Huntress crew, this is your first mate, Sorey. ...due to certain circumstances, we are currently without a Captain. I'm acting as Captain now to fill the role, but if there are any interested parties, please contact me at your soonest convenience.

In the meantime, if there's anything that requires tending to, please don't hesitate to let me know. Any supplies we're short on, any concerns you may have about the status of the ship...I know we're at full capacity now, so if we start taking on extra passengers again we'll have to double up. And I'm also the ship's engineer, so please bring any technical problems you have to me.

[Sorey can be found both in engineering on the Huntress and at the Interfaith center on the Iskaulit. If your character can sense spiritual power and has run into him before, they may notice him lacking his usual protective/cleansing domain.]

[Maybe he was just never taught how to do chores? There are kids like that. Alisha didn't know how to wash clothes, and had kind of just watched in fascination when Sorey took the washboard and tub outside to scrub his own shirts. She'd rolled up her sleeves and dove right in, and though it's a little odd Sorey supposes people like that must exist.

When Sora arrives Sorey will already have the filters they'll need in a basket against his hip, twirling a screwdriver between his fingers.] Hey, thanks for coming. Do you, um. Do you know how to do this already? [gonna guess know bc it wasn't done]

[He'll walk into the engine room. For the first second, he almost seems cautious- like he's not sure what to expect. And then, as if something's telling him it's fine, he relaxes and approaches]

Hey Sorey.

And...nope! Can't say I know. [Maintenance didn't really get the same augment info dump that engineers did] Do you?

Yeah, because of this. [Sorey taps the augment behind his ear gently.] They don't have to be done too often, but it's really important to do. Do you think I could ask you to help me out with that from here on out?

Engineer augments tell you stuff? That's lucky.

[But hey, sorey is a friend- so he nods]

Sure, Sorey! Just show me what to do, and I'll be happy to help!

[hefts the basket higher onto his hip and heads off, waiting for sora to fall in beside him before making for the first oxygenator] Your augment didn't give you any info?

Just pretty basic stuff. Like don't walk out an airlock, how to work my droids, how to clean out the protein dispenser, how to fix the toilets...

[He shrugs]

But 'sides that, no. It's why I've been saying a Maintenance person isn't really the same as having an Engineer.

Is that so? I didn't know that. [Well, no wonder the poor kid is having trouble. Granted, Sorey doesn't know how to fix toilets or clean out the protein dispenser, but it probably doesn't require a technical encylopedia to get dumped into your head.] Sora, do you want to do maintenance? If you don't want to, I can see if I can shuffle things around. Just because you have that augment doesn't mean you have to.

Huh?

[He rubs the back of his head.]

No, it's alright. I like helping out! I'm not great at it, but I'm figuring it out!

Okay. But- let me know if that changes, all right? [Stops at the first maintenance hatch.] Nobody should have to do something they hate just because it's been handed to them.

[He snorts.] Thanks, but it's fine. Everybody's gotta do their part on a ship.

And maybe I could use some more instructions, but I wanna help where I can. Even if it's not as cool as piloting.

Piloting is cool? [Sets the basket down and pops the hatch, sticking an arm inside to fumble for the unit power switch.]

Well yeah! You get to fly around, in space! That's super cool!

Not that I've done it. I've asked, but I think Obi-wan thinks I'd crash the ship. [Which in 100% fairness, he probably would]

[just automatically going through the motions of changing the filter w/o explaining, sorry buddy] Oh yeah, well, that's normal. [IS IT????] I definitely smacked the shuttles into stuff before I got the hang of it. And, uh, got generous with using autopilot. [he still bangs the shuttles around when he feels like taking a joyride.]

[He was going to comment to what Sorey's saying-

But then he notices how Sorey's just going on fixing the filter without explaining]

Hey! Aren't you gonna explain!?

Huh? -oh! [well it's already done, so] Sorry, automatic. Next one! [picks up basket, heads down the hall] That's weird though, that you didn't get any additional information. I mean, maintenance is pretty important, isn't it? Why would a pilot or an engineer or communications specialist get more help?

[He follows along, a bit perturbed. Dangit Sorey]

I dunno. You'll have to ask Atroma that one. I just know what I got.

[don't worry there's like a dozen of these things]

...what's up? Don't want to talk about it? [Is it a sore spot for him or something?]

No...it's not that. [He rubs his head, trying to think how to explain]

It's just- everything going on. Atroma, Poe's story about galactic empires, the...other stuff going on... [Like you know, your whole debacle] Most of the stuff people talk about goes over my head.

I mean, everything seems so big and important and...I'm just a kid trying to get home.

Mmm... [Yeah, actually, Sorey can kind of get that. And it must be hard for him, listening to all of this and trying to keep his head up.]

Doesn't have to be a galactic war to feel important. Trying to get back home is a big deal too. [He stops at the next vent and puts the basket down, but doesn't open it up.] Do you wanna talk about it?

..Nah, that's alright. [He shakes his head] Talkin' about it just tends to make me more homesick. Rather make friends and help out.

[Speaking of-]

I'm really glad you're back, by the way! I missed having you around!

[Stifling your bad feelings??? Sounds legit.] Thanks, Sora. [Smiles a little and gives him a playful elbow shove.] Bet you missed having toilet paper in the bathrooms, too. That's on order.

[Okay, opening up that vent.] Let me show you with this one, it's pretty easy.

[Conceal, Don't Feel, okay - it's the Disney way ]

Haha, yeah...I meant to replace that! Really!

[JUST GOT DISTRACTED AND FORGOT.

He smiles and kneels down to get a good view] Okay!

[well in his defense, there wasn't a whole lot to replace it WITH since order forms went blank for two weeks]

All you gotta do is pop the latches- [he reaches in] like this, and pull out the filter. They all come in these little plastic cages so you don't have to do anything with these. If it looks dark gray like this, you should swap it out for a fresh blue one. [Sorey passes over the new filter.] Here, try to fit it in and snap the clasps back on.

[Sora will take the filter as he listens to what he says.]

Okay...that seems simple!

[He'll lean over, trying to do just that. He's a bit clumsy with his hands, so it's going to take a moment- but he's definitely seems to be trying]
