[Kanda folds his arms and... also leans against the counter, though obviously a bit further down. The hand gesture confuses him at first-- and then he remembers running into the mute guy.]

Kanda, [he replies, and he's not sure if he should provide a sign. That's basically the beginning and end of his expertise right there.]

[Zhas crosses his arms as well. two peas in a pod, right here.]

Job...?

Lab, but I'm not going in there unless someone makes me.

[He's going to be a very productive member of the crew, can you tell?]

Good.

[...good? what does he mean by "good"?? isn't that the opposite of what he should be saying?

but oh hey, food's done. he'll just pull that out of the microwave and start putting it on plates. it looks like a distant cousin of stir-fry.]

Someone else runs the lab here, right? [He remembers Allen mentioning that.] ... Coil, or something?

[That's stir fry. Good lord, it's almost like real food. He's eyeing it a little intensely.]

[theboogieman]

[his default frown goes a little deeper. he looks over at Kanda for a few seconds too long, thinking but not saying anything...

...but then he slides the plate over, with a fork and everything. no hard feelings.]

He gets mad about people in there.

[He's not sure what he's done to offend. There's a long awkward pause where he looks at Zhas, trying to comprehend the meaning of that stare, but his hunger wins out. He takes the plate.]

As long as he can handle whatever support is supposed to do, I'll leave him to it. [He scoffs.] I've spent enough of my life in labs like that one. [Too long. He stabs some of the stir fry with his fork, a little bit too violently to be normal.]

... Thanks.

[This time when he shoves it in his mouth, there is no screaming.]

[whatever it meant, the frowning disappears back into his usual all-purpose dourness as he picks up his own plate.]

[asked as casually as one can, with a gravelly tone and next to no inflection.]

[Kanda makes a non-committal noise and continues eating. He doesn't like to talk about it, but if Zhas speaks lineface, which it seems he does, then that is probably a 'yes'.]

[the fact that he didn't disagree, or even ask for more clarification, is pretty telling. he won't ask more, because being the one who usually runs those sorts of lab experiments doesn't exactly give him much right.

so he eats his food instead, which may in itself may be a little alarming--he eats way too fast, snarfing it down like he's expecting someone to take it away if he doesn't.]
