[The first clue Vash had was waking up and finding out he had been made Captain. That seemed odd. He hadn't been captain for more than a couple days before Ino put in the request when this cycle first began. It was confirmed when he checked Ino's room and she was not just in deep sleep but gone completely.
He finds the letter left for him and smiles. He really isn't sure what happens when people leave. Most seem to think they go home. He likes that idea and hopes it's true. Alright, his first responsibility as captain. Let people know.
Being captain sucks.
He'll find the crew of the Three Twins personally and speak to them one on one if they haven't already found out themselves. Then he should next tell... oh man. This was not going to be easy.]
Private to Hiro
Hiro. Are you there? It's Vash. I need to speak to you.
[Because he at least deserves to be told in person one on one. In fact everyone who who had a gift left behind will get a private message from Vash.]
Private to those getting gifts
Hello, this is Vash of the SS Three Twins. I need to speak with you please. [If Vash knows you it will likely be a little less formal.]
Open to all
[Vash wishes he knew all of Ino's friends. So he could let them all know one on one. With no one else he could think of and the ones with gifts having been notified Vash let's everyone else know.]
Hello Fleet. I'm sorry to say that Ino has been returned home. [It's nicer to say than vanished. True or not.] So I have been made captain of the SS Three Twins. She was a great Captain and I know she will be missed. I'm sorry everyone.

[Finally he doesn't have to make his own mushy paste-like dinner!]
And I'm certain Anders might appreciate the help. [He's not sure what a degree means in this context, but he can make a pretty good guess--it's something like a maester's chain, something that marks one as a maester. Or a doctor, or healer.]
Aye, they do that sometimes--they made me the engineer. [You can tell just how well he thinks of this decision, which is: not at all. Anyway, at the introduction, Jon straightens up somewhat.] I'm Jon Snow. Welcome to the Three Twins, Ravi.

Jon Snow! Good to meet you, mate!
[He holds out his hand enthusiastically, and will probably proceed to engage in a far too vigorous handshake, if it's accepted.]
So yeah, about this whole cooking thing, it's never exactly been my strong point. I'm not making any promises about producing something edible for at least the first three weeks.

I'd imagine it'd be hard to make anything edible out of these. [And he picks up a half-eaten solid stick of funny-colored tofu.] They--don't taste much better than turnips.
[It's a little in-joke that he has with literally his own damn self, shush.]
But I'll consider myself warned and keep making my own food for the next three weeks or so, then. Or until we stop at another planet for a time.

[The thought of exploring a planet has now overtaken his excitement about being crewmates with Jon Snow. Sorry, Jon.]

Aye, we do. In the time I've been here we've stopped at--four so far. [A breath.] They're all very different from each other, as far as I know, but all of the places I've seen so far were populated. And no, so far we've been fortunate enough that the air was breathable for most of the planets I've seen. [He pauses, then sighs.] Save for one moon, where you'd get sick if you spent more than a few minutes on it without a mask.
[He can't believe he's about to ask this, but well, best to get this out of the way now:] Have you any more to ask?

... nah, nothing that can't wait, unless there's something you think I should know. Sounds like it's always a bit of an adventure around here anyway!
