrow, the effect muted by the fact that only one of her eyes is visible.]

You haven't worked in a lab before?

You speak English. [Or at least that's what he's hearing. He doesn't know about the babel thing.]

... No. [He manages to look a little uncomfortable.] I've seen enough.

[interstices]

Well, yeah. My father's American. [She says that on automatic, almost like a rote response, and then--] Wait, how did you know?

[Because she's been speaking grumbly Japanese the whole time. The other part of what he says gets a terse, understanding nod.] Coil does the lab, too. I think.

You're speaking it right n...

[... No, no she is not, and his face kinda ends up in a strange expression as he realizes this.]

... Ah. It's the augment. [He can't understand Japanese very well at all. Kind of what happens when the entire nation becomes a crater and there's no reason for anyone to teach it to you.]

He can keep it. What's he look like?

So what are you? British, American? [Sure, she could figure it out if she wanted, maybe, but there's no sense in trying to when she could just ask him. Even though she's the one that brought Coil up, her expression sours quickly when he asks for a description, one hand finding her hip.]

He has his other eye patched.

Japanese, but I'm based out of England. I travel constantly.

[She seems to have a beef with Coil. He doesn't really care too much to poke into it.]
