Huntress crew, this is your first mate, Sorey. ...due to certain circumstances, we are currently without a Captain. I'm acting as Captain now to fill the role, but if there are any interested parties, please contact me at your soonest convenience.

In the meantime, if there's anything that requires tending to, please don't hesitate to let me know. Any supplies we're short on, any concerns you may have about the status of the ship...I know we're at full capacity now, so if we start taking on extra passengers again we'll have to double up. And I'm also the ship's engineer, so please bring any technical problems you have to me.

[Sorey can be found both in engineering on the Huntress and at the Interfaith center on the Iskaulit. If your character can sense spiritual power and has run into him before, they may notice him lacking his usual protective/cleansing domain.]

[His primary reason for visiting was to check on Opal/Natalie, and he's done that, but he figures he might as well give Nightingale the full report. Better check on the guy who's supposed to be looking after her.

He's never been to the Huntress, so it takes a bit of digging, but eventually he stumbles upon engineering and knocks the entranceway with his knuckles.]

Hey, are you Sorey?

[Glances up from where he's organizing his tools. ...this isn't a new crew member, unless he transferred. Sorey's pretty sure he's either seen or heard this guy on the comms before.] That's me. What can I do for you?

[huaaaaagh]

You're the one looking after Natalie- er, Opal, right? Nightingale asked me to help, so I thought I'd check in.

[Also size the guy up, make sure he's legit.]

Oh? I see. [Sorey checks his hand for grease before leaning forward and offering it to shake.] Natalie's probably in my room, but she's started going out and exploring now that she's not as scared. Would you like me to introduce you?

[Kirito doesn't hesitate to shake his hand. First impressions good so far, at least?]

Ah... actually, I already met with her. I brought her some books from the Iskaulit library, so if you find them later and are wondering where they came from, well.

There should be some potted water in the kitchens; it's been specially purified, so it's better quality than what we've got on the ship. I know it says 'do not touch,' but feel free to use it all up. It should make anything you use it in taste a bit better. [Loses that metallic, filtered tang.]

I-I'm okay, really. What happened was-was complicated. [yeah not explaining to frightened new friend about how he turned into a monster due to his own emotional negligence.]

More importantly, are you doing okay? I'm so sorry nobody properly greeted you to the ship.

[She won't ask. The tone of his voice in his initial message hadn't really encouraged it. But now she can fret at him instead of just about.]

I'm fine, I just sort of let myself in... sorry! But, um- do you need any help with your ship? I only know maintenance, but I work hard and I can learn more if I have to!

[ Ahsoka had filled him in on what happened and after looking at the villages and the reports, the story had some blanks filled - though barely enough. It's not his place to ask though, though Obi-Wan would prefer it.

So when Sorey returns to the ship, Obi-Wan seeks him out at Engineering. The noticeable lack of aura was the first thing he noticed. ]

[Whether or not he intends to, Obi-Wan always gave off that feeling of commanding respect for Sorey. Like a stranger with the same vibe as his Gramps, though without the familiarity. And probably not as much lightning.

So when Obi-Wan comes into Engineering, Sorey straightens up like an errant child facimg his father.] Obi-Wan, hello. Are...are you here about the Captain position?

[Maybe he was just never taught how to do chores? There are kids like that. Alisha didn't know how to wash clothes, and had kind of just watched in fascination when Sorey took the washboard and tub outside to scrub his own shirts. She'd rolled up her sleeves and dove right in, and though it's a little odd Sorey supposes people like that must exist.

When Sora arrives Sorey will already have the filters they'll need in a basket against his hip, twirling a screwdriver between his fingers.] Hey, thanks for coming. Do you, um. Do you know how to do this already? [gonna guess know bc it wasn't done]

[Shirley's been scarce on the ship lately, due to business more than anything. But just as importantly, she figures Sorey (and maybe the rest of the crew) needs some space right now; she sure had after the events that nearly led her to a second Cataclysm. Thing is, now that she's on the other side she doesn't know just how much space is enough and how much is too much. But she has to test the waters somehow, right?

After some deliberation, she finds him in engineering again.]

Sorey? I...heard what happened.

[Ah. Shirley. Sorey should probably have expected her to come find him eventually.

He doesn't bother trying to conceal the shame on his face as he looks up at her from where he's cleaning his tools.] Yeah...it's. It's a mess.

[He clears some space nearby for her to sit down.] I imagine there're probably a few things you'd like to say to me.

[A few things to say? With the look on his face, that sounds rather ominous.]

Do you think I'm angry? I'm not, you know.

[She sits down and tries to make a point of sitting close to him. It seems like he could really use the support right now.]

Dezel told me a little about what happened to you and Mikleo, before he went to find you two. But I don't know many of the details. Can you tell me more?

[The last thing he wants to do is relive any of that, but if there's anybody here who deserves an explanation more than the people directly involved, it's Shirley. She'd gone out of her way to open herself up to him and warn him off of everything he ended up doing anyway.

After a moment of hesitation Sorey nods, and pulls in legs to cross them, hands clasped in his lap so he can wring out his nervousness whenever necessary. Like right now.]

Essentially...well, I-I became what's called a hellion. In my world, when negative feelings and conflicting ideals build up inside a human being, they can, um, start to generate what's called malevolence. Left unchecked, that malevolence can take them over and transform them into a monster.

I left when I realized what was going to happen, so that my friends wouldn't get caught up in it. But I think- I think I was probably trying to protect myself more than anything.
