Huntress crew, this is your first mate, Sorey. ...due to certain circumstances, we are currently without a Captain. I'm acting as Captain now to fill the role, but if there are any interested parties, please contact me at your soonest convenience.

In the meantime, if there's anything that requires tending to, please don't hesitate to let me know. Any supplies we're short on, any concerns you may have about the status of the ship...I know we're at full capacity now, so if we start taking on extra passengers again we'll have to double up. And I'm also the ship's engineer, so please bring any technical problems you have to me.

[Sorey can be found both in engineering on the Huntress and at the Interfaith center on the Iskaulit. If your character can sense spiritual power and has run into him before, they may notice him lacking his usual protective/cleansing domain.]

[Glances up from where he's organizing his tools. ...this isn't a new crew member, unless he transferred. Sorey's pretty sure he's either seen or heard this guy on the comms before.] That's me. What can I do for you?

You're the one looking after Natalie- er, Opal, right? Nightingale asked me to help, so I thought I'd check in.

[Also size the guy up, make sure he's legit.]

Oh? I see. [Sorey checks his hand for grease before leaning forward and offering it to shake.] Natalie's probably in my room, but she's started going out and exploring now that she's not as scared. Would you like me to introduce you?

[Kirito doesn't hesitate to shake his hand. First impressions good so far, at least?]

Ah... actually, I already met with her. I brought her some books from the Iskaulit library, so if you find them later and are wondering where they came from, well.

Oh...yeah that was probably a good idea. She seemed pretty bored with the choice of books I have in my room. [Too meek to say it aloud though.]

Thanks for that. Have you looked after kids before or something?

Yeah, I used to look after my sister a lot, and I have a daughter back home, so I'm used to it.

[He does not look old enough to have a daughter but okay.]

Yeah, I guess that would be something you'd need practice with. [Rubs the back of his neck. He has a kid? This guy looks even younger than him, but Sorey's not getting any spiritual vibes off of him.] I'm sorry you have to be away from your daughter. You must miss her terribly.

[Haaaah. Sorey gets a slightly bittersweet smile for that one, accompanied by a shrug.]

Well, sure, but everyone's in the same boat. You've got people you miss from home too, right?

[It's not really even a question- around here it's kind of a given.]

Some friends. [Leans against a toolbox and laces his fingers together.] My Gramps, but I'd left home before I came here. I was going to miss him no matter what.

Aren't you worried about your daughter, though? Being without you? [Natalie's without her dad and all and honestly Sorey can't quite comprehend it, but if he had a kid and he didn't know where she was he'd probably freak out.]

I'd be a lousy dad if I wasn't worried. But she has her mama with her, and if I just sat around worrying about her I'd never get anything done. Better to focus on doing what I can and hopefully make it back as soon as possible.

[It's probably easier for him than most people- his daughter is a pretty self-sufficient AI, not a flesh and blood infant who needs daily care. Doesn't mean he loves or misses her any less, but it's safe to assume she's doing okay without him.]

I see. [Sorey's still getting the hang of turning off the worrying on his own, is all.] Well, Natalie's doing all right, but it's true I don't know quite what I'm doing. She's really sweet though, very helpful. Total one-eighty from her future self, but lots of things happen when you have to grow up, I guess.

Yeah, no kidding. She and I don't really get along at all when she's older, so I'm kind of getting in my good vibes while I can.

Ah ha- [covers mouth] Ah...yeah, Opal can be a little prickly. She's good, though. Sometimes prickly people just care too much and don't know how to show it. [not sure that's the case with opal, though]

Yeah, I know how that goes. I'm usually bad with that, though, so we end up aggravating each other... if Nightingale wasn't a mutual friend I'd probably leave her alone.

Does Nightingale really want you two to get along? She doesn't seem like the type to try and force other people's relationships.

No, no, nothing like that! More of a... personal preference? She's Nightingale's girlfriend, which makes her important to Nightingale. I don't think it's a big deal to try and at least be civil to one another.

[Even if it's hard and they clash and things get awkward. Look, no one said he did anything but fail at social interaction.]

[Ah yeah, meet the guy who was told, professionally speaking, that he shouldn't fight with people even in an off-and-on basis. ...who likewise tends to get along with almost everybody he meets.]

I can understand that. I think it's kind of you to try and get along for her sake. [Though he also thinks it's probably not a good idea to force a friendly relationship with someone even for the sake of someone else. That sort of thing doesn't seem to go well. Of course, he's not going to be saying that, not without feeling like a huge hypocrite.]

I don't know if it's that kind. It's also a little bit of self-interest, too.

[To decrease the social awkwardness if they all happen to be in a room together? Hell yeah he'll put in the effort for that.]

If it ends up being a lost cause, no one can say I didn't try. It's not like we've spent that much time together yet.

Might help if you spend time with her as she is now. Though, were you looking to take her with you? [Sorey's not going to fight about it, but he'll be sad to see her go. Having Natalie around...well, she's helped keep him distracted at the least, helped him remember good times at the best. Plus, they're familiar with each other at this point. She probably wouldn't want to leave.]

No, no. She'd find the people on my ship to be just as unfamiliar as the ones here, and it looks like she's settled in well enough. If you're okay with her staying here, might as well leave her be.

[He doesn't know what "things" he needs distraction from, but he's sure as hell not going to ask. He knows that tone.]
